Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is rich in antioxidant properties. This study aimed to analyze three extraction methods, namely hot water extraction at 80oC (HWE), prethanol-A extraction (PAE), and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), to induce high antioxidant activities from ginseng seeds and sprouts. A significant increase in hydrogen peroxide inhibition was observed with the UAE method compared to that with the HWE and PAE methods. The ascorbate peroxidase activity as well as the total phenolic and flavonoid contents were increased in the UAE method, whereas the peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione activities were increased in the HWE method. In contrast, high catalase activity was observed in the seeds and sprouts treated with UAE and HWE, respectively. The overall results suggested that UAE can be an efficient method to obtain higher antioxidant activities from the ginseng seed and sprout extracts.

This case describes outbreaks of acute aspergillosis in a red-crowned crane. A six-month-old, male, crane had showed clinical signs (i.e. anorexia, performance loss, ruffled feathers and drooped wings and open mouth breathing, etc.) before death. In necropsy examination, spherical to oval nodules dissemi-nated from the respiratory tract to other organs. Those nodules were formed predominantly in air sacs, lung, peritoneum, serosa of esophagus and trachea. The nodules varied in size from 1 mm to over 1cm and the color was white to yellow. Microscopically, most of lung architecture were replaced by multiple foci which were characterized by well demarcated eosinophilic and karyorrhetic debris and surrounded by numerous Inflammatory cell. Most within necrotic center of the nodules, large numbers of fungal hyphae were present. Microbiology result indicated fungal growths on sabroud dextrose agar and bacte-rial growths on blood agar. Bacteria identified as E. rhusiopathiae using MALDI-TOF (microflex, BRUKER, USA) and fungi identified as A. fumigatus, A. terreus by sequencing the ITS1 and ITS4 regions. To con-firm the route of infection, we checked the existence of the same pathogens in cohabitant (i.e. mother crane). The young age and weakened immunity (i.e. bacterial infection, etc.) causes fatal aspergillosis in birds.

Forest land contains forest which provides public welfare functions including absorbtion of carbon dioxide, purification of water, prevention of soil erosion, maintenance and preservation of ecosystem and leisure and healing. The public welfare functions of forest land have been preserved through various systems including designating Conservation Forest Land, Forest Land Conversion Permit System, and Alternative Afforestation System. However, it has been difficult to prevent demand for speculative development of forest land to achieve profit through development, as the difference between economic benefits from forest land preservation and those from forest land development is significant. As a result, there is a limit to preserve public welfare functions of forest land. As forest land conversion and forest devastation are pointed out as major causes of climate change and the importance of forest environment is highlighted, the need for improvement of various public welfare functions of forest land by preventing reckless development is increasing. Accordingly, Emission Trading System and Forest Carbon Offset System are implemented as a way to improve public welfare functions of forest, but these systems have limitation in that the systems target only carbon absorption. Therefore measures to cover various public welfare functions of forest from integrated perspective and to induce voluntary efforts to conserve forest by reducing the gap between economic benefits from forest land development and those from forest land preservation should be established. This study presents the way to adopt Transfer System of Forest Conservation Right(TSFCR) under which the cost that corresponds to benefits from development in the case of forest land conversion and public welfare functions of forest damaged by forest land conversion is imposed on those who want forest land conversion. And cost for improving public welfare functions of forest is paid to those who improve public functions of forest through forestation or forest tending.

바다 - Ⅲ / C++ : 바다 - Ⅲ 에서의 C++ 결합 방법

본 논문에서는 한국전자통신연구소에서 개발중인 바다-Ⅲ 시스템, 즉, 고속 정보 통신망을 이용해 데이타베이스 서비스를 지원하는데 적합한 멀티미디어 객체지향 데이타베이스 시스템 중 C++ 사용자 인터페이스를 제공하는 바다-Ⅲ/C++에서 채택한 데이타베이스 시스템과 C++ 언어의 결합 방법에 대하여 서술한다. 기존 관계 데이타베이스 시스템에서 데이타베이스 언어를 프로그래밍 언어에서 사용시 발생했던 불일치성을 제거하기 위해 객체지향 데이타베이스 시스템에서 연구되어온 방법들을 비교, 분석하여, 바다-Ⅲ 시스템에서 채택한 방법에 대하여 서술한다. 바다-Ⅲ 시스템에서는 이식성, 유지 보수성 및 표준화에 중점을 두어 ODMG-93 에서 제시한 방법을 채택하기로 한다. 부분 결합 방식으로, 영속클래스의 계승에 의해 영속성을 부여하고, 영속 객체의 참조는 이중포인터 방식을 이용하고, 클래스의 정의는 C++ 클래스 정의문을 이용한 유틸리티 방식을 채택한다.
