General purpose of cylindrical capacitive displacement sensor(CCS) is measuring run-out motion and deflection of rotor. If CCS has narrow sensing range, its sensitivity coefficients must be calibrated precisely. And x, y component of CCS output can be coupled. In this research, CCS calibration procedure is automated with automatic calibration program and PC-controlled stage. And, coupled-terms of CCS signals were removed and the errors between measured position and mapped CCS signal were reduced obviously by sensitivity matrix that linearly

A ten months old, female Yorkshire terrier weighing 2.88 kg referred to veterinary teaching hospital of college of veterinary medicine, Konkuk University because of syncope, cough and dyspnea. First hematological and serum chemical test revealed thrombocytopenia, mild anemia, and increase of concentration of ALP (195 U/L). On 57 days later, second hematological and serum chemical test revealed polycythemia, increase of concentration of ALP (211 U/L), and Tchol (387 mg/dl). Right atrium enlargement, main pulmonary artery bulge and cardiomegaly (VHS = 11.5) were observed in radiographic findings. Ultrasonographic images showed both right and left ventricular dilation and turbulent flow between the descending aorta and the main pulmonary artery in color Doppler imaging. ECG showed left ventricular enlargement, SA block, and electrical alternant. Thoracotomy was performed through left fourth intercostal incision under isoflurane anesthesia. Patent ductus arteriosus was double ligated with 1-0 silk. Cough and dyspnea disappeared on 5 days after operation. Turbulent flow was not found in color doppler imaging of ultrasonography on 10 days after operation. Ten months later after the operation, syncope could not exist any more.
Interplay between epigenome and 3D chromatin structure

Epigenetic mechanisms, primarily mediated through histone and DNA modifications, play a pivotal role in orchestrating the functional identity of a cell and its response to environmental cues. Similarly, the spatial arrangement of chromatin within the threedimensional (3D) nucleus has been recognized as a significant factor influencing genomic function. Investigating the relationship between epigenetic regulation and 3D chromatin structure has revealed correlation and causality between these processes, from the global alignment of average chromatin structure with chromatin marks to the nuanced correlations at smaller scales. This review aims to dissect the biological significance and the interplay between the epigenome and 3D chromatin structure, while also exploring the underlying molecular mechanisms. By synthesizing insights from both experimental and modeling perspectives, we seek to provide a comprehensive understanding of cellular functions. [BMB Reports 2023; 56(12): 633-644]

Electro-magnetic launcher (EML)는 전자기력을 이용하여 발사체를 추진시키는 장치이다. EML은 크게 레일건의 형태와 코일건의 형태로 구분되며, 본 논문에서는 코일건의 형태로 설계, 제작하였다. 코일건의 형태인 EML은 솔레노이드에 여자되는 전류에 의해서 발사체에 흡인력이 발생하여 추진, 가속되므로 솔레노이드의 최적형태를 설계하고, 이를 바탕으로 제작하여 EML의 스위칭 시간에 따른 속도를 측정하여, 여자전류의 스위칭 시간에 따른 동작특성을 해석, 실험하여 분석하였다.

<P>The placement of artificial disks can alter the center of rotation and kinematic pattern; therefore, forces in the spine during the motion will be affected as a result. The relationship between the location of joint center of artificial disks and forces in the spinal components is not investigated. A musculoskeletal model of the spine was developed, and three location cases of center of rotation were investigated varying 5 mm anteriorly and posteriorly from the default center. Resultant joint forces, ligament forces, facet forces, and muscle forces for each case were predicted during sagittal motion. No considerable difference was observed for joint force (maximum 14%). Anterior shift of center of rotation induced the most ligament forces (200 N) and facet forces (130 N) among the three cases. Posterior and anterior shifts of centers of rotation from the default location caused considerable changes in muscle forces, respectively: 108% and 70% of increase in multifidi muscle and 157% and 187% of increase in short segmental muscle. This study showed that the centers of rotation due to the design and the surgical placement of artificial disk can affect the kinetic results in the spine.</P>

<P>Summary: To develop ionic polymer-metal composites (IPMC) with improved performance, three new ion-exchange membranes were prepared and employed in IPMC construction. The membranes were prepared by radiation-grafting of polystyrene sulfonic acid onto three fluoropolymers; poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene), poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene), and poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-hexafluoropropylene). The bending displacements of the IPMCs constructed with these membranes were at least several times larger than that of Nafion IPMC of similar thickness without straightening-back. Isolation of a Calmodulin-binding Transcription Factor from Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Calmodulin (CaM) regulates diverse cellular functions by modulating the activities of a variety of enzymes and proteins. However, direct modulation of transcription factors by CaM has been poorly understood. In this study, we isolated a putative transcription factor by screening a rice cDNA expression library by using CaM:horseradish peroxidase as a probe. This factor, which we have designated OsCBT (Oryza sativa CaM-binding transcription factor), has structural features similar to Arabidopsis AtSRs/AtCAMTAs and encodes a 103-kDa protein because it contains a CG-1 homology DNA-binding domain, three ankyrin repeats, a putative transcriptional activation domain, and five putative CaM-binding motifs. By using a gel overlay assay, gel mobility shift assays, and site-directed mutagenesis, we showed that OsCBT has two different types of functional CaM-binding domains, an IQ motif, and a Ca^(2+)-dependent motif. To determine the DNA binding specificity of OsCBT, we employed a random binding site selection method. This analysis showed that OsCBT preferentially binds to the sequence 5'-TWCG(C/T)GTKKKKTKCG-3' (W and K represent A or C and T or G, respectively). OsCBT was able to bind this sequence and activate β-glucuronidase reporter gene expression driven by a minimal promoter containing tandem repeats of these sequences in Arabidopsis leaf protoplasts. Green fluorescent protein fusions of two putative nuclear localization signals of OsCBT, a bipartite and a SV40 type, were predominantly localized in the nucleus. Most interestingly, the transcriptional activation mediated by OsCBT was inhibited by co-transfection with a CaM gene. Taken together, our results suggest that OsCBT is a transcription activator modulated by CaM.
