        만성폐색성폐질환 환자의 임상적 분류에 따른 운동생리의 차이

        N/A While patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can be divided into two clinical groups as Pink Puffers (PP) and Blue Bloaters (BB), and whether or not knowledge on the physiologic changes during exercise in PP or BB and their differences might be useful to document the pathophysiology of PP and BB has been in debate. To evaluate the differences in exercise performance and physiologic changes during exercise between the two groups, pulmonary function test at rest, arterial blood gas analysis before and after exercise and incremental exercise test with bicycle ergometer on 16 PP and 9 BB patients with the same degree of airway obstruction in the resting state were conducted. The results were as follows. 1) There was no differences in sex, age, smoking history, forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV₁) and FEV₁/FVC between the two groups. 2) The anaerobic threshold (AT) was significantly lower in the PP group (p<0.05), while FEV₁, was not different. 3) There were no differences in the resting ventilatory response to O₂consupmption (VE/Vo₂) and to CO₂production (VE/Vco₂) between the two groups, but VE/ Vo₂and VE/Vco₂at maximal exercise were significant- ly nigher in the PP group (p<0.01). The increase in minute ventilation according to work load increment (△VE/△work 1oad), △VE/△Vo₂VE/Vco₂, were all significantly higher in the PP group (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001, respectively). 4) There was a good correlation between △VE/△Vo₂, and △VE/△Vco₂(r = 0.782, p<0.001) in all patients. From the above findings. it was suggested that the PP were not only more sensitive in ventilatory response to the changes in the work load, O₂, or CO₂than BB, but that they also had lower exercise performance, and the ventilatory sensitivities to O₂, and CO₂were closely correlated with each other in all patients. However further study would be necessary for the identification of the pathophysiologic mechanisms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

        N/A To evaluate the physiologic derangement in patient's with diffuse interstitial lung disease, chest X-ray, spirometry including forced vital capacity and diffusing capacity and arterial blood gas analysis are used generally. But it is known that these parameters do not correlate well with the degree of pulmonary fibrosis or changes of clinical course. Although the diffusing capacity is most widely used in evaluating the changes of physiologic derangement as the disease progresses, the changes of physiologic parameters during exercise and the availability of these parameters in clinical follow-up are not well known, Chest X-ray, spirometry with forced vital capacity and diffusing capacity and incremental exercise test with arterial blood gas analysis at rest and maximal exercise were performed in 13 clinically improved patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease before and 3 months after treatment with corticosteroid. The changes of resting and exercise physiologic parameters were evaluated and the correlation of mean percent changes between each parameters was analyzed. 1) Radiologic score manifesting pulmonary involvement in chest X-ray after 3 months' treatment showed significant improvement in comparison with that of pre-treatment(p < 0. 01). 2) Among the parameters in resting state, FVC, FEV f and DLco/VA, showed significant increase (p<0.01), and DLco/VA, showed largest change. 3) In incremental exercise test, work duration, maximal minute ventilation, maximal oxygen uptake and the difference in oxygen uptake between rest and maximal exercise showed significant increase (p<0.05), but maximal work load, maximal breathing frequency, breathing reserve and heart rate reserve showed no significant difference. 4) PaO₂at rest and maximal exercise were increased significantly (p<0.05), but PaCO₂, at rest and maximal exercise showed no significant change. 5) VD/VT,, P(A-a), O₂and P(a.ET) CO₂at rest and maximal exercise were decreased, but there was no significant difference (p>0.05). The changes of PaO₂/ changes of oxygen uptake and the changes of P(A-a)O₂/ changes of oxygen uptake between rest and maximal exercise also showed no significant difference. 6) The changes of DLco/VA, correlated with that of resting PaO₂, and exercise PaO₂(p<0.01), and that of maximal oxygen uptake correlated with that of exercise PaO₂and exercise P(A-a)O₂(p<0,01). From the above findings, it seems that DLco/VA, is a most useful parameter at rest in evaluating the changes of physiologic derangement in patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease after treatment, and reflects the changes of PaO₂, at rest and maximal exercise, and the changes of exercise parameters failed to show any superiority to resting parameters in this study.

        Characteristics of Absorption and Accumulation of Inorganic Germanium in Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer

        The characterstics of absorption and accumulation of inorganic germanium in Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer were examined. In 4-year-old P. ginseng, the germanium content of the field soil increased with increased amounts and frequencies of inorganic germanium application, while chemical components of the soil, such as available phosphate and exchangeable calcium, potassium, and magnesium, decreased with the increased inorganic germanium application. In the 4-year-old P. ginseng, the germanium content was highest in the rhizome and increased in the order of stem, leaf, lateral root, and main root, suggesting that inorganic germanium was absorbed from the root and translocated to the stem and leaf via the rhizome. As for changes in ginsenosides in 4-year-old P. ginseng rhizomes, the contents of ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Re, and Rf decreased as the germanium content in soil increased. Ginsenosides Rb₁, Rb₂, Rc, Re, and Rf in the main root also decreased with increasing germanium content in the main root. The results suggest that inorganic germanium treatment may increase organic germanium in harvested P. ginseng, thus enhancing the medicinal effi cacy of ginseng products.

