        슬개골 탈구 환견에서 지대 중첩, 활차구 성형 및 경골결절변위술의 복합수술 평가

        The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results obtained from three surgical techniques (retinacular imbrication, trochleoplasty and tibia tuberosity transposition), which were simultaneously applied for correction of patellar luxation. Eleven, (6 to 108 months) old dogs were presented. The dogs showed, medial patellar luxation (17 stifle joint) and lateral patellar luxation (2 stifle joint) ranging from grade 1 to 4. By palpation and radiographic view, all 11 dogs were diagnosed as patellar luxation. Bilateral patellar luxation was diagnosed in 8 dogs. After operation, the dogs were monitored daily for 7 days and on the 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th days. Lameness progressively decreased in all dogs around 30 days after surgery, and the patients were showed normal walking. Normal walking was possible in 2 dogs after 4 days, in a dog after 5 days, a dog after 7 days, 3 dogs after 10 days, 2 dogs after 15 days, a dog after 25 days and a dog after 30 days (Mean±S.E: 12.27±2.57). The recovery took 14 days in dogs with bilateral patellar luxation, and 9 days in dogs with unilateral patellar luxation. Trend of decrease of lameness grade in bilateral patellar corrected dogs were similar to that in unilateral patellar corrected dogs. Swelling, pain and fever disappeared on 7 days. In conclusion, combination of tibial tuberosity transposition, retinacular imbrication and trochleoplasty is appropriate for dogs with patellar luxation.

        Combined Intraocular Silicone Prosthesis and Conjunctival Flap for Glaucoma after Corneal Perforation in a Dog

        A 7-month-old intact male Maltese dog was presented with a 1.5-month history of glaucoma in the right eye (OD). Ophthalmic examinations revealed a corneal perforation with iris entrapment, corneal edema and neovascularization, and buphthalmos OD. Intraocular pressures were 33 mmHg OD and 19 mmHg in left eye (OS). The right eye was diagnosed with chronic glaucoma and corneal perforation with iris entrapment. Now that the eye was blind, implantation of intraocular silicone prosthesis (ISP) and conjunctival flap were elected to salvage the globe. The corneal perforation healed with the conjunctival pedicle flap and the cornea accommodated the ISP properly. A satisfactory cosmetic result was achieved without complications in the 15 months following the procedure. Therefore, this case report indicates the combined an ISP and a conjunctival flap would be an alternative for the treatment of glaucoma associated with corneal perforation in dogs.

        국내 개에서 발생한 망막질환 65례

        The objective of this retrospective study was to investigate the prevalence of retinal diseases in dogsoul National University from April 2004 to December 2005.Sixty-five dogs (120 eyes) with retinal diseases involving blindness were included in this study. Age, breed, and genderdata for all breeds were collected from medical records documenting vision los. Generalized progressive retinal atrophy(gPRA) was the most common manifestation. Other prevalent findings included sudden acquired retinal degeneration(SARD) and retinal detachment (RD). Bilateral gPRA was found in 32 dogs with a female-to-male ratio of 1 : 1.The mean age± SD of all dogs in this group was 4.66± 2.30 years with a range of 3 to 12 years. Breeds withhighest prevalence of gPRA were Miniature Schnauzer (24/32, mean± SD age: 3.79± 0.78 yr) and Poodle (2/32,6.50± 0.71 yr). Twelve dogs (24 eyes) were diagnosed with SARD bilaterally, ranging from 3 to 13 years of age(mean ± SD: 6.91± 2.61 yr). There were no abnormalities in fundus of 11 dogs at presentation. Electroretinographyall response was totally extinguished. Retinal detachmentwas identified in 21 dogs (32 eyes): 11 bilateral and 10 unilateral (7 right eye, 3 left eye). The most common breedwas Shih Tzu (15/21, mean± SD age: 4.39± 3.24 yr). Four other breeds comprised the remaining 6 cases (8 eyes).The overall mean age of the group was 4.18± 2.89 years (range 0.8 to 14 years) with a female-to-male ratio of1 : 1.1 (10 females, and 11 males).

        Seasonal Variations of Intraocular Pressure in Normal Sapsaree Dogs

        This study was performed to evaluate the seasonal variation of intraocular pressure (IOP) values in normal Sapsaree dogs. Sapsaree dogs (n = 474) clinically free from ophthalmic disease were included in this study, and both eyes were examined in each dog. An applanation tonometer (Tonopen® XL) was used to measure IOP values in both eyes. Data obtained from both eyes were stratified by factors thought to affect IOP values including age, gender, hair coat type as well as season of measurement. The IOP results were compared by ANCOVA to verify the effect each factor had on IOP, and an ANOVA test followed by a Bonferroni post hoc test was used for further analysis. The overall mean ± SD IOP value was 19.1 ± 3.7 mmHg (range: 8 to 28 mmHg) in the present study. Only seasonal variation showed a significant effect (P < 0.001), on IOP values. IOP values measured in winter (20.4 ± 3.4 mmHg) and summer (17.1 ± 3.6 mmHg) were significantly higher and lower, respectively, than those measured in other seasons. These results suggest a seasonal variation has a significant effect on the IOP of normal dogs. This may prompt further research and possible modification of current veterinary ophthalmic references.

