The objective of this study was to evaluate platelet-rich fibrin (PRF)’s effectiveness in repairing articular disc defect in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of rabbits. Eight rabbits were divided into four groups of two rabbits each, corresponding to groups A, B, C, and D. Both TMJs of all of the rabbits were used in the experiments: the right joints comprised the experimental groups, and the left ones, the control groups. The disc defect was circular and 2 mm in diameter. In the experimental groups, the PRF was compressed into the defect, whereas the control group defects were left untreated. A, B, C, and D groups were sacrificed at the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th weeks, respectively. The defects of each control group exhibited no specific changes. Contrastingly, in each experimental group, there was an increased number of chondroblasts at the margins of the defects, along with accelerated cell differentiation and a columnar cell arrangement observable at the time of cell differentiation. The experimental groups showed inflammatory cell infiltrations and fibrosis by the 1st week, maturation of chondrocytes by the 2nd week, and proliferation by the 4th week, after which the defects began to be filled with chondrocytes, a process that was complete after the 6th week. In the histological evaluation (H-E), the experimental groups showed significant increases of chondroblasts after the 2nd and 4th weeks, as well as regular columns of chondrocyte arrays observable during cell division. After 6 weeks, the defects were filled with chondrocytes.

Background and Objectives : Many students major in applied music singing have various difficulties in phonation when they sing or perform. But the studies about this cause are lack. The purpose of this study is whether singing voice therapy based on vocal music is effective or not to applied music singing students that have difficulties in phonation. Materials and Methods : Singing voice therapy program had been done to 8 students major in applied music singing during 7 weeks. We did laryngeal stroboscope, perceptual, acoustic and aerodynamic examination before and after singing voice therapy to this students. And we studied post examination results have differences or improvements compared to pre examination results. Results : Four male students don't have effective improvement after singing voice therapy but they shows slight improvement in aerodynamic examination values compared to pre examination values. Four female students shows improvement in aerodynamic examination values and pitch range increasing. Above all, one student's vocal nodules disappeared after singing voice therapy. Conclusion : Singing voice therapy based on music singing is very effective to the students major in applied music singing. Above all, their curriculum in applied music singing should include phonation training based on music singing before training perform and technic practices.

<B>Purpose: </B>PET-CT is often used to differentiate benign or malignant thyroid incidentalomas. In this retrospective study, we evaluated whether the <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG uptake pattern and PET-CT findings improved accuracy over the standardized uptake value (SUV). <B>Methods:</B> <SUP>18</SUP>F-FDG PET-CT was performed on 2,178 subjects from August, 2004, to October, 2007, in Sung-ae Hospital. PET-CT was performed on 806 patients (37%) with suspected or known nonthyroidal cancer and 1,372 healthy subjects (63%) without a previous history of cancer. We investigated the clinical characteristics of patients, history, standardized uptake value (SUV), ultrasonography, and hormone levels in blood. Thyroidal cancer was confirmed by ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration and pathology after thyroid operation. <B>Results:</B> The prevalence of focal thyroid lesions on PET-CT was 8.8% (191/2178). Thyroid cancer confirmation was 7.9% (15/191). The maximum SUV of malignant thyroid lesions were significantly higher than that of benign lesions (7.00±3.08 vs. 4.49±1.84, P<0.001). <B>Conclusion:</B> PET-CT image interpretation that includes 18F-FDG uptake and SUV is better than PET-CT alone for differentiating benign and malignant lesions. Clinicopathological features and post-resection outcomes of hepatocellular adenoma

Backgrounds/Aims: Hepatocellular adenomas (HCA) are rare benign liver tumors with the potential of malignant transformation and risk of bleeding. We investigated the clinicopathological features and outcomes of HCA in 19 patients who underwent surgical resection. Methods: This retrospective observational study included 19 patients who underwent hepatic resection during a 9-year period from 2011 to 2019. Results: The incidence of HCA was 0.18% of all hepatic resection cases during the study period. The mean age of the patients was 34.3±9.6 years, and 12 patients (63.2%) were female. Abdominal pain was present as initial clinical manifestation in 5 patients and the other 14 patients had no specific symptoms. HCA was diagnosed in 7 out of 8 patients who underwent liver biopsy. R0 resection was performed in 18 patients (94.7%) and laparoscopic liver resection was performed in 11 patients (57.9%). The mean tumor size was 5.6±3.6 cm and 17 patients had a single tumor. Immunohistochemical analysis of the resected tumor specimens revealed hepatocyte-nuclear-factor-1 mutated HCA in 2 (10.5%), β-catenin-mutated HCA in 2 (10.5%), inflammatory HCA in 12 (63.2%) and unclassified HCA in 3 (15.8%). There were no pathognomonic findings in the preoperative liver imaging studies among these four groups. Currently, all patients are alive with a mean follow-up period of 40.1±26.3 months. One patient showed residual tumors after incomplete resection. Conclusions: Surgical resection may be indicated if imaging studies show diagnostic ambiguity, growing tumor or symptomatic mass. Because of the risk of tumor recurrence and malignant transformation, long-term follow-up is necessary.

