The key technology of robot is the design of the actuator. Particularly breakthroughs of power-to-weight ratio or energy-density III actuator technology have significant impacts upon the design and the control of robotic systems. To realize the anthropomorphic motion, artificial muscles such as shape memory alloy(SMA) and electro active polymer(EAP) are used. These actuators have the higher energy density than the electromechanical actuators such as the electric motor. The EAP has the property of good elasticity, but it is difficult to get the required power. The SMA has the good power density and simple structure, but the control scheme of the actuator is difficult. In this paper, temperature control of SMA wire using segment control is studied. The SMA wire is segmented by thermo-electric module(TEM). To supply constant currents in TEMs, MOSFET is used. Hysteresis in one segment of SMA wire is evaluated. The force and displacement of SMA wire are measured according to the number of segment. The program to control the temperature of TEM is developed by using LabVIEW software.

We have reported that ginseng total saponin (GTS) inhibited the development of physical and psychological dependence on morphine. However, the possible molecular mechanisms of GTS are unclear. Therefore, this study was undertaken to understand the possible molecular mechanism of GTS on the inhibitory effects of morphine-induced dependence. It has been reported that the up-regulated cAMP pathway in the LC of the mouse brain after repeated administration of morphine contributes to the feature of withdrawals. GTS inhibited up-regulation of cAMP pathway in the LC after repeated administration of morphine in this experiment. GTS inhibited cAMP levels and protein expression of protein kinase A (PKA). In addition, GTS inhibited the increase of cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) phosphorylation. Therefore, we conclude that the inhibitory effects of GTS on morphine-induced dependence might be mediated by the inhibition of cAMP pathway.

본 논문은 NAND Flash Memory 수명을 향상시키기 위한 동작 algorithm 개선을 제안한다. Flash memory에 대한 read/write/erase 과정에서, 해당 cell의 Vth가 원하는 level대로 위치를 한다면 문제가 없으나, 원하는 위치대비 변동이 되어 있다면 잘못된 data를 읽어내게 된다. 이러한 cell간 interference나 disturbance 현상들은 program이나 erase 동작이 반복(EW cycle)될수록 더 심해지는 특징이 있다. 이는 반복되는 high bias 인가상태에서 벌어지는 FN tunneling 현상으로 인한 tunnel oxide 막질손상(trap site 증가)에 기인한다고 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 erase cell 관점에서 stress양 자체를 감소시킴으로써 cell 열화 속도를 느리게 하여, 궁극적으로 발생하는 Vth 변동사항인 disturbance를 줄일 수 있는 erase 동작방법에 대해 논한다. This paper focuses on algorithm innovation of NAND Flash Memory for enhancing cell lifetime. During flash memory read/write/erase, the voltage of a specific cell should be a valid voltage level. If not, we cannot read the data correctly. This type of interference/disturbance tends to be serious when program and erase operation will go on. This is because FN tunneling results in tunnel oxide damage due to increased trap site on repetitive high biased state. In order to resolve this problem, we make the cell degradation by reducing the amount of stress in terms of erase cell, resulting in minimizing the cell disturbance on erase verify.

N/A To evaluate the diagnotic value of pleural SCSb-9 in the differential diagnosis of tuberculous and malignant pleural effusion, we measured pleural ADA activity and SCSb-9 concentration in 71 cases of pleural effusions due to tuberculosis (n=35) and malignancy (n=36). And we also measured pleural C4d fragment and Bb fragment concentration to determine by which pathway the complement activation occurs in pleural space. The results were as follows: 1) The median value of pleural SC5b-9 concentration of tuberculous effusion was 6.4 ug/ml (interquartile range 2.6~11.7) and was significantly higher than that of malignant effusion (p<0.005). 2) The median values of pleural C4d fragment concentration were 15.5 mg/ml (9.9~18.9) in tuberculous effusion and 12.8 mg/ml (7.3~19.6) in malignant effusion. There were no significant difference between two groups. The median value of pleural Bb fragment concentration of tuberculous effusion was 7.8 mg/ml (5.5~12.8) and was significantly higher than that of malignant effusion (p<0.01). 3) The SC5b-9 concentration showed no significant correlation with C4d fragment concentration both in tuberculous effusion and malignant effusion. But the SC5b-9 concentration showed significant correlation with Bb fragment concentration both in tuberculous effusion (r=0.48, p<0.005) and malignant effusion (r=0.72, p<0.001). 4) The median value of pleural ADA activity of tuberculous effusion was 64.3 U/L (40.9~103.5) and significantly higher than that of malignant effusion (p<0.001). 5) Pleural ADA activity showed significant correlation with pleural SC5b-9 concentration in tuberculous effusion (r=0.53, p<0.005). 6) According to the receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis, the measurement of pleural ADA activity is superior to that of pleural SC5b-9 concentration in the differential diagnosis of tuberculous and malignant effusion. In conclusion, the measurement of pleural SC5b-9 concentration can be used as an adjunctive test in the differential diagnosis of tuberculous and malignant effusion but pleural ADA activity measurement was superior to pleural SC5b-9 concentration measurement. And pleural SC5b-9 concentration of tuberculous effusion was higher than that of malignant effusion and it seems to be due to the difference in activation of alternative pathway activation of complement in two groups.

