Purpose: This study aims to test if the age of pregnant women affects the perception, experience, and attitude towards complementary alternative therapy (CAT), by investigating the perception, experience, and attitude of pregnant women under the age of 35, and above 35 (Advanced Maternal Age). The study will 1) find the general characteristics of pregnant women under and over the age of 35 2) compare the perception, behavior, and experience of pregnant women under and over the age of 35, and 3) find the comparison of the perception, behavior, and experience according to the general characteristics of pregnant women under and over the age of 35. Method: The subjects of this study are composed of 44 women under the age of 35 and 44 women above the age of 35, totaling 88 pregnant women visiting midwiferies, obstetrics and gynecology, and baby fairs in Seoul and Gyeong-Gi area. Data for this study was collected from November 28, 2015 to January 6, 2016 for 40 days. The collected data analyzed mean, standard deviation, t test, ANOVA, and chi-square by using SPSS 23.0. Result Results show that there is a significant difference in the perception, attitude, and experience of the two-sample groups in the use of CAT. The question of “what is most necessary when applying CAT in a hospital clinical environment” for the perception criteria came out with the results of t=9.980, p<.05. For the attitude, results showed that the answers of pregnant women under the age of 35 displayed a more positive attitude towards CAT. (t=2.421, p<.05) Lastly, in the experience section, pregnant women under the age of 35 showed more CAT use than the other sample group. Conclusion Results have shown that there is a difference in the perception, behavior, and experience between the two sample groups. Therefore further research on the efficacy and the adverse effects of CAT needs to be done.

<P>One of the main challenges in the development of new analytical platforms for ultrasensitive bioaffinity detection is jointly achieving a wide dynamic range in target analyte concentration, especially for approaches that rely on multistep processes as a part of the signal amplification mechanism. In this paper, a new surface-based sandwich assay is introduced for the direct detection of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), an important biomarker for cardiac failure, at concentrations ranging from 1 aM to 500 nM. This was achieved using nanoparticle-enhanced surface plasmon resonance (SPR) where a DNA aptamer is immobilized on a chemically modified gold surface in conjunction with the specific adsorption of antiBNP coated gold nanocubes in the presence of the biomarker target. A concentration detection range greater than eleven orders of magnitude was achieved through dynamic control of only the secondary nanoparticle probe concentration. Antimicrobial Activity of Propolis Extracts against Skin Pathogen

Propolis extracts from Korea and Brazil were investigated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities against skin pathogen. For this, we used 80% ethanol extracts of propolis from Korea (KPEE) and Brazil (BPEE). Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) for the strains tested was determined using the method of broth dilution with the KPEE and BPEE in serial concentration, respectively. The antibacterial activity of KPEE showed MIC of 0.25μg/ml for Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli; 0.5μg/ml for Staphylococcus aureus; 1.0μg/ml for Propionibacterium acnes. However, the MIC of BPEE for B. subtilis, S. aureus, P. acnes, and E. coli was 1.0, 0.5, 4.0, and 0.5μg/ml. The antifungal activity of KPEE using agar diffusion test was 24.34±0.5, 19.19±1.0 and 26.64±1.0 of the inhibitory zone for Trichophyton tonsurans, T. mentagrophytes and T. rubrum. The inhibitory zone of BPEE was 11.48±0.3, 11.0±0.5 and 13.11±0.5 for T. tonsurans, T. mentagrophytes and T. rubrum. All tested skin pathogens were more susceptible to the KPEE than BPEE. It seems that the Korean propolis has antimicrobial activity more than Brazilian propolis.
Anthocyanin의 Delphinidin이 MDA-MB-231 유방암세포에 미치는 영향

본 연구에서는 블루베리에 포함된 anthocyanin 중 delphinidin이 인간 유래의 MDA-MB-231 유방암세포의 성장을 억제시키고 apoptosis를 유발하는지 살펴보고 in vivo 실험에서도 항암효과가 나타나는지 확인하였다. 그 결과 cell viability를 보기 위한 MTT assay에서는 농도 의존적으로암세포의 성장을 억제시켰으며, apoptosis의 확인을 위한 DAPI stain에서 농도 의존적으로 chromatin condensation이 유의적으로 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 western blot에서 암 억제 유전자인 p53 단백질이 증가하였고, anti-apoptotic 분자인 Bcl-2 단백질과 p-GSK3β 단백질은 감소하였다. In vivo 실험에서는 대조군과 비교해 10 mg/kg delphinidin을 투여한 군에서 종양의 크기가 감소하였으며, TUNEL assay를 통해 apoptosis 세포 또한 통계학적으로 유의적인 증가가 관찰되어 종양 억제 효과를 확인하였다. 이상의 결과들로 볼 때, MDA-MB-231 유방암세포에서 delphinidin은 암세포의 증식을 억제시키고, apoptosis를 유발시키는 효과를 보이므로 암 예방제나 치료제로 개발될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. This research showed that delphinidin, an anthocyanin present in blueberry, induced apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells as well as mediated anti-cancer effects in vivo. As a result, growth of cancer cells as assessed by MTT assay decreased in a concentration-dependent manner. Chromatin condensation by DAPI staining significantly increased in a concentration-dependent manner, indicating apoptosis. The level of p53-protein increased while those of anti-apoptotic molecules (Bcl-2, p-GSK3β) decreased in the western blot. Tumor size decreased in cells treated with 10 mg/kg of delphinidin compared with the control group in vivo. Cell apoptosis assessed by TUNEL assay significantly increased, and tumor inhibitory effect was confirmed. Therefore, delphinidin can be developed for cancer preventive medicine due to its growth inhibitory effects and induction of apoptosis in human breast cancer cells.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report the effect of the oxygen content of the LaAlO<SUB>3</SUB> layer on the synaptic behavior in the Pt/LaAlO<SUB>3</SUB>/Nb-doped SrTiO<SUB>3</SUB> memristor for neuromorphic applications. As the oxygen-content decreases, the current becomes larger and the spike time-dependent plasticity (STDP) becomes less sensitive to the time difference between pre- and post-synaptic spike voltage. In addition, the conduction mechanism, which was found to be a combination of thermionic and Poole-Frenkel emissions, and the effect of oxygen content are explained in association with the oxygen vacancy in the LaAlO<SUB>3</SUB> layer. The trade-off between large current and efficient STDP can be controlled by the oxygen content. Furthermore, the results of extracting the synaptic strength-based model parameters indicate that the Pt/LaAlO<SUB>3</SUB>/Nb-doped SrTiO<SUB>3</SUB> shows the efficient STDP characteristics in comparison to previously reported memristor materials.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Spike time-dependent plasticity (STDP) in the Pt/LaAlO<SUB>3</SUB>/Nb-doped SrTiO<SUB>3</SUB> memristor. </LI> <LI> The effect of oxygen content in the LaAlO<SUB>3</SUB> layer on synaptic behavior. </LI> <LI> The trade-off between large current and efficient STDP controlled by oxygen content. </LI> </UL> </P>
