Will psychological empowerment and role satisfaction influence motivation? Evidence from public sector organizations in India

        Ruby Sengar Malhotra,P. S. Vohra,Santosh Rangnekar 강원대학교 경영연구소 2014 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.5 No.2

This paper aims to propose a conceptual model that empirically examines the relationship of psychological empowerment & role satisfaction and their dimensions with motivation in an Indian context. 176 executives/managers from many public sector organizations in India were approached. Cronbach alpha, correlation and regression analyses were applied to check the research hypotheses. Only meaning was found to be important predictor of motivation. Interestingly, achievement and extension were also observed to be the determinants of motivation. This paper would help researchers and practitioners to work on these variables in some other sectors also. Improvement in the psychological empowerment and role satisfaction will enhance the motivation among Indian business executives/managers which will improve the overall performance of the organization. It is an innovative attempt to utilize psychological empowerment and role satisfaction independently to improve motivation in an Indian framework.

      • 유방병변의 태반성 물질의 표현에 대한 면역세포화학적 연구

        루비,최종상,이대일 고려대학교 의과대학 1989 고려대 의대 잡지 Vol.26 No.1

The ability of neoplasms to elaborate and release a variety of biologic products into the circulation has been the subject of intense investigation over last two decades. In estimating prognosis of breast carcinomas, there is no confidential tumor markers used, except the estrogen receptors which indicate a likelihood of a response to endocrine therapy. At present, established prognostic factors are tumor stage and histological grading. And an immunocytochemical study was carried out to examine the expression and the prognostic significance of human chorionic somatomammotropin(HCS), pregnancy specific beta-1-glycoporote-in(SP-1), and beta-human chorionic gonadotropin(β-HCG) in a series of 56 breast lesions Avidin-biotin complex was used to trypsin treated and nontreated tissue sections The results obtained are as followings; 1. HCS positive reaction was seen in the epithelium of lobules and ducts in trypsin treated normal breast tissue. 2. HCS and SP-1 showed positive reaction on the epithelium of the fibrocystic disease in trypsin-treated tissue, and HCS showed positive reactions on the epithelium of the fibroade-nomas in both trypsin-treated and -nontreated tissues In trypsin treated tissues, SP-1 showed positive reaction on the fibroadenoma and HCS showed positive reactions on the intraductal papilloma. 3. Of breast carcinomas, HCS and SP-1 showed positive reactions in 65.7% and 37.1%, respectively in trypsin treated tissues 4. Beta-HCG showed Bo reactions on the all tissues regardless of trypsin treatment. 5. Trypsin treatment on the breast tissue showed increased rate of positive reactions with HCS and SP-1.

Proline nitrate ionic liquid as high temperature acid corrosion inhibitor for mild steel: Experimental and molecular-level insights

Ruby Aslam,Mohammad Mobin,Huda,Mohd Shoeb,Manilal Murmu,Priyabrata Banerjee 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.100 No.-

The synthesis of novel L-proline nitrate ionic liquid referred to as [Pro][NO3] (IL), was performed and the1H, 13C NMR, and FT-IR spectroscopic techniques were used to elucidate the chemical structure. Theinhibition properties of the [Pro][NO3] IL were evaluated for mild steel (MS) corrosion in 1 M HCl usinggravimetric measurement, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization(PDP) measurement, FT-IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), contact anglemeasurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), density functional theory (DFT) and Monte Carlo(MC) simulation studies. As indicated by electrochemical and weight loss techniques the tested [Pro][NO3] IL was established as an excellent mixed type high-temperature acid corrosion inhibitor for MS; theoptimal temperature and concentration being 70 C and 300 ppm, respectively. Furthermore, the contactangle measurement and surface studies revealed water-repelling property and the protecting capability, respectively of the investigated inhibitor. The electronic property of [Pro][NO3] IL has been exploredusing density functional theory (DFT) and the sites susceptible for electron sharing were identifiedthrough Fukui indices analysis. Furthermore, molecular dynamics simulation based on the Monte Carlomethod has been employed to envisage the spontaneous adsorption of [Pro][NO3] IL on MS surface.

Defamilization/familization measures and women’s pension income—The case of Taiwan

        Ruby C. M. Chau,Liam Foster,Sam W. K. Yu,Yuk Pun Yu 한국사회복지학회 2017 Asian Social Work and Policy Review Vol.11 No.2

This paper examines how defamilization and familization measures can affect women’s capacity to accumulate pension income and their subsequent standard of living after retirement. Firstly, it highlights the concepts of defamilization and familization and discusses the potential of these measures in assisting women to save pension income through the “commodification” and “decommodification” of labor. Secondly, it examines the major pension policies and examples of defamilization and familization measures in Taiwan. It shows how the current limited provision of such measures could create “double jeopardy” for women, affecting access to paid employment or resources to enable women who wish to undertake caring responsibilities to do so, ultimately impacting their capacity to accumulate pension income. Thirdly, it suggests ways to strengthen defamilization and familization measures in order to enable women to accumulate sufficient retirement income on the basis of three preconditions: policy attention to the reciprocal relationship between familization/defamilization measures and pension schemes for women; a recognition of differences between women in their preferred strategies to accumulate pension income; and an emphasis on a life course perspective to understand the double jeopardies faced by women in saving for retirement.