Zinc is an essential trace element required for bone formation, however not much has been clarified yet for its role in osteoblast. We hypothesized that zinc would increase osteogenetic function in osteoblasts. To test this, we investigated whether zinc treatment enhances bone formation by stimulating osteoblast proliferation, bone marker protein alkaline phosphatase activity and collagen synthesis in osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells. MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured and treated with various concentrations of zinc (0, 1, 3, 15, 25 uM) along with a normal osteogenic medium (OSM) as control for 1, 5, 10 days. As measured by MTT assay for mitochondrial metabolic activity, cell proliferation was stimulated even at low zinc treatment (1-3 ${\mu}M$) compared to OSM, and it was stimulated in a zinc concentration-dependent manner during 5 and 10 days, with the most pronounced effect at 15 and 25 uM Zn. Cellular (synthesized) alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was increased in a zinc concentration-dependent manner, so did medium (secreted) ALP activity. Cellular collagen concentration was increased by zinc as time went by, therefore with the maximum zinc stimulatory effect in 10 days, and medium collagen concentration showed the same pattern even on 1 and 5 day. This zinc stimulatory effect of collagen synthesis was observed in cell matrix collagen staining. The study results imply that zinc can increase osteogenic effect by stimulating cell proliferation, ALP activity and collagen synthesis in osteoblastic cells.

<P>This brief proposes a code-reusable design methodology for synthesizable successive approximation register (SAR) ADCs based on the digital design flow to significantly reduce design effort. The SAR ADCs are composed of a capacitor-DAC (CDAC) macro cell generated by a CDAC compiler and analog functional blocks implemented utilizing digital standard cells. Two prototypes of SAR ADCs (12-bit 100 kS/s and 11-bit 50 MS/s) are fabricated in different CMOS processes (180 nm and 28 nm). The prototype ADCs prove the effectiveness of the proposed design methodology with comparable performances with full-custom designed SAR ADCs.</P>
Bone mineral density change during adjuvant chemotherapy in pediatric osteosarcoma

Purpose: Osteoporosis is currently receiving particular attention as a sequela in survivors of childhood osteosarcoma. The aim of this study was to evaluate bone mineral density (BMD) changes during methotrexate-based chemotherapy in children and adolescents with osteosarcoma. Methods: Nine patients with osteosarcoma were included in this retrospective study and compared with eight healthy controls. BMD of the lumbar spine and unaffected femur neck of patients was serially measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) before and just after chemotherapy and compared with controls. Results: Four patients (44%) showed decreased lumbar spine BMD and seven patients (78%) showed decreased femur neck BMD, while all controls showed increased lumbar and femur BMD (P=0.024 and P=0.023). The femur neck BMD z-scores decreased from −0.49±1.14 to −1.63±1.50 (P=0.032). At the end of therapy, five patients (56%) showed femur neck BMD z-scores below –2.0. Conclusion: The bone metabolism is disturbed during therapy in children with osteosarcoma, resulting in a reduced BMD with respect to healthy controls. Since a reduced BMD predisposes to osteoporosis, specific attention and therapeutic interventions should be considered.

Tobacco smoke condensate (TSC) has been reported to be carcinogenic to several animal species and include a nom'her of tumor initiators and tumor Promot☞rs.3-Hydroxypyridine (3-PfOH ), asignificant constituent of tobacco smoke, has been shown to induce the cytochrome P4S02El. In thisstudy we have investigated the influence of 3-PyOH on the activities of hepatic cytechromes P4SOuonooxygenases 1p450s) and UDP-glucuronyltransferase (UDP-GT), sulfotransferase (57) and gluts-thioue-5-transferase (GST) in male Sprague-Dawley rats. and compared with effect of TSC on metabo-lizing enBymes in rats hep,atocytes. We also examined if 3-PyOH and TSC would change the toxificationof acetaminophen (AA) through modulation of metaboliaing eazymes.3-PyOH (2mmo1/kg, p.o., 5 days)significantly increased the hepatic P4501Al and eST activity to 1.5 fold and 1.3 fold of control,respectivety. Treatment of TSC (250#g/m f, 2 days) dramatically enhanced the activity of PfSOIAl to7.5 fotd of control in rats hepatocytes. Smaller, but significant increase was observed with the activityof P4501A2(1.6 fold of control) in TSC-treated hepatocytes. After pretreatment of 3-PyOH (2mmo1/kg,p.o.5 days) iB ICR mice, potentiation of hepatotoricity by AA (400mg/kg, i.p., 24 hr) tras observed bymeasuring serum ALT activities. In rats hepatocytes, cytoteficity of AA was caused by pretreatmentwith TSC (250#g/mf,2 days) at non-cytotoxic concentration (ImMf. These results indicate that both of3-PyOH.and .?SC are potent inducers of PfSOIAl, but have lift)e effect on the phase rl metabolizing en-zymes. Moreover, potentiation of AA toxicity by pretreatments of 3-PyOH or TSC may be related to in-ductioa of Pfsos.
