Thermal performance comparative analysis of nanofluid flows at an oblique stagnation point considering Xue model: a solar application

Ramzan Muhammad,Shahmir Nazia,Alotaibi Hammad,Ghazwani Hassan Ali S,Muhammad Taseer 한국CDE학회 2022 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.9 No.1

This exploration aims to study the comparison of heat transfer capabilities of two nanofluid oblique, steady stagnation-point flow combinations comprising single-walled carbon/water (SWCNHs/water) and multiwalled carbon nanotube/water (MWCNTs/water) toward a stretching surface influenced by nonlinear thermal radiation employing the Xue model. This envisaged comparison model is inimitable and still scarce in the literature. Relying on the Tiwari–Das nanofluid model, a mathematical framework is constructed. The system of partial differential equations is converted using suitable transformations into an ordinary differential system of three equations, which is evaluated numerically using the bvp4c method. The physical behavior of significant parameters and their graphical representation are thoroughly examined. The results show that the SWCNHs/water nanofluid outperforms the MWCNTs/water nanofluid. It is further witnessed that SWCNH nanoparticle contained nanofluid has considerably greater thermal radiation than MWCNT nanoparticles. The envisaged model is also validated by comparing it with a published study.

Quantum Chemical Designing of Efficient Sensitizers for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

Muhammad Imran Abdullah,Muhammad Ramzan Saeed Ashraf Janjua,Asif Mahmood,Sajid Ali,Muhammad Ali 대한화학회 2013 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.34 No.7

Density functional theory (DFT) was used to determine the ground state geometries of indigo and new design dyes (IM-Dye-1 IM-Dye-2 and IM-Dye-3). The time dependant density functional theory (TDDFT) was used to calculate the excitation energies. All the calculations were performed in both gas and solvent phase. The LUMO energies of all the dyes were above the conduction band of TiO2, while the HOMOs were below the redox couple (except IM-Dye-3). The HOMO-LUMO energy gaps of new design dyes were smaller as compared to indigo. All new design dyes were strongly red shifted as compared to indigo. The improved light harvesting efficiency (LHE) and free energy change of electron injection ΔGinject of new designed sensitizers revealed that these materials would be excellent sensitizers. The broken coplanarity between the benzene near anchoring group having LUMO and the last benzene attached to TPA unit in all new design dyes consequently would hamper the recombination reaction. This theoretical designing will the pave way for experimentalists to synthesize the efficient sensitizers for solar cells.

      • Denoising and Detection of Power Quality Events Using Wavelet Transform

Muhammad Ramzan,Sangho Choe 대한전자공학회 2015 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2015 No.6

We present a new denoising technique using discrete wavelet transform (DWT), where correlation thresholding is used such that the PQ events are efficiently and reliably detected. We evaluate the PQ event detection rate of the proposed denoising scheme over Gaussian noise channels. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has an improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) over existing wavelet based scheme, even it is relatively simple.

DWT-based Denoising and Power Quality Disturbance Detection

Ramzan, Muhammad,Choe, Sangho The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2015 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.4 No.5

Power quality (PQ) problems are becoming a big issue, since delicate complex electronic devices are widely used. We present a new denoising technique using discrete wavelet transform (DWT), where a modified correlation thresholding is used in order to reliably detect the PQ disturbances. We consider various PQ disturbances on the basis of IEEE-1159 standard over noisy environments, including voltage swell, voltage sag, transient, harmonics, interrupt, and their combinations. These event signals are decomposed using DWT for the detection of disturbances. We then evaluate the PQ disturbance detection ratio of the proposed denoising scheme over Gaussian noise channels. Simulation results also show that the proposed scheme has an improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) over existing scheme.

Impact of FDI on Economic Growth in Developing Countries: Role of Human Capital

        Muhammad Ramzan,Bin Sheng,Sumbal Fatima,Zhilun Jiao 서울대학교 경제연구소 2019 Seoul journal of economics Vol.32 No.3

Economic theory proposes that FDI is one of the primary driving forces for stimulating growth (Barro and Sala-i-Martin 1995). Researchers still debate whether the interpretation of the direct effect of FDI on economic growth is inconclusive, whereas the significance of the absorptive capacity of host countries is commonly emphasized (e.g., Borensztein, De Gregorio, and Lee 1998; De Mello Jr. 1999; Alfaro et al. 2004; Makki and Somwaru 2004; Gönel and Aksoy, 2016). Such uncertainty may be the result of ignoring the effect of certain conditioning variables. This study aims to empirically explore whether FDI contributes to economic growth and whether the effect varies with the human capital development level in a panel data set of 70 developing economies from 1980 to 2015. The study employs the General Methods of Moments estimation instrumental variable technique to deal with the endogeneity issue. The empirical investigation shows that human capital threshold exists above which FDI exhibits a positive impact and below where it shows a detrimental effect on economic growth. Findings may help policymakers in selected developing countries to take advantage of the increasing international investment by considering domestic human capital development level.

A review of the state-of-the-art in aerodynamic performance of horizontal axis wind turbine

Muhammad Ramzan Luhur,Abdul Latif Manganhar,K.H. Solangi,Abdul Qayoom Jakhrani,Kishan Chand Mukwana,Saleem Raza Samo 한국풍공학회 2016 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.22 No.1

The paper presents the state-of-the-art in aerodynamic performance of the modern horizontal axis wind turbine. The study examines the different complexities involved with wind turbine blade aerodynamic performance in open atmosphere and turbine wakes, and highlights the issues which require further investigations. Additionally, the latest concept of smart blades and frequently used wind turbine design analysis tools have also been discussed. The investigation made through this literature survey shows significant progress towards wind turbine aerodynamic performance improvements in general. However, still there are several parameters whose behavior and specific role in regulating the performance of the blades is yet to be elucidated clearly; in particular, the wind turbulence, rotational effects, coupled effect of turbulence and rotation, extreme wind events, formation and life time of the wakes.

Exergoeconomic analysis of an LNG integrated - air separation process

Hamayun Muhammad Haris,Ramzan Naveed,Faheem Muhammad 한국화학공학회 2023 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.40 No.12

An integrated LNG regasification - air separation process is investigated using exergy and exergoeconomic analyses. The objective of developing this integrated process is to lower the calorific value of LNG by mixing regasified LNG with high purity nitrogen, while simultaneously recovering and utilizing valuable cryogenic energy from the LNG during its regasification to minimize the power consumption of the air separation unit (ASU) for nitrogen production. The overall exergy efficiency and exergy destruction of the integrated process are 76.47% and 28.52MW, respectively, with the compression section causing the most exergy destruction. Further exergoeconomic analysis of the proposed process reveals that the air compressors have the highest capital investment (CI) and operating and maintenance (O&M) cost rates, the pumps for cooling water and LNG have the highest exergoeconomic factors, and the low-pressure column and a multistream heat exchanger have the highest exergy destruction cost rates. A parametric study is also conducted to examine the impact of economic variables including interest rate, plant life, and compressor performance on exergy destruction, CI and O&M cost rates, and exergoeconomic factor. The findings of this study offer valuable insight into the design and optimization of similar integrated processes, with potential benefits for the energy industry.
