Purpose : This study was designed to apply a "stage of change" exercise intervention program to obese children in elementary school and to examine its effects on their BMI, stage of change, process, and self-efficacy in exercise. Methods : The experimental group included 64 children in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades, from one elementary school, whose BMI was in the 85th percentile or more for their age groups. The control groups had 61 students from a different one elementary school whose conditions were the same as those of the experimental group. Results : After the stage of change exercise intervention was applied, the BMI of the experimental group decreased by a significant enough degree to conclude that the program was effective in decreasing BMI. After the application of the program, the experimental group experienced a significant increase in thier helping relationships, counter-conditioning, reinforcement and stimulus control compared to the control group. After the program, self-efficacy in terms of exercise increased significantly in the experimental group. Conclusion : A stages of change exercise intervention program has been shown to engage individual students and encourage them to maintain a higher fitness level that promotes self-efficacy in exercise and therefore moves them towards healthier lifestyles. Moreover, the study proved that a significant reduction of BMI was achieved by the stages of change exercise intervention program.

To develop effective and safe acne vulgaris therapies with a continuing demand for new solutions, we investigated unique efficacy of an antibacterial agent from marine brown alga Eisenia bicyclis in treating acne vulgaris. The methanolic extract of E. bicyclis exhibited potential antibacterial activity against acne-related bacteria. The ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest antibacterial activity against the bacteria among solvent fractions. Six compounds (1-6), previously isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of E. bicyclis, were evaluated for antibacterial activity against acne-related bacteria. Among them, compound 2 (fucofuroeckol-A [FF]) exhibited the highest antibacterial activity against acne-related bacteria with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranging from 32 to $128{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$. Furthermore, FF clearly reversed the high-level erythromycin and lincomycin resistance of Propionibacterium acnes. The MIC values of erythromycin against P. acnes were dramatically reduced from 2,048 to $1.0{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ in combination with MIC of FF ($64{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$). The fractional inhibitory concentration indices of erythromycin and lincomycin were measured from 0.500 to 0.751 in combination with 32 or $64{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ of FF against all tested P. acnes strains, suggesting that FF-erythromycin and FF-lincomycin combinations exert a weak synergistic effect against P. acnes. The results of this study suggest that the compounds derived from E. bicyclis can be a potential source of natural antibacterial agents and a pharmaceutical component against acnerelated bacteria.

Background: The skin has many important functions such as protection, preservation, temperature regulation, and vitamin D synthesis. It is composed of a variety of cell types including keratinocytes, melanocytes and fibroblasts. Objective: We attempted to compare the gene expression profiles between keratinocytes, melanocytes and fibroblast, using cDNA microarray. Methods: Keratinocytes, melanocytes and fibroblasts were primary cultured from five foreskin specimens. Total RNAs were extracted and pooled to reduce the individual variations, and then used for cDNA microarray. Results: Total 12,028 genes were selected as the reliable genes whose expression was detected in at least one of the three cell types. By comparing the relative expression levels with cutoff limitation as a fourfold change, we obtained 126 fibroblast-specific, 179 keratinocyte-specific and 173 melanocyte- specific genes, many of which are known to be characteristically expressed in each cell type. In addition, we identified many genes whose skin-specific functions have not yet been determined. Conclusion: Our data provide important information on which to base further investigation into the specification of skin cell types. (Ann Dermatol 25(1) 36∼45, 2013)
Satellite Image Processing Software for Value-Added Products
Lee, Hae-Yeoun,Park, Won-Kyu,Kim, Seung-Bum,Kim, Tae-Jung,Yoon, Tae-Hun,Shin, Dong-Seok,Lee, Heung-Kyu The Korean Society of Remote Sensing 1999 大韓遠隔探査學會誌 Vol.15 No.4
To extract value-added products which are important in scientific area and practical life, e.g. digital elevation models, ortho-rectified images and geometric corrected images, Satellite Technology Research Center at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has developed a satellite image processing software called "Valadd-Pro". In this paper, "Valadd-Pro" software is briefly introduced and its main components such as precise geometric correction, ortho-rectification and digital elevation model extraction component are described. The performance of "Valadd-Pro" software was assessed on 10m resolution 6000 $\times$ 6000 SPOT panchromatic images (60km $\times$ 60km) using ground control points from GPS measurements. The height accuracy was measured by comparing our results with 100m resolution $DTEDs^{1)}$ produced by USGS and 60m resolution DEMs generated from digitized contours produced by National Geography Institute. Also, to show the superior performance of "Valadd-Pro" software, we compared the performance with that of commonly used PCI$\circledR$ commercial software. Based on the results, the geometric correction of "Valadd-Pro" software needs fewer ground control points than that of PCI$\circledR$ software and the ortho-rectification of "Valadd-Pro" software shows similar performance to that of PCI$\circledR$ software. In the digital elevation model extraction, "Valadd-Pro" software is two times more accurate and four times faster than PCI$\circledR$ software.ccurate and four times faster than PCI$\circledR$ software.
Long-term endocrine outcome of suprasellar arachnoid cysts
Lee, Ji Yeoun,Lee, Young Ah,Jung, Hae Woon,Chong, Sangjoon,Phi, Ji Hoon,Kim, Seung-Ki,Shin, Choong-Ho,Wang, Kyu-Chang Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group 2017 Journal of neurosurgery. Pediatrics Vol.19 No.6
OBJECTIVE
Due to their distinct location, suprasellar arachnoid cysts are known to cause a wide variety of problems, such as hydrocephalus, endocrine symptoms, and visual abnormalities. The long-term outcome of these cysts has not been elucidated. To find out the long-term outcome of suprasellar arachnoid cysts, a retrospective review of the patients was performed. The neurological and endocrine symptoms were thoroughly reviewed.
METHODS
Forty-five patients with suprasellar arachnoid cysts, with an average follow-up duration of 9.7 years, were enrolled in the study. A comprehensive review was performed of the results of follow-up regarding not only neurological symptoms but also endocrine status. The outcomes of 8 patients who did not undergo operations and were asymptomatic or had symptoms unrelated to the cyst were included in the series.
RESULTS
Surgery was most effective for the symptoms related to hydrocephalus (improvement in 32 of 32), but endocrine symptoms persisted after surgery (4 of 4) and required further medical management. More surprisingly, a fairly large number of patients (14 of 40; 1 was excluded because no pre- or postoperative endocrine evaluation was available) who had not shown endocrine symptoms at the time of the initial diagnosis and treatment later developed endocrine abnormalities such as precocious puberty and growth hormone deficiency. The patients with endocrine symptoms detected during the follow-up included those in both the operated (n = 12 of 32) and nonoperated (n = 2 of 8) groups who had been stable during follow-up since the initial diagnosis.
CONCLUSIONS
This study implies that patients with suprasellar arachnoid cysts can develop late endocrine problems during follow-up, even if other symptoms related to the cyst have been successfully treated. Hence, patients with these cysts need long-term follow-up for not only neurological symptoms but also endocrine abnormalities.