For the development of the alternative control system against the major forest pests, Beauveria spp. F-101, isolated from a dead larva of Thecodiplosis japonensis, was selected because this isolate showed high pathogenicities against T. japonensis and Acantholyda parki. Beauveria spp. F-101 had irregular clustered conidio-phores and conidia borne on a distinctive apical zigzag extension, and it showed typical characteristic of the genus, Beauveria in morphology. For molecular based-identification, the ribosomal ITS region of Beauveria spp. F-101 was amplified with ITS1 and ITS4 primers, and cloned into pGEM- T Easy vector. The amplified PCR product was 569 bp in size and completely sequenced. The similarities of the cloned ITS sequence were 99 % and 97% to those of B. bassiana and B. brongniartii, respectively. In comparison to other species among the genus Beauveria, the ITS region of Beauveria spp. F-101 showed a similarity of 95% to B. amorpha, 95% to B. tenella, 89% to B. vermiconia and 69% to B. alba, respectively. In addition, in comparison to different genus, it had 95% similarities to Cordyceps militaris and 91% to Paecilomyces tenuipes. Accordingly, the current result suggests that Beauveria spp. F-101 was a variant of B. bassiana and it seems to be a new isolate considering sequence variation in ITS region.

After having experienced more than 2,000 cases of adult living donor liver transplantation (LDLT), we established the concepts of right liver graft standardization. Right liver graft standardization intends to provide hemodynamics-based and regeneration-compliant reconstruction of vascular inflow and outflow. Right liver graft standardization consists of the following components: Right hepatic vein reconstruction includes a combination of caudal-side deep incision and patch venoplasty of the graft right hepatic vein to remove the acute angle between the graft right hepatic vein and the inferior vena cava; middle hepatic vein reconstruction includes interposition of a uniform-shaped conduit with large-sized homologous or prosthetic grafts; if the inferior right hepatic vein is present, its reconstruction includes funneling and unification venoplasty for multiple short hepatic veins; if donor portal vein anomaly is present, its reconstruction includes conjoined unification venoplasty for two or more portal vein orifices. This video clip that shows the surgical technique from bench to reperfusion was a case presentation of adult LDLT using a modified right liver graft from the patient’s son. Our intention behind proposing the concept of right liver graft standardization is that it can be universally applicable and may guarantee nearly the same outcomes regardless of the surgeon’s experience. We believe that this reconstruction model would be primarily applied to a majority of adult LDLT cases.

The seed coat of the black soybean contains 3 main anthocyanins such as delphinidin-3-O-β-glucoside, cyanidin-3-O-β-glucoside, and petunidin-3-O-β-glucoside. As a part of our effort on discovering and breeding new black soybean cultivars which possesses specific anthocyanin component rich, we determined the anthocyanin profiles of the 2 cultivars recently developed soybean cv. Gaechuck #1 and cv. Gyeongsang #1, using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and compared their content and identity with those of previously known 10 cultivar controls. The Cosmosil-5C₁?-AR-Ⅱ column were selected for the analysis because of the best peak separation. The column temperature was set up at 35℃. The mobile phase consisting of water containing 0.5%(v/v) formic acid and methanol gave good separation between the 3 anthocyanin analytes and internal standard (quercetin 3-O-β-rutinoside) and peaks with suppressed tail. The MS/MS spectra of each individual anthocyanin standard were detected in positive electron spray ionization (ESI) modes. It was disclosed that the anthocyanin contents of the soybean cv. Gaechuck#1 and cv. Gyeongsang#1 are roughly higher than those of the 10 controls.
Body Weight Reducing Effects of Crude Caseinomacropeptide Prepared from Na-caseinate

Caseinomacropeptide (CMP) from casein has been reported to have several physiological functions. The crude CMP produced from Na-caseinate using a commercial renneting enzyme was used in this study. The renneting enzyme hydrolyzed most of Na-caseinate to release crude CMP within 1 h. The crude CMP prepared from Nacaseinate by renneting enzyme and ultrafiltration was relatively pure according to SDS-gel electrophoresis and amino acid composition, and existed as a dimmer. The administration of crude CMP with a high fat diet in the high fat+CMP group reduced food efficiency ratio to the level of the control group. This result indicates that the crude CMP may be involved in inhibitory actions over digestive functions. Food intake and body weight gain in the high fat+CMP group were reduced compared to the high fat group by 10.9 and 21.5%, respectively, indicating that the crude CMP may lower an efficacy of digestive functions in gastrointestinal cells as well as suppress satiety by controlling a secretion of digestive hormones.
