人蔘이 산소유리기로 손상된 척수신경세포의 손상에 미치는 영향

산소자유기는 중풍인 뇌졸중을 비롯하여 뇌허혈, 파킨슨씨병과 같은 뇌질환의 병리적 요인으로 밝혀짐에 따라 이의 독성효과나 작용현상에 대한 기전을 규명하기 위하여 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 그러나 산소자유기의 독성효과에 대하여 아직까지 이에 대한 자세한 기전이 밝혀져 있지 않고 치료방법 역시 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구는 산소자유기의 신경독성 효과에 대한 기전을 규명하기 위하여 배양소의 희소돌기아교세포에 여러 농도의 산소자유기를 처리한 다음 산소자유기의 독성효과를 측정하였으며 또한 산소자유기의 독성효과에 대한 인삼추출물의 영향을 MTT assay법으로 조사하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. xanthine oxidase(XO)와 hypoxanthine(HX)은 처리한 농도에 비례하여 배양 신경세포의 생존율을 현저하게 감소시켰으며, 인삼추출물을 배양 희소돌기아교세포에 전처리한 결과 XO/HX의 독성효과를 유의성있게 방어하였다. 이상의 결과로부터 산소자유기는 배양 소의 희소돌기아교세포에 독성을 나타냈으며 인삼추출물이 산소자유기의 독성을 방어하는데 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. To elucidate the neurotoxic mechanism of oxygen radicals in cultured bovine oligodendrocytes, cytotoxic effect was measured by MTT assay after cultured oligodendrocytes were grown in the medium containing various concentrations of oxygen radicals. In addition, neuroprotective effect of herb extract, Korean red Ginseng was examined by MTT assay in cultured oligodendrocytes. Cell viability of cultured oligodendrocytes was remarkably decreased by xanthine oxidase(XO) and hypoxanthine(HX) in dose-dependent manner, and Korean red Ginseng protected remarkably oxidant-induced neurotoxicity in these cultures. From the above results, it is suggested that oxygen radicals is toxic in cultured bovine oligodendrocytes, and herb extracts such as Korean red Ginseng are effective in blocking the neurotoxicity induced by oxygen radicals in cultured bovine oligodendrocytes.
Investigation of Phase Singularity Problem in Microwave Breast Tomography

This paper investigates the phase singularity problem in microwave image reconstruction utilizing unwrapped phase data. The measured phases of the electric fields in most microwave measurement systems are wrapped. Thus, a certain phase unwrapping process is necessary for reconstruction of the image of a high contrast object. This unwrapping, however, is difficult in the presence of scattering nulls on/near the unwrapping path. At the null point, the phase value will be rendered, resulting in a poor image reconstruction. In this paper, we investigate the phase singularity arising from electromagnetic scattering nulls in microwave breast tomographic imaging. We then propose a transformation technique for the measured electric fields that avoids phase singularity.

Latex allergy is an important occupational health issue among health care workers. It is well known that significant cross-reactions are present between latex allergens and several fruits, including banana most commonly, followed by avocado, kiwi and chestnut, which is called the latex-fruit syndrome. A 36-year-old female patient visited our hospital with recurrent urticaria and angioedema after eating some fruits. She experienced episodes of anaphylaxis after eating banana or wearing latex gloves when working as a nurse in the delivery room 7 years ago. Allergy skin prick tests showed positive responses to banana, avocado, kiwi and chestnut extracts, and high serum-specific IgE to latex and banana were noted by the Immuno-CAP system and ELISA. Cross-reactivity between latex and banana was confirmed by the ELISA-inhibition test. Therefore, we report the case of latex-fruit syndrome presented in a patient with latex anaphylaxis. Background : Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is considered to be less common in the Orient compared to the West, but epidemiological data on GERD in Korea are rare. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux in routine check-up subjects. Methods : We analyzed 2243 subjects (male 716, female 1527; age range 20-69 yr) visited health promotion center for routine check-up. Subjects were given a validated self-reported questionnaire, which measured the presence, duration and severity of typical symptoms (heartburn, acid regurgitation); and the presence of atypical symptoms. At least weekly symptoms of heartburn and/or acid regurgitation were characterized as the definition of GERD. Results : The prevalence of heartburn for at least monthly, at least weekly and at least daily episodes was 6.2%, 3.4% and 3.1%, respectively. The corresponding figures for acid regurgitation were 6.1%, 2.1% and 0.7%. The prevalence of GERD was 8.5%, and was more common in female (p<0.01). Sixty eight percent of subjects with GERD reported the symptoms as having been present for less than 5 years. Seventy four percent of subjects with GERD reported these symptoms to be mild to moderate in severity. Heartburn and acid regurgitation were significantly associated with dyspepsia, chest pain, dysphagia and globus sensation (p<0.01), but not with hoarseness or chronic cough. Conclusion : The prevalence of heartburn and/or acid regurgitation experienced at least weekly is 8.5% in routine check-up subjects. Heartburn and acid regurgitation were associated with epigastric pain, chest pain, dysphagia and globus sensation.(Korean J Med 58:145-151, 2000)

본 연구는 전통구조물의 안정에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하였다. 우리나라 전통조경공간에서 축석 기둥으로 조성된 담장의기초가 안정함에 따라 오랜 세월동안 무너지지 않고 유지됨을 알 수 있었다. 연구 대상지인 담양 소쇄원의 오곡문 담장(溪墻)은 자연과 조화되는 하나의 전통구조물로 그 어떠한 영향에도 변형됨이 없이 지금까지 유지되어 왔다. 여기에는 우리 선조들의 슬기와 지혜가 곁들어 있음을 짐작할 수 있다. 그러나 전통구조물 재현에 있어 하자발생 빈도가 빈번하다. 이는 전통구조물에서 벗어난 공법으로 약식 적용하였기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구의 대상인 오곡문 담장이 무너지지 않는 요인을 통해 그 해결 방안을 간접적으로 얻고자 함이다. 아울러연구 방법으로는 물리적 시험과 역학 계산방식의 유추·해석을 통해 다음의 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 내적 요인으로 오곡문 담장의 구조를 이루는 부재와 결속 방식이다.1) 기초 지반의 안정이다. 여기서 원지반인 모암의 역할이 크다는 사실과 침하 현상이 없다는 것이다. 2) 수문에 의한 마찰력을 최소화하기 위해 물길을 두 갈래로 분리한 축석형태와 메쌓기 공법을 통한 수문에서의 지내력과범람을 대비하여 우회수로를 만들었다. 3) 하중에 의한 지지력과 내구성에 견디는 구조로 재료의 강도와 축조형태에 있어 각 개체 간의 힘의 분산을 가져오는 마찰력을 최대화하는 공법으로 적용되었다. 둘째, 외적 요인으로 오곡문 담장(溪墻)의 역학 수리 계산식을 통해서 얻은 결과, 비바람과 수문에 의한 영향이 크게 나타나지만, 담장의 구조적 안정에 해칠 만한 힘의 작용이 미흡하다는 결론이다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과, 내·외적 영향에도잘 견디는 구조로 구성된 구조체로 볼 수 있다. 그러나 향후 사후관리 측면과 이상기후로 인한 환경 인자에 의해 무너질수도 있다는 사실이다.