      • Expression of Recombinant Porcine Interleukin-2 and Application ofIts Antibody to Immunoassays

        Interleukin-2 plays an important role in Tlymphocyte proliferation and imune response regul-ations. In this tudy, porcine IL-2 cDNA was clonedfrom peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and recom-binant porcine IL-2 (rpIL-2) was expresed in Escherichiacoli . The size of rpIL-2 without signal peptides wasabout 15 kDa when determined by SDS-PAGE andproduced from ice imunized with the purifiedrpIL-2, and its pecificity was examined by Westernblotting and ELISA. In the Western blotting asay,anti-rpIL-2 and anti-recombinant human IL-2 (rhIL-2)antibodies pecifically recognized rpIL-2 and rhIL-2,respectively. However, anti-rpIL-2 antibody did notrecognize rhIL-2, and anti-rhIL-2 antibody also didnot react with rpIL-2 in the same asay. In ELISA,anti-rpIL-2 antibody strongly interacted with bothrpIL-2 and rhIL-2, and anti-rhIL-2 antibody also efici-specificity of anti-rpIL-2 antibody for pIL-2 wasdemonstrated by Western blotting and ELISA. It wasalso shown that ELISA is more efficient han Westernblotting in determing the species cros-reactivity ofanti-rpIL-2 antibody.

        Phenological growth stages of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng) according to the extended BBCH scale

        Background: Phenological studies are a prerequisite for accomplishing higher productivity and better crop quality in cultivated plants. However, there are no phenological studies on Panax ginseng that improve its production yield. This study aims to redefine the phenological growth stages of P. ginseng based on the existing Biologische Bundesanstalt, Bundessortenamt und Chemische Industrie (BBCH) scale and proposes a disease control reference. Methods: This study was conducted at the Korea Ginseng Corporation Experiment Station in Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Phenological observations were performed once weekly or twice monthly, based on the developmental stages. The existing BBCH scale with a three-digit code was used to redefine and update P. ginseng’s phenological growth codes. Results: The phenological description is divided into eight principal growth stages: three for vegetative growth (perennating bud, aerial shoot, and root development), four for reproductive growth (reproductive organ development, flowering, fruit development, and fruit maturation), and one for senescence according to the extended BBCH scale. A total of 58 secondary growth stages were described within the eight principal growth stages. Under each secondary growth stage, four mesostages are also taken into account, which contains the distinct patterns of the phenological characteristics in ginseng varieties and the process of transplanting seedlings. A practical management program for disease control was also proposed by using the BBCH code and the phenological data proposed in this work. Conclusion: The study introduces an extended BBCH scale for the phenological research of P. ginseng.

        Development and authentication of Panax ginseng cv. Sunhong with high yield and multiple tolerance to heat damage, rusty roots and lodging

        Ginseng ( Panax ginseng ) has been used as a valuable medicinal plant in Asia, and the demand for ginseng production for health functional food is increasing worldwide after the COVID-19 crisis. Although a number of cultivars have been developed to increase ginseng production, none of them were widely cultivated in Korea because they could not resist various environmental stresses while being grown in one place for at least 4 years. To address this, Sunhong was developed as a ginseng cultivar with high yield and multiple stress tolerance by pure line selection. Sunhong showed high yield and heat tolerance comparable to Yunpoong, a representative high-yielding cultivar, and exhibited 1.4 times lower prevalence of rusty roots than Yunpoong, suggesting that Sunhong can keep its high yield and quality during long-term cultivation. In addition, distinct color and lodging resistance were expected to increase the convenience of cultivation. To supply pure seeds to farmers, we also established a reliable high-throughput authentication system for Sunhong and seven ginseng cultivars through genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) analysis. The GBS approach enabled to identify a suffi cient number of informative SNPs in ginseng, a heterozygous and polyploid species. These results contribute to the improvement of yield, quality, and homogeneity, and therefore promote the ginseng industry.

        방사선 및 기관지경검사상 잠재성이었던 폐의 상피내 암종 1 예

        Lung cancer should be detected before there is evidence of extensive disease, since the single most important determinant of survival duration is the stage of disease. But, it is very hard to diagnose early lung cancer because of the lack of symptom at this stage. The use of chest roentgenograms along with sputum cytology is the most reliable detector of early lung cancer. In case of positive sputum cytologic examinations with negative chest roentgenograms for malignancy, the computed tomography of chest and the intensive bronchoscopy are useful adjunct to these methods for localization of the cancer. We report a case of lung cancer as carcinoma in situ; (CIS) in a 65-year-old heavy smoker with left-sided chest pain (which was not related to cancer). The chest radiograph and computed tomography showed no mass density, and there was no visible abnormality on the repeated bronchoscopies; nevertheless, malignant cells were found on the cytologic examinations of sputum, and the localization was carried out by the repeated use of separate bronchial washings and bronchoscopic biopsies. Successful surgical treatment was done with pathological identification of carcinoma in situ.
