      • a-TN-LCD의 전기광학특성에 표면액정배향이 미치는 영향

        The characteristics of the response time and the viewing angle on twisted nematic(TN)-liquid crystal display(LCD) and amorphous (a)-TN-LCD without rubbing were investigated. To measure the Tansmission-Voltage, response time, and viewing angle characteristics, we prepared three kinds of LC cells and then studied the surface liquid crystal alignment effect. It was found that the response time on a-TN-LCD was fast compared to the TN-LCD, and the weak anchoring strength was attributed to the fast response time on a-TN-LCD. Also, we obtained the wide viewing angle characteristics on-a-LCD. We suggest that the liquid crystal alignment effect on LCD device is very important for electro-optical characteristics.

      • 충북지역 도시방재계획의 도시계획적 진단과 발전방향 : 도시계획서 분석 및 전문가 의견조사를 중심으로

        본 연구는 도시방재계획의 현황을 도시계획적 차원에서 진단하고 그 발전방향을 도출하고자 하는 목적하에, 충청북도의 조례와 지침중 도시방재 관련 사항을 정리하며, 충청북도 지방도시계획위원회 회의록 및 관련자료를 검토하여 방계계획의 취급 수준을 파악하였다. 실제 도시계획 상황에 대한 진단은 도시계획 보고서를 대상으로 도시방재계획의 위상을 분석하고 평가하였다. 또한 도시방재계획의 위상과 관련 전문가의 인식수준을 평가하고 이를 바탕으로 향후 바람직한 도시방재계획의 위상을 설정하기 위해 필요한 사항을 분석하고자, 도시방재에 관한 일반의식 수준, 도시재해에 관한 대처방안, 도시방재계획의 평가방향 등을 중심으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이상과 같은 충북지역의 방재계획에 대한 도시계획적 진단을 바탕으로 도시방재계획 관리체계의 방향 도출과 도시방재계획의 향후방향 제안을 시도하였다. This paper examines the status quo of the existing urban disaster prevention plans in Chungbuk Province and suggests alternative orientations for the future application. Its methodological themes center around the systematic compilation and accountability of disaster-related ordinances, mostly hinged on evaluation of major disaster items documented in various urban master or revision plans. In addition, it recommends the concrete guidelines and contents in disaster prevention plans, both of which are based on the aggregated results of expert opinion survey in and around Chungbuk Province. In order to tackle with diverse and unpredictable disasters which are well observed in modern urban society, this paper urges that the relatively weak legal and planning standards of the existing disaster prevention plans have to be immediately revised. For instance, the paper vividly shows that the present dimension of disaster prevention plans within the existing master plans and perception of specialist are not satisfactory mainly because of the internal limitation of the existing plans. Secondly, it seems imperative for planners to pay attention to systematic operation and management, even starting from the early development stage of urban disasters. Lastly, it proposes the alternative checklists given to measure the suitability of the disaster plans.

        In order to clarify the deformation path dependence of flow stress in Al-Mg alloy at high-temperature deformation, the stress-strain curves are evaluated for different deformation paths at 573K. A method for theoretical prediction of flow stress along an arbitrary deformation path is developed to explain the deformation mechanism in solution hardened alloy at high temperature, and the theoretical stress-strain curves are compared with the experimental observation. The flow stress strongly depends on the deformation path.

        괴사 근막염이 합병된 류마티스 관절염

        Necrotizing fasciitis is a life-threatening soft tissue infection involving skin, subcutaneous tissue, and superficial fascia. We report a case of necrotizing fasciitis that developed in a 76-year-old female patient taking low-dose methotrexate and prednisolone for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A computed tomography scan of the neck during the initial work-up showed soft tissue swelling, loss of fat planes, and mild heterogeneous enhancement in the right lateral neck, suggesting cellulitis. The lesions were associated with skin necrosis and multiple bullae rapidly expanded to the right anterior chest in spite of empirical antibiotic therapy. Surgical debridement was immediately performed, and soft tissue biopsy from the lesions showed the pathologic finding consistent with necrotizing fasciitis. The skin wound defect was reconstructed by a flap operation with split-thickness skin graft. This case shows the development of necrotizing fasciitis in a elderly patient taking methotrexate and low-dose steroid for RA and highlights early recognition and prompt surgical debridement for successful management.

        A study on the reduction of antimony trioxide by hydrogen was carried out to investigate the mechanism and kinetics of antimony trioxide. Possible mechanism for the reaction was discussed with the experimental kinetic data obtained in this investigation. The results obtained in this study are as follows: 1) The rate of reduction was increasing by raising the reaction temperature and hydrogen gas flow rate. 2) The overall reaction rate was controlled by the chemical reaction and the activation energy was about 39.0㎉/㏖. 3) Among the additives, PbO promotes the reduction rate of Sb_2O_3, but CaO and SiO_2 did not effect the reduction of Sb_2O_3 and CaO influenced the grain growth of Sb metal reduced.

