<P>PEO-based amphiphilic block copolymers that exhibit a pH responsive phase transition behavior are synthesized. The amphiphilic block copolymers show sharp phase transitions in the physiological pH (7.2) range of aqueous media. The block copolymers were efficient stabilizers for the preparation of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in aqueous media. The resulting iron oxide nanoparticles in the size range of 5–30 nm showed a relatively good <TEX>$T_2^* $</TEX> image on the basis of the results on their phantom test. All the materials were characterized by the combination of <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, UV/visible spectroscopic analysis, magnetization, transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and X-ray diffraction pattern analysis.</P><P> <img src='wiley_img_2010/10221352-2010-211-10-MACP200900528-gra001.gif' alt='wiley_img_2010/10221352-2010-211-10-MACP200900528-gra001'> </P> <B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>The synthesis of PEO-based amphiphilic block copolymers that exhibit a pH responsive phase transition behavior is reported. <P>The true electric actuation thickness strain of poly (styrene-b-ethylbutylene-b-styrene) (SEBS) gel was measured using an in situ synchrotron SAXS. The thermoplastic elastomer SEBS gel was microphase-separated to form a disordered styrene micelle nanostructure in an oil-swollen ethylbutylene matrix. The SEBS gel showed reversible cyclic load–unload compression behavior without permanent residual strain. The electromechanical strain of the SEBS gel with carbon paste electrodes could be evaluated by means of a nanostructure dimensional change traced by using the in situ synchrotron SAXS during actuation. The strain measured with SAXS was compared with the strain measured using conventional laser displacement sensor systems. The optical laser sensor method was likely to overestimate the thickness strain due to the bending movement of the dielectric elastomer. To our knowledge, the thickness strain value measured by the synchrotron SAXS is the closest to the true strain ever measured in the field of dielectric elastomer studies, because the nanostructure dimensional change depends on the thickness dimension change, not on the translational movement like the bending motion. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 미국 애니메이션 <쿵푸 팬더>에서 표현된 중국 이미지에 관한 연구 : 색채 상징을 중심으로

동양에 대한 관심이 영화라는 파급력 있는 산업에 흡수되어 재해석 및 재창조를 거쳐 전 세계에 공급되고 있다. 이러한 현상을 배경으로 본 논문은 영상매체에 적용된 색채 분석을 통하여 서구적 시각에서 재해석된 동양의 이미지가 어떻게 반영되고 가공되었는지 알아보기 위하여 진행되었다. 대중성이 높고 수용 연령층의 폭이 넓은 애니메이션 장르 <쿵푸 팬더>의 오프닝 타이틀 시퀀스로 범위를 한정하여 연구하였으며 색채 분석 방법은 영상에서 일정한 시간적 간격을 두고 스틸 이미지를 만들어 동일한 기준을 적용하여 씬 단위 주조색을 추출하였다. 추출된 주조색과 배색 상황을 파악하고 그 결과를 문화적·민족적 차이로 인한 색채의 상징적 의미를 기준으로 해석하였다. 해석 결과 헐리우드에서 제작된 <쿵푸 팬더>의 오프닝 타이틀 시퀀스 색채는 중국의 전통 색채관을 차용하였지만 중국의 실질적 선호 색채를 분석하고 정확한 중국의 이미지를 전달하였다기 보다는 서양인들이 생각하는'중국적인 것' 혹은'동양적인 이미지'의 색채를 상업영화의 범주 내에서 배색 및 조합하여 제작되었음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 그것은 자본의 힘을 타고 전 세계에 공급되고 있으며 동양인들이 그것을 역수입하여 다시 동양의 정체성으로 받아들이는 이러한 현상은 에드워드 사이드의'오리엔탈리즘'을 통해 다시 한번 확인할 수 있다. 동양인들은 이러한 현상에 경각심을 가지고 정확한 판단력과 통찰력으로 우리의 동양문화의 아이덴티티를 정립해 나가야 한다. An interest regarding the East is supplied all over the world by re-interpret and re-creation from the influence film industry. From these backgrounds this paper proceeded in order to study how an Asian image re-interpreted in the Western sights through color analyses applied to image media. I wrote my paper within the scope of the opening title sequence of <Kung fu panda> what is one of the animation genres played for people of all ages to enjoy. As the way of color analysis I captured the frame still images in the sequence at regular intervals and extracted the main colors in a scene unit using the same standards. I understood the main color concepts with the color planning and analyzed them by the meaning of color symbolize with a cultural ethnic difference. The study says the colors of opening title sequence of <Kung fu panda> made by Hollywood only borrowed the Chinese traditional color concepts. The combination colors were not made for informing Chinese real preferred and real orient image but made for spread the Westerner's thinking about what the Chinese is and what the Orient is. We need to have consciousness to these phenomena and get our identity of Asian cultures with correct judgment and insight.
Synthesis and Characterization of w-Sulfonated Polystyrene-stabilized Cadmium Sulfide Nanoclusters

We report an important and useful method for preparing -sulfonated polystyrene-stabilized cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoclusters. The -sulfonated polystyrene (Mn = 5000 g/mol) was prepared successfully through chain-end sulfonation of poly(styryl)lithium using 1,3-propanesultone; the resulting polymer was used successfully as a polymeric stabilizing agent for the preparation of semiconductor CdS nanoclusters by reduction of cadmium acetate in a mixture of toluene and methanol (9:1, v/v). The nanoclusters that formed were characterized by a combination of transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and UV/Vis spectroscopic analysis. The -sulfonated polystyrene-stabilized CdS nanoclusters synthesized in this study exhibited the cubic phase (zinc-blende phase) structure in the range of 2~8 nm.
Hole-transporting property of a chemically hybridized poly(vinylcarbazole)-fullerene

We synthesized a star copolymer of poly(vinylcarbazole) (PVK) branched from a fullerene (C60) center, and investigated itsoptical absorption and photoluminescence properties. The chemically hybridized PVK-C60 was then employed as a hole-trans-porting layer of the electroluminescent device with a poly(9,9'-dihexyluorene-2,7-divinylene-m-phenylenevinylene-stat-p-phenyl-enevinylene) (CPDHFPV) emitting layer. The ITO/PVK-C60/CPDHFPV/LiF/Al device showed a strong electroluminescence quenching due to a direct contact of the PVK-C60 and the CPDHFPV layers. In contrast, when an additional PVK layer wasintroduced between the two layers, the electroluminescence was largely enhanced. The emitted light power of the ITO/PVK-C60/PVK/CPDHFPV/LiF/Al device was improved by. 3 times compared with the device without the PVK-C60 layer.
