No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

Mortality after cervical spine injury(CSI) is reported as high as 10∼30%, and it is intimately related to the initial management and cardiopulmonary function. We analyzed the cause of death for 29 patients who expired at Chung Ang Gil Hospital after CSI between 1990 and 1994. Of 198 patients with CSI, 43 patients(21m7%) died. Except 14 cases with concomitant fatal head injury and/or multiple systemic injuries, the mortality rate of CSI was 14.6%. Male to female ratio was over 6:1. Fourth to sixth decades constituted 69.0%. Common causes of CSI were traffic accidents(58.6%) and fall/slip(34.5%). The level of CSI was above C5(upper cervical group: UCG) in 65.5%, and below C4(lower cervical group: LCG) in 34.5%. Most of them(86.2%) died within four weeks after CSI. Early death(within 7 days) was more common in the UCG(57.9%) than the LCG(20.0%). Associated injuries were found in 72.4%, and the head injury was the most common one. The higher the Injury Severity Score(ISS), the earlier the patients expired(Fisher`s test, P<0.05). On arrival, hypotension(systolic blood pressure below 90mmHg), bradycardia(less than 60/min), and respiratory arrest was found in 31.0%, 34.5% and 17.2%, respectively. The episode of bradycardia was found in 58.6%. It was more common in cases of early death(69.2%) than those of the late death(50.0%). Hypoxia, hypercarbia, and acidosis was observed in 20.7%, 17.2%, and 51.7%, respectively. Respiratory failure was responsible for the majority(89.7%) of death. In UCG and the cases of the early death, primary respiratory dysfunction was the main cause of death, while in LCG and the cases of the late death, pulmonary complication was the major reason(Fisher`s test P<0.01, P<0.01, respectively).
Catenary 곡면을 갖는 막구조물의 치환기법에 관한 연구

Membrane structure systems and cable net structure systems are attracting people's attention as they are used in many buildings because of their light materials and airy appearances. If a membrane structure system or a cable net structure system does not have sufficiently high initial stiffness, it may be in unstable state. But if the initial stiffness is secured, the system will be in stable state. In this study the nonlinear finite element formulae for membrane and cable members considering geometric nonlinearity is derived, and then a catenary's membrane structure, and a tension membrane structure by Nass(Nonlinear Analysis for Spatial Structures) program is analyzed. The suitable scheme, which membrane structure are assigned by cable elements for overcoming the unfitted shape problem, is shown that the section of cable is assigned by element's area.

A sarcomatoid carcinoma or carcinosarcoma is very rare biphasic tumor characterized by a combination of malignant epithelial and mesenchymal cells. Our case was a-51-year-old female, with palpable mass on rt. lower abdominal lesion. At first, we checked her abdominal CT &diagnosed mucocele /c adenocarcinoma on rt. colon. Then, laparoscopic hemicolectomy &lymph node dissection was performed. But histollogically, the tumor was Sarcomatoid carcinoma, arising in mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in the appendix. The mass size was 9.5cm length approximately &infiltrated the appendix. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cell showed a positive immunoreactions for vimentin &pancytokeratin. It means the tumor has two potential cells; epithelial and mesenchymal cell elements. Scarcomatoid carcinoma of colon is malignant tumor with poor prognosis. The patient was treated with doxorubicin &cisplatin therapy, but we lost the patient. A sarcomatoid carcinoma of colon is extremely rare tumor. We found one case &present it with review of the literatures.

This review explores recent works involving the use of the self-assembled nanoparticles of bile acid-modified glycol chitosans (BGCs) as a new drug carrier for cancer therapy. BGC nanoparticles were produced by chemically grafting different bile acids through the use of l-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide (EDC). The precise control of the size, structure, and hydrophobicity of the various BGC nanoparticles could be achieved by grafting different amounts of bile acids. The BGC nanoparticles so produced formed nanoparticles ranging in size from 210 to 850 nm in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, pH=7.4), which exhibited substantially lower critical aggregation concentrations (0.038-0.260 mg/mL) than those of other low-molecular-weight surfactants, indicating that they possess high thermodynamic stability. The SOC nanoparticles could encapsulate small molecular peptides and hydrophobic anticancer drugs with a high loading efficiency and release them in a sustained manner. This review also highlights the biodistribution of the BGC nanoparticles, in order to demonstrate their accumulation in the tumor tissue, by utilizing the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. The different approaches used to optimize the delivery of drugs to treat cancer are also described in the last section.

ABSTRACT: The zygomatic nerve (ZN), which originates from the maxillary nerve at the pterygopalatine fossa, enters the orbit through the inferior orbital fissure. Within the lateral region of the orbit, the ZN divides into the zygomaticofacial (ZF) and zygomaticotemporal (ZT) nerves. The ZF and ZT nerves then pass on to the face and temporal region through the zygomaticoorbital foramen and enter their own bony canals within the zygomatic bone. However, multiple zygomaticofacial and zygomaticotemporal canals (ZFCs and ZTCs, respectively) can be observed, and their detailed intrabony courses are unknown. The aim of this study was clarify the three-dimensional intrabony courses and running patterns of the ZFCs and ZTCs, both to obtain a detailed anatomical description and for clinical purposes. Fourteen sides of the zygomatic bones were scanned as two-dimensional images using a micro-computed tomography (CT), with 32-μm slice thickness. Intrabony structures of each canals were three-dimensionally reconstructed and analyzed using Mimics computer software (Version 10.01; Materialise, Leuven, Belgium). We found that some ZTC was originated from ZFC. In 71.4% of the specimens, the ZTC(s) divided from the intrabony canal along the course of the ZFC(s). In other cases, 28.6% of ZTCs were opened through each corresponding ZT foramen. Zygomaticofacial canal originates from zygomaticoorbital foramen, divided into some of ZTCs, and is finally opened as ZF foramen. This new anatomical description of the intrabony structures of the ZFC(s) and ZTC(s) within the zygomatic bone by micro-CT technology provided helpful information to surgeons performing clinical procedures such as Le Fort osteotomy and reconstructive surgeries in the midface region.

Enantiomers of five racemic ${\beta}_2$-agonists were investigated by capillary electrophoresis employing a hydroxypropyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (HP-${\beta}$-CD). The effects of the concentration of HP-${\beta}$-CD added to the background electrolyte and of the pH of the buffer on the effective mobility and resolution of the studied compounds were examined. Very good resolution was achieved for terbutaline and clenbuterol; salbutamol and bambuterol was able to be partially resolved. Enantioselectivity and resolution were influenced by the concentration of the HP-7-CD, buffer composition and pH.