      • 내독소 내성(Endotoxin Tolerance)에 관한 실험적 연구

        Endotoxin is a lipo-polysaccharide protein complex derived from gram-negative bacteria, which can be introduced into the blood stream of the human body in various circumstances and causes so-called "endotoxin shock". Septicemia caused by gram=negative bacteria has been recognized at least since 'the report of Jacob(1909) and Felty aril Keefer(1924). However, septic shock was first described as a clinical entity by Waisbren(1951), and in subsequent years many experimental studies were conducted using endotoxin in dogs. Endotoxin, given in appropriate doses to the dog, produces hypotension, rise in portal pressure with simultaneous constriction of hepatic veins, great increase in the weight of the liver, and mesenteric ischemia (Sabiston, 1972). Recently, it has been' generally considered that any irreversibility of shock is a result from the insult of endotoxin (Smiddy and Fine, 1957; Fine et al., 1960; Siegel et al., 1967). Beeson(1947) suggested possible tolerance to the pyrogenic effect of endotoxin, and Atkins and Wood(1955) observed that tolerant animals cleared endotoxin, which was administered intravenously, more rapidly from the blood stream, and numerous experimental studies have been made on endotoxin shock (Dubos and Schaedler, 1956; Schweinburg et al., 1959; Smith et al., 1957; Carey et al., 1958; Freedman, 1960; Greisman et al., 1963; Rutenburg et al., 1967; Filkins and Di Luzio, 1968; Haugen, 1972; Trejo and Di Luzio, 1971). Endotoxin tolerance is the state of enhanced resistance of animals against thetoxic effects of bacterial endotoxins, and the tolerance state is usually induced by the prior administration of multiple sublethal doses of endotoxin (Beeson,1947; Carey et al., 1958; Freedman, 1960; Greisman et al., 1963; Tsagaris et al., 1969; Trejo and Di Luzio, 1972). Although the mechanism of endotoxin tolerance is still in controversy, it is generally thought that the endotoxin tolerance state is intimately related to phagocytic activity of the reticuloendothelial system (Good and Thomas, 1952; Schweinburg and Fine, 1955; Schweinburg et al., 1955; Zweifach et al., 1957; Fine et aI., 1958; Carey et al., 1958; Greisman et al., 1963; Arredondo and Kampschmidt, 1963; Filkins and Di Luzio, 1968), and, furthermore, related to the phagocytic activity of macrophages of the liver and spleen(Collins and Wood, 1959; Rutenburg et al., 1960; Cohn and Wiener, 1963; Cline et al., 1968; Filkins, 1971; Fine, 1972). Tsagaris et al. (1969) demonstrated in the hemodynamic study of endotoxin shock that tolerant animals were less susceptible than the nontolerant to hemodynamic changes such as blood pressure and cardiac output,and blood pressure and cardiac output were restored more rapidly in the tolerant animals than in the nontolerant. In mice pretreated with various agents, such as BCG and diethylstilbesterol to activate the reticuloendothelial function, increased susceptibility to endotoxin challenge was observed, and it was suggested that endotoxin tolerance is not related to the activation of reticuloendothelial function(Suter et al.,1958;Benacerraf et al., 1959; Stuart and Cooper, 1962). Moreover, tolerance to pyrogenicity of endotoxin was observed in the presence of normal phagocytic activity of the reticuloendothelial system, and activation of the reticuloendothelial system was not necessarily required in the development of endotoxin tolerance (Greistn,n et al., 1963). It is well known that liver and spleen consist of major reticuloendothelial tissue but it is not yet clear which organ participates more actively to detoxify endotoxin in the blood stream. It has been also suggested that distribution of endotoxin in the body is different between the tolerant and the nontolerant animals(Smith et al., 1957; Carey et al., 1958; Rutenburg et al., 1965; Alper et al., 1967). In order to provide additional information on endotoxin tolerance, a comparative study was conducted on the hemodynamic changes, antibody formation, endotoxin uptake, and histopathologic alterations in the reticuloendothelial system of endotoxin tolerant and nontolerant dogs.

        저자들은 신생아기 이후의 비타민 K 의존성 혈액응고인자의 감소로 인한 출혈성 질환을 5례 관찰하고 문헌 고찰을 하였다. We observed hemorrhagic disease due to vitamin K deficiency in 5 infants from 3 weeks to 7 months of age. The main problems were prolonged bleeding from the injection site in 3 cases and intracranial bleeding in 3 cases. The diagnosis was made with clinical manifestations, laboratory findings of prolonged PT and PTT and correction of PT and PTT after vitamin K injection. A brief review of literatures was made.

        Dermatomyositis Associated with Cancer of Unknown Primary Site

        Dermatomyositis (DM) is an uncommon inflammatory myopathy with characteristic rash accompanying, or more often preceding, muscle weakness. There is a wellrecognized association between DM and several cancers, such as ovarian cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, colon cancer, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. We report the first case of cancer of unknown primary site associated with DM. A 62-yr-old woman presented to us with both shoulder painful swelling and facial edema. She was diagnosed previously as cancer of unknown primary site, histologically confirmed with squamous cell carcinoma in a pelvic mass. For the following days, she complained of erythematous face followed by progressive weakness of the proximal muscles of upper and lower limbs. The laboratory tests showed an increased muscle enzyme and acute phase reactants. The electromyogram showed the typical findings of DM. After the treatment with high dose steroid and methotrexate, the proximal motor weakness improved, and she received palliative radiation therapy.