      • IN-GROUP CITIZENS OF THE WORLD? ETHNOCENTRISM AND PROSOCIAL FOREIGN ACTIVITIES

        Ruby Appiah-Campbell,Kemefasu Ifie,John Cadogan,Nina Michaelidou 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2020 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2020 No.11

Across several disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences, recent work on reciprocity in social exchange raises questions about exploitativeness, sustainability and environmental concerns (Weiss, 1987; Ursell, 2000; Smit, 2011; Lewis et al., 2015; Grinstein and Riefler, 2015) with calls to research to explore the importance of consumers’ prosocial activities in relation to concepts such as ethnocentrism (Ratner and Miller, 2001; Olivola and Shafir, 2013; Small and Cryder, 2016). Clearly, while the focus of ethnocentrism is on the consumer’s own group, the focus of many calls for prosocial activities is on the “other”. Hence, a question of interest arises from this: how do these competing forces coexist? In other words, since ethnocentrism is a complex multidimensional construct, how do the different dimensions of ethnocentrism relate to prosocial consumer behaviors? Furthermore, since prosocial behaviors are considered necessary, another question of interest is; how can consumers be urged to engage in prosocial behaviors?

Improved and reliable plant regeneration and Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation in soybean (Glycine max L.)

Tiwari Ruby,Singh Ajay K.,Rajam Manchikatla V. 한국작물학회 2023 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.26 No.3

An efcient plant regeneration and transformation system is a prerequisite for soybean crop improvement. To establish such a regeneration system for soybean genotype JS 335, the combination of plant hormones benzyladenine purine (BAP), indole3-butyric acid (IBA) and kinetin (Kn) at a concentration of 3.0 mg L−1, 0.2 mg L−1 and 0.5 mg L−1, respectively, produced the best results using the whole cotyledonary nodes as explants. Furthermore, there is a necessity to improve the efciency of transformation for gene function studies and to develop soybean transgenics with new traits. There have been decades of research in the feld, nonetheless, due to the recalcitrant nature of soybean, the transformation efciency continues to remain low. This study used the Agrobacterium-mediated cotyledonary node transformation system and the bar gene as the plant selectable marker coupled with glufosinate as a selective agent. Explants were cultured on Gamborg’s B5 medium supplemented with 1.67 mg L−1 BAP and glufosinate at 3 mg L−1 for the selection of transformants. The transformation status of the primary transformants (T0) and T1 generation progeny was confrmed by various molecular analyses. Using the cotyledonary node explants and the bar selection system, we have successfully developed an improved and reliable transformation system than the earlier reported work on Indian genotypes of soybean, and this established protocol could provide a useful tool for genetic improvement and functional genome studies in soybean.

Overall efficiency enhancement and cost optimization of semitransparent photovoltaic thermal air collector

Beniwal, Ruby,Tiwari, Gopal Nath,Gupta, Hari Om Electronics and Telecommunications Research Instit 2020 ETRI Journal Vol.42 No.1

A semitransparent photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) air collector can produce electricity and heat simultaneously. To maximize the thermal and overall efficiency of the semitransparent PV/T air collector, its availability should be maximum; this can be determined through a Markov analysis. In this paper, a Markov model is developed to select an optimized number of semitransparent PV modules in service with five states and two states by considering two parameters, namely failure rate (λ) and repair rate (μ). Three artificial neural network (ANN) models are developed to obtain the minimum cost, minimum temperature, and maximum thermal efficiency of the semitransparent PV/T air collector by setting its type appropriately and optimizing the number of photovoltaic modules and cost. An attempt is also made to achieve maximum thermal and overall efficiency for the semitransparent PV/T air collector by using ANN after obtaining its minimum temperature and available solar radiation.

      • Eutectic nitrate melt promoted high-capacity of MgO sorbent for CO2 capture at intermediate temperature

서정길 ( Ruby Jane Broas ) 한국공업화학회 2015 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2015 No.1

This study examined the carbonate formation by CO2 at 350°C of low surface area magnesium oxide-based sorbent with eutectic nitrate salt. The eutectic nitrate salt was embedded into the synthesized MgO and the CO2 sorption performance of the modified sorbent was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Furthermore, in situ XRD of the modified sorbent was conducted to realize the interaction of CO2 gas molecules, eutectic melt and solid MgO during carbonation. The results showed that the phase transition favored the absorption of CO2 and the presence of a stable melt up to 500°C promoted the high CO2 capacity and regenerability of the new sorbent. This work was supported by KCRC through the NRF funded by Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning (NRF-2014M1A8A1049258).
