For classification of the border areas, this study attempts a discriminant analysis using two kinds of main characteristics: land-use variables and land-price variables; consequen1ty the management strategy of the border areas is subdivided into 4 functional types according to hit ratio. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. (1) A-type area requires management strategy connected to town's function because it is similar to high-density-town. (2) B-type area resulted from not only a restrictive land-use control but also in need of environmental preservation under development pressure. Accordingly the management of this type of area requires especially residential participation. (3) Since C-type area is in close connection to the suburbs of towns, the management of this area demands both conservation and development through environmentally affection and sustainable management strategy. (4) The management of D-type area is closely related to that of Green Belt area because it is given more developmental pressure with town expanding in consideration of land-use and land-price. And since this area is used for woodland or farmland, it is necessary to prevent from sprawling development and conserve environment.

Objectives : The purpose of the study is to understand the sensory processing capacity and behavioral characteristics for preschoolers without disabilities, and to investigate the relationship between sensory processing skills and the behavioral characteristics. Methods : Mothers of preschoolers without disabilities between ages of 4 and 6 who attend Y kindergarten which is located in Busan, H kindergarten in Suwon, S kindergarten in Gimhae was participated. Mothers filled out the questionnaire at home from 4th to 14th of January in 2004. We used SSP(short sensory profile) which was used by Kim, Mi-Sun in 2001 to understand the sensory processing skills. We also used Behavior During Testing Checklist find their places in Miller Assessment for preschoolers to understand behavior characteristics. The results were analyzed with SPSS 10.0. Results : 1. Total incidents in sensory processing were 157 out of 190. Among sub items of the sensory processing, the mark of lower energy/weak was highest with 4.39 point and the mark of taste/smell sensitivity was lowest with 3.60 point. Total incidents in behavioral characteristics were 20 out of 24. Among the area of behavioral characteristics, the mark of sensory responses/threshold area was highest with 2.73 point and the mark of social interaction area was lowest with 2.29 point. 2. Children's total sensory processing capacity correlates with behavioral characteristics, the more sensory processing capacity, the more behavioral characteristics. Sensory processing point correlates with behavioral characteristics points except this item, reaction to separation from caretaker. Conclusions : We hope that the children who have behavioral characteristics with difficulties in sensory processing skills can be distinguished on the basis of this studying. Also, as we find and relieve early stage of the symptoms, following study which can present based to facilitate children's social development and improve the learning ability.

Objective Early detection and proper management of mental illness can help to prevent severe deterioration. However, with limited financial and human resources of community mental health services, it is not practical to carry out all conventional screening tools simultaneously. In this study, we aimed to develop and validate a brief but comprehensive screening questionnaire for four common mental illnesses of the elderly. Methods The brief screening for four mental illnesses of elderly (BS4MI-elderly) is a 14-item binary response questionnaire that covers dementia, depressive disorder, sleep disorder, and hwa-byung. To test validity, we compared conventional scale scores for three groups of participants classified using the BS4MI-elderly. The sensitivity, specificity, predictive value of positive test, likelihood ratio of positive test and internal consistency of the BS4MI-elderly were assessed. Finally, a correlation analysis between the BS4MI-elderly and general mental health scales was conducted. Results A total of 254 participants aged over 65 years were recruited. The BS4MI-elderly showed moderate to high sensitivity for the test that distinguishes the normal group from the risk and disorder groups (dementia: 0.61, depressive disorder: 0.88, sleep disorder: 0.85, hwa-byung: 0.94) and high specificity for the test that distinguishes the disorder group from the normal and risk groups (dementia: 0.91, depressive disorder: 0.93, hwa-byung: 0.84, sleep disorder: 0.84). The BS4MI-elderly also exhibited good internal consistency and significant correlations with general mental health scales. Conclusion The BS4MI-elderly, a brief but comprehensive screening tool, could be a useful instrument for screening the elderly in community mental health services.

We report the case in order to examine the effect of a mobile application program (“Diabetes & Nutrition”) developed in 2011- 2012 for self-management in patients with type 2 diabetes and to recommend important considerations when the mobile application program is developed. A 46-year-old man was newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2013 and had no complications. The height of the patient was 168 cm and the body weight was 75.6 kg. Nutrition education was conducted according to a medical prescription, and follow-up nutrition education was conducted after 3 and 6 months. After nutrition education, the patient was engaged in self-management using “Diabetes & Nutrition” program during 3 months. At 3 months, the body weight had decreased by 4.4 kg (from 75.6 to 71.2 kg), waist circumference by 5 cm (from 88 to 83 cm) and HbA1c level from 7.9% to 6.1%. Also at 3 months, the medication was reduced from from the dose of 850 mg to the dose of 500 mg metformin per twice a day. Since then, the patient did not continue to use the “Diabetes & Nutrition” because the level of blood glucose had stabilized, and the patient felt inconvenient and annoying to use the program. At 6 months, no significant change in the body weight and body composition was observed in comparison with those at 3 months. The present case demonstrates that the early use of “Diabetes & Nutrition” could be helpful for self-management of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Developing self-management mobile application programs in the future will require strategies of how to promote continuous use of application program and self-management of type 2 diabetes.

High performance liquid chromatographic method with diode-array detection (HPLC-DAD) has been performed for the simultaneous determination of four marker constituents, paeoniflorin, trans-cinnamic acid, schisandrin and glycyrrhizin in traditional herbal medicinal preparation, So-Cheong-Ryong-Tang (SCRT). The presence of paeoniflorin, trans-cinnamic acid, schisandrin and glycyrrhizin in this decoction was ascertained by retention time, spiking with each authentic standard, UV spectrum and ESI mass spectrum. All four compounds showed good linearity (r2 > 0.998) in a relatively wide concentration ranges. The RSD for intra-day and inter-day precision was less than 3% and the limits of detection (LOD) were less than 30 ng. The mean recovery of each compound was 94.1 - 113.0% with RSD values less than 3.0%. These results suggest that the developed HPLC method is simple, effective and could be readily utilized as a quality control method for commercial SCRT products.
The Care of Older People and Family Negotiation in Korea
Mi Kyeong Cho 한국노인복지학회 2003 International Journal of Welfare for the Aged Vol.9 No.-
In Korea, the comprehensive changes caused by the modernisation process have affected the patterns and availability of family care for older people. Despite of these changes, it seems that social policy for older people has reflected the idea of the traditional family based on filial piety. Drawing on case studies of kin groups caring for their older relative in Korea, this study explores the ways in which family responsibilities for the care of older relatives operate in practice looking at whether family responsibilities are negotiated in the Korea context. It also discusses some ideas of family negotiation such as the gender and birth order differences in negotiations, the character of commitments, the idea of making excuses and constructing personal and public reputation. This study found that family responsibilities, though strongly affected by normative expectations, were negotiated within families in modern Korea society. Thus it suggests a concept of family obligation in the Korean context which is more fluid than is implied by the idea of moral rules associated with genealogical relationships. The conception of family responsibilities as negotiated commitment is different from the policy assumption that family responsibilities are seen as something taken for granted, arising naturally from family relationships.
