<P>Muscle glycogen Phosphorylase (PYGM) has been shown to catalyze the degradation of glycogen to glucose-1-phosphate. The PYGM gene can contribute to providing energy to the body by disassembling the glycogen in muscle. Here, we analyzed the genomic structure and expression of the PYGM gene in the thoroughbred horse. The PYGM gene, containing several transposable elements (MIRs, LINEs, and MERs), was highly conserved in mammalian genomes. In order to understand the expression of the horse PYGM gene, we performed quantitative RT-PCR using 11 thoroughbred horse tissue samples. The horse PYGM gene was broadly expressed in all tissues tested. In particular, the highest expression of the horse PYGM gene was observed in skeletal muscle tissue relative to the other tissues. Interestingly, the horse PYGM gene contains fewer mobile elements than its human ortholog, resulting in an increase in the structural stability of the PYGM gene sequence. This study provides insights into the genomic structure of the horse PYGM gene that may be useful in future studies of its association with exercise capability.</P>

The survey area is located in Hyeonseo-myeon and Andeok-myeon of Cheongsong-gun, Korea around the Yeongcheon Dam Water Tunnel. The geology of the survey areas is based on the sedimentary rocks of the Cretaceous period, the Yucheon Group(volcanic rocks), and the Bulguksa Intrusive Rocks, which are covered by the Alluvium. Geological discontinuities distributed in the survey areas include fault, joint, and bedding plane, and are highly developed in the EW directions. An groundwater level observation survey of a total of 156 wells, including 67 wells under management by Cheongsong-gun, shows that the groundwater level of the wells distributed in the directly affected zone by the water tunnel is relatively lower than that of the indirectly affected zone apart from the water tunnel. These results are estimated to be predominantly affected by the effects of water tunnels acting on geologic discontinuities rather than by terrain conditions, i.e. groundwater flows being leaked to the water tunnels through direct or indirect channels. continuous monitoring and further investigation will be required to maintain groundwater facilities and preserve groundwater environments in the future.

Background: The biological and pharmacological effects of BST204, a fermented ginseng extract, havebeen reported in various disease conditions. However, its molecular action in metabolic disease remainspoorly understood. In this study, we identified the antiadipogenic activity of BST204 resulting from itsinhibition of the S6 kinase 1 (S6K1) signaling pathway. Methods: The inhibitory effects of BST204 on S6K1 signaling were investigated by immunoblot, nuclearfractionation, immunoprecipitation analyses. The antiadipogenic effect of BST204 was evaluated bymeasuring mRNA levels of adipogenic genes and by chromatin immunoprecipitation and quantitativereal-time polymerase chain reaction analysis. Results: Treatment with BST204 inhibited activation and nuclear translocation of S6K1, furtherdecreasing the interaction between S6K1 and histone H2B in 10T1/2 mesenchymal stem cells. Subsequently,phosphorylation of H2B at serine 36 (H2BS36p) by S6K1 was reduced by BST204, inducing anincrease in the mRNA expression of Wnt6, Wnt10a, and Wnt10b, which disturbed adipogenic differentiationand promoted myogenic and early osteogenic gene expression. Consistently, BST204 treatmentduring adipogenic commitment suppressed the expression of adipogenic marker genes and lipid dropformation. Conclusion: Our results indicate that BST204 blocks adipogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells through theinhibition of S6K1-mediated histone phosphorylation. This study suggests the potential therapeuticstrategy using BST204 to combat obesity and musculoskeletal diseases.

Backgrounds/Aims: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the capacity to differentiate into hepatocytes, The purpose of this study is to investigate the MSCs’ differentiation process and therapeutic potentials by comparing isolated MSCs with HGF-treated MSCs in rat’s model with thiacetamide (TAA)-induced cirrhosis. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, weighing 100-150 g were used in this study. To induce liver fibrosis, recipient rats were taken with 0.04% thioacetamide (TAA) in the drinking water (400 mg TAA/L) for 8 weeks. The rats underlying liver cirrhosis were divided into 3 groups according to the transplanted materials, compared to normal saline as control (I) and isolated MSCs (II) HGF-treated MSCs. Results: Severe hepatic fibrosis and hepatocyte destruction were detected in the control group. Less hepatic cirrhosis and collagen formation, more hepatocyte regeneration and glycogen storage were detected in isolated MSCs compared to HGF-treated MSCs group, Distribution of red autofluorescence is mainly localized near the sinusoids in isolated MSCs, scattered away the sinusoids in HGF-treated MSCs group. MSCs transdifferentiated into CK-19 postive Oval cells and then to albulmin-producing hepatocytes, HGF treated MSCs differentiated into hepatocyte without the intermediate oval cells phase. HGF treated MSCs became the CK18-positive, MSCs became CD 90-positive. Conclusions: Significant hepatocyte differentiation occurred in not HGF-treated MSCs but isolated MSCs group unexpectedly. These results suggest that the beneficial effect of MSCs on in rat’s model with TAA-induced cirrhosis may occur during early differentiation course of MSCs. Mature hepatocyte itself has a little effect on the accelerated differentiation and functional capacity of hepatic lineage cell-line.
Afatinib-Induced Acute Fatal Pneumonitis in Metastatic Lung Adenocarcinoma

Afatinib is an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that inhibit Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2), and HER4. The common side effects of EGFR TKI are rash, acne, di-arrhea, stomatitis, pruritus, nausea, and loss of appetite. Drug induced pneumonitis is the less common adverse ef-fects of EGFR TKI. Afatinib, 2nd generation EGFR TKI is anticipated to overcome drug resistance from 1st genera-tion EGFR TKI according to preclinical study, and several studies are being conducted to compare clinical efficacy between 1st and 2nd EGFR TKI. Several cases of rug induced acute fatal pneumonitis were reported after use of er-lotinib or gefitinib. However, a case of acute fatal pneumonitis associated with afatinib was note reported except drug induced pneumonitis in other clinical study. Here, we present a cases of acute severe pneumonitis related with afatinib in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma with literature review.

The location of the sigmoid colon varies within the abdominal cavity, but its mesocolon is fixed to the left side. Right side fixation of the sigmoid colon is a very rare congenital positional anomaly. In addition, it has been reported that hepatocolic fistula is also a very rare disease that may present lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Here, the authors describe a case of a 71-year-old man who underwent surgery for hepato-sigmoidocolic fistula complicated by hepatocellular carcinoma and the right side fixation of the sigmoid colon.

The time-zone of pollinating activity according to numbers of Apis mellifera hive released in the strawberry(Maehyang var.) houses was together from 9A.M. to 4P.M., and the peak times of pollinating activity were between 11A.M and 1P.M.. The effects on pollinating activity according to numbers of A .mellifera hive released in the strawberry houses were ordered 5bee combs(11,000heads), 4bee combs(8,800heads) and 3bee combs(6,600heads). The rate of workers lost in A. mellifera hives with 5bee combs and 4bee combs during the strawberry cultivating period were lower than that of 3bee combs. The rates of fruit set by pollinating activity according to numbers of A.mellifera hive released in the strawberry houses were same level with 99%. The fruit qualities; No. of seeds, sugar content and rate of normal fruit set were same level, but fruit weight was ordered 5bee combs in 16.9g, 4bee combs in 16.4g and 3bee combs in 15.6g. The rate of marketable fruit of 4bee combs and 5bee combs were 5% to 9% higher than that of 3bee combs, respectively.
