Background: Korean ginseng is an ethnopharmacologically valuable herbal plant with various biologicalproperties including anticancer, antiatherosclerosis, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory activities. Sincethere is currently no drug or therapeutic remedy derived from Korean ginseng, we developed a ginsenoside-enriched fraction (AP-SF) for prevention of various inflammatory symptoms. Methods: The anti-inflammatory efficacy of AP-SF was tested under in vitro inflammatory conditionsincluding nitric oxide (NO) production and inflammatory gene expression. The molecular events of inflammatoryresponses were explored by immunoblot analysis. Results: AP-SF led to a significant suppression of NO production compared with a conventional Koreanginseng saponin fraction, induced by both lipopolysaccharide and zymosan A. Interestingly, AP-SFstrongly downregulated the mRNA levels of genes for inducible NO synthase, tumor necrosis factor-a,and cyclooxygenase) without affecting cell viability. In agreement with these observations, AP-SF blockedthe nuclear translocation of c-Jun at 2 h and also reduced phosphorylation of p38, c-Jun N-terminalkinase, and TAK-1, all of which are important for c-Jun translocation. Conclusion: Our results suggest that AP-SF inhibits activation of c-Jun-dependent inflammatory events. Thus, AP-SF may be useful as a novel anti-inflammatory remedy.

Seong, Nak Jong,Chung, Jin Wook,Kim, Hyo-Cheol,Park, Jae Hyung,Jae, Hwan Jun,An, Sang Bu,Cho, Baik Hwan The Korean Society of Radiology 2012 KOREAN JOURNAL OF RADIOLOGY Vol.13 No.1
<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To evaluate the pattern of right gastric venous drainage by use of digital subtraction angiography.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>A series of 100 consecutive patients who underwent right gastric arteriography during transcatheter arterial chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma were included in this study. Angiographic findings were retrospectively analyzed with respect to the presence or absence of the right and aberrant gastric veins, multiplicity of draining veins, aberrant right gastric venous drainage sites, and the termination pattern of aberrant right gastric veins (ARGVs). We also compared the relative size of the right and left gastric veins.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>A total of 49 patients collectively had 66 ARGVs. The common drainage sites for the ARGVs included the hepatic segment IV (n = 35) and segment I (n = 15). The termination pattern of ARGV could be classified into 4 different types. The most common type was termination as a superficial parenchymal blush formation in small areas without demonstrable portal branches. A statistically significant difference was found for the dominancy of the right gastric vein in gastric venous drainage between the two groups with or without ARGV (<I>p</I> < 0.05, Fisher's exact test). In the group of patients without ARGV (n = 51), the right gastric vein was equal to (n = 9) or larger than (n = 17) the left gastric vein in 26 patients (26 of 51, 51%).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>The incidence of ARGV is higher than expected with four distinct types in its termination pattern. The right gastric vein may play a dominant role in gastric venous drainage.</P>

Objective: This clinical study investigated the effect of Yeosindan on dystocia caused by abnormal expulsive forces. Methods: Yeosindan was applied on the umbilicus of a primipara who had gone through latent phase for 15hrs and was almost expected to undergo C-sec by dystocia. It was sealed with an plaster. Yeosindan was removed immediately after the delivery. Results: 1. 90 minutes after Yeosindan had been applied on the umbilicus of the primipara, the active phase dilatation of uterus was started normally. 2. After 190 minutes from the Yeosindan application, the 2nd stage of labor was finished. 3. In this case, the delivery time, of which average is 344 minutes from the active phase to the second stage of labor, was reduced by 244 minutes. 4. So far, no abnormal condition has been detected in both the neonates and the primiparas.

<P>The feasibility of InSbTe (IST) chalcogenide new materials by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) was demonstrated for PRAM applications. IST-MOCVD at a low temperature of 250 °C resulted in a favorable conformal deposition in the trench structure with a high aspect ratio. The IST films grown at 250 °C showed the highest resistance of approximately 108 Ω/sq, suggesting the amorphous phase of IST and the films grown at 300 °C include various crystalline phases of IST, In–Sb, and In–Te. MOCVD-IST films exhibited a step-coverage of about 95% in the trench structure with a 5 : 1 aspect ratio (a height of 500 nm and a diameter of 100 nm) and also showed reliable filling of the trench under appropriate deposition conditions. Phase switching between amorphous and crystalline states in the IST films grown on a trench structure at a high-aspect ratio (3.5 : 1) was demonstrated showing functional characteristics for applications in memory devices. The IST-based chalcogenide films used included various crystallized phases of In–Sb–Te, In–Sb and In–Te, which proved to be favorable for multilevel data storage.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>The IST films, with completely filled trench structures at 250 °C by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition, showed a good switching behavior and the steps exhibiting the abrupt resistance changes at two different voltages indicate a possibility of the multi-level data storage in IST-PRAM devices. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b922398c'> </P>

Acute focal bacterial nephritis(AFBN; Acute lobar nephronia) represents a acute, localized, non necrotizing suppurative inflammation of an entire lobule of kidney analogue to segmental involvement of the lung in lobar pneumonia. Renal Abscess, renalcyst and renal cell cancer, which also may appear as a mass, is distinguished radiologically from AFBN by abdominal ultrasonogram, abdominal CT scan, kidney MRI and renal scan. We have experienced a case of a 50-years-old male with acute focal bacterial nephritis by Salmonella typhi with ureteral stone. The patient was treated with chloramphenicol for 3 weeks and discharged, After 5 weeks later, the sonographic examination revealed reduced size of mass at affected kidney. We report this case with review of literatures.