        개에서 발생한 원발성 안구 후방 수막종 1례

        A 13-year-old neutered female Maltese was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University with 8-month-history of gradually enlarging retrobulbar mass in the right eye. On the ophthalmic examinations, exophthalmos, exposure keratitis, and cataract were observed, and menace response was absent in the eye. The fellow eye was normal except for nuclear sclerosis. On the ocular ultrasonographic evaluation, a mass was identified in retrobulbar and periocular region in the right eye. Exenteration was performed in order to remove the mass. Histopathologic evaluation revealed that most part of the mass was composed of epithelial-like neoplastic cells. Invasion into adipose cells and osseous metaplasia around the mass were also confirmed. Based on the radiologic and histopathologic examination, the mass in the right eye was diagnosed as primary retrobulbar meningioma. Eleven months after the surgery, recurrence was not observed.

        개에서 발생한 상공막염 12례

        The purpose of this study was to determine clinical features of canine episcleritis and outcomes of therapy in Korea. The medical records of dogs with episcleritis presented at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University from January 2006 to December 2007 were reviewed. Episcleritis was diagnosed in 17 eyes of 12 dogs. The most frequently affected breed was Shih Tzu (n = 6). The median affected age was 5 years with a range from 3 years to 12 years. Simple episcleritis was identified in 8 dogs, nodular granulomatous episcleritis (NGE) in 3 dogs, and secondary episcleritis caused by panophthalmitis in a dog. The combination immunosuppressive therapy of topical corticosteroids, topical cyclosporine A, and intralesional injection of triamcinolone (4 mg) and gentamicin (4 mg) was performed. Most of the patients with episcleritis were resolved within 30 days following the therapy. Surgical excision was performed in 1 NGE case which was not responded to the medical therapy. Recurrence was observed in 4 dogs between 5 and 8 months after the first visit. It is considered that strong immunosuppressive therapy and periodic ocular examination are needed to control episcleritis.

        Optical Coherence Tomography를 이용한 원발성 맥락망막염 이환견의 진단 및 치료

        A 5-year-old intact male Yorkshire terrier dog was referred with a 1-week history of blindness. In both eyes, menace responses and pupillary light reflexes were absent. The indirect ophthalmoloscopy revealed multiple small gray-white and discoloration lesion in mid-nontapetum area in both eyes. Electroretinograms showed diminished amplitude of a- and b-waves. Multifocal serous retinal detachments were detected with optical coherence tomography (OCT) over the small gray-white and discoloration lesion in the fundus. After one week of treatments, the indirect ophthalmoloscopy showed that irregular patches and hyperpigmentation in the center of hyperreflectivity area. Reattachment and retinal thinning were observed by the OCT. The results indicate that OCT scanning is considered to be a useful method for retinal evaluation in dogs with chorioretinitis.

        개에서 발생한 비정형의 결절성 육아종성 상공막염 1례

        A 5-year-old castrated male Cocker Spaniel was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University with a history of chronic conjunctival hyperemia and a fleshy corneal mass in the right eye. On ophthalmic examinations, it was observed that a well-vascularized fleshy mass at the dorsolateral limbus extended into the clear cornea. The lesion regressed by initial medications, including both topical and systemic corticosteroids, and topical cyclosporine A. However, the lesion relapsed and grossly infiltrated to cornea in a short period of time without improvement in spite of the immunosuppressive therapy, leading to the vision loss. The eye was enucleated and nodular granulomatous episclerokeratitis was confirmed on histopathological examination.

        A Case of Feline Proliferative Eosinophilic Keratitis Treated by Topical Cyclosporine and Corticosteroids

        A 6-year-old spayed female Persian cat presented with a 3-month history of recurrent ulcerative keratitis with noticeable opacification and vascularization of the right cornea. The lesion was nonresponsive to topical antibiotics and to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ophthalmic examination showed signs of ocular discomfort, such as epiphora and blepharospasm, in the right eye. Biomicroscopic examination revealed an irregular, edematous, vascularized mass with pink to white tissue on the entire cornea and mild conjunctivitis. A tentative diagnosis of feline proliferative eosinophilic keratitis (FPEK) was made on the basis of clinical appearance. Cytologic examination of the cornea showed a mixture of numerous eosinophils and mast cells, which confirmed the original diagnosis of FPEK. The cat was treated with a topical antibiotic-corticosteroid combination, cyclosporine ointment, trifluridine eye drops, and oral Llysine. The clinical signs improved remarkably 18 days after the cat was first examined. The short-term use of corticosteroids and long-term use of cyclosporine and an anti-viral agent resolved the lesion without recurrence of the disease for 1 year.
