This study was on the removal of phosphorus compounds in domestic and synthetic wastewater using iron-anode electrolytic reactor. The experiments were performed at different current, reaction time and flow rate. The results are as follows ; 1. For the synthetic wastewater with the flow rate of 1.5 ℓ/min and 0.75 ℓ /min, the removal efficiencies were 97% and 98%, respectively. The order conditions of this continuous experiments are current density 2.54 A/dm² and reaction time 20 minutes. 2. The optimal conditions of the batch experiment for synthetic wastewater were current density 0.95 A/dm² and reaction time 3.0 minutes with no addition of electrolyte. With electrolyte, the optimal conditions were current density 2.54 A/dm² and reaction time 1.0 minutes. For the both experiments, the removal efficiencies were far over 97%.

Objective : This is to report the effectiveness of intraoral distraction osteogenesis for alveolar augmentation in the extremely atrophied alveolar defects and to review the clinical results of the 2 cases. Subjects and Methods : Anterior segmental osteotomy was performed and the trans-oral alveolar distractors(Martin, Germany) were applied in 2 patients with the severe acquired anterior maxillary and mandibular defect. After latent period for 1 week, the osteomized alveolar segments were distracted by 1 ㎜ a day (0.5 ㎜/l turn) for 8 days in case Ⅰ and 0.6 ㎜ a day(0.3 ㎜/l turn) for 10 days in case Ⅱ. The consolidation period was about 8 weeks in each case. Thereafter, 6 titanium threaded implants(Branemark, Restore) were simultaneously installed with removal of distractor. The implants were tested clinically and radiographically. Results : Amounts of acquired alveolar bone were 8 ㎜ in case Ⅰ and 6 ㎜ in case Ⅱ respectively, with the increased width of the ridge crests and soft tissue expansion. Dental implants installated on the augmented alveolar ridges in 8 weeks after distrction were confirmed as in good osseointegration and in good function without any complications. Conclusion : Intraoral distraction osteogenesis can be a good option for alveolar ridge augmentation of the severely atrophied ridges and soft-tissue defects. However, for the better vector control of distracting segments and for anterior esthetics, customized distraction devices could be considered later.

Kaempferia parviflora (Krachaidam, Zingiberaceae) is used as a traditional Thai medicine for treating various ailments, including allergy, fatigue, sexual dysfunction, and ulcer. Moreover, it is also used to promote longevity and as a nerve tonic. The aim of this study was to develop functional yoghurt containing Kaempferia parviflora and to examine the physicochemical characteristics of yoghurt supplemented with different concentration of K. parviflora. To this end, we examined the pH and sensory evaluation of yoghurt containing K. parviflora. The pH of this yoghurt decreased whereas the TA increased with incubation time (up to 5 h) without altering the amounts of K. parviflora added. In the sensory evaluation, the taste, flavor, color, and overall acceptability decreased in proportion to the amount of K. parviflora added. Among the experimental group, high scores were achieved by yoghurt containing 1% K. parviflora compared with that by the control group. We conclude there is an urgent need for additional research on the production of this multi-functional yogurt (with properties including anti-obesity and anti-inflammatory), using an optimum concentration of K. Parviflora.

<P>Stable water supply to end users is the most important element in water supply systems (WSSs). The portion of energy used by the water distribution system is up to 40% of the total energy consumed by WSSs. To save energy cost for pumping systems, a number of attempts have been made. Especially, an optimization scheme for scheduling the water-pumping operation has attracted the interest of water engineers. In this paper, a binary integer program was applied to optimize pumping schedule of a WSS in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka based on the hourly water demands for the next day. The water demands were forecasted by a combined model consisting of an autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model and an error compensation routine based on exponential smoothing technique. The result showed that the optimization system could reduce the operation cost of the WSS by minimizing electricity for water pumping; electricity cost for pump operation could be reduced by 55%.</P>
