        Developmental anomalies of the aortic arch, commonly known as vascular rings, are relatively rare congenital vascular anomalies which can compress the trachea and esophagus. One routine chest film of a patient who was checked and hepatoma-diagnosed in Internal Medicine, Chosun University Hospital left the room for doubt of mediastinal mass. But no subjective symptoms for the mass was told by the patient. This is to report our experience of a patient having right side aortic arch with aberrant left subclavian artery, as proved by diagnosis, but none of congenital heart disease. This right side aortic arch with aberrant left subclavian artery is the most frequent type among right aortic arch, the anomaly of which is usually detected from the incidental suspicion for mediastinal mass at routine chest film; because no symptoms are accompanied therewith.

      • Passive Sampler를 활용한 공단지역의 대기질 평가

        We used the passive diffusion samplers that are known to be very useful to measure the concentration of air pollutants with respect to the spatial distributions. In this study, we estimated the badge type passive sampler which is evaluation of accuracy and precision and badge type passive sampler is used for the measurement of So2 and No2 in pohang, Kunsan, Daejeon industral complex monthly. Concentration and spatial distribution survey are presented during 1 years. For So2 and No2 passive sampler, we made additional two blank samplers for each compound with the passive samplers for the actual measurement. The results of blank test shows that No2 is 0.29ppb, So2 is 0.55ppb on basis of the month. Using the results measured at the same places as TMS (telemetering system) sites, the accuracy of the passive sampler could be checked. The measurement data with passive sampler was time weighted average concentration for a month. So, it might be difficult to compare two data directly. Althought the correlation between the results of passive sampler and TMS data were not appeared so high, the applicability of passive sampler would be acceptable considering that these data were produced in uncontrolled experiment environment. Monthly variations of average So2 concetration in three industrial complex areas was compared. The average So2 concentration in Pohang and Kunsan area was appeared to be higher than Daejeon area because Pohang and Kunsan area is much bigger than Daejeon area in the magnitude of industrial complex. Also Pohang area was apperad to be higer than Kunsan area because the measurement data in Pohang area included the data inside the factory's lot, Also, the Comparison of NO2 concentration in each sit shows that NO2 near busy road is higher than residential area and industrial area. It is considered that the measurement of air pollutant using passive sampler is suitable for the areas such as industrial complex widely.

      • Hg_(1-x_CD_(x)Te의 陽極酸化에 관한 硏究

        The electrochemical property in H_(g)-(x)_Cd_(x)Te(x= 0.198) by anodic oxcidation have been studied in the standard aqueous solutions(pH=6, 9, 12) of ethylene glycol(90%) and H₂O-KOH(10%). At range of potential -0.1V ~ + 1.2V, 3 oxcidation peaks appeared. The rich residue Hg of HCT surface was related to oxcidation process of depleting Hg²+ ion in aqueous solution. Most of oxcidation materials were considered TeO₃ HTeO₃ HHgO₂, HTeO₂, TeO₂ and very little of Cd(OH)₂. The higher PH degree, the faster oxcidation process.

        In this paper, a fuzzy logic controller is designed for speed control of a hydraulic inverter elevator. Mathematical modeling of an elevator actuated with hydraulic system is presented and the friction characteristics of a cylinder is examined, which may cause the abrupt increase of the acceleration in the zero-crossing speed region. Simulation results show that the proposed fuzzy logic speed controller yields a better control performance than conventional PID controller.

        Improvement of Karmali Agar by Supplementation with Tazobactam for Detecting Campylobacter in Raw Poultry

        <B>ABSTRACT</B><P>In this study, Karmali agar was modified by adding tazobactam (T-Karmali agar) to suppress the growth of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli, which frequently contaminates raw poultry meat. By inoculating 30 Campylobacter spp. strains and 25 ESBL-producing E. coli strains onto Karmali agar and T-Karmali agar containing various concentrations of the antibacterial agent, we determined the optimum concentration of tazobactam to be 4 mg/liter. The Campylobacter spp. isolation rate on T-Karmali agar (13.3%) was higher than that on Karmali agar (8.3%), although the difference was not significant (P &gt; 0.05). However, T-Karmali agar showed a significantly greater selectivity than Karmali agar, as evaluated by comparing the numbers of contaminated agar plates (20.8 versus 82.5%; P &lt; 0.05) and the growth indexes (1.36 versus 2.83) of competing flora. The predominant competing flora on Karmali and T-Karmali agar were identified as ESBL-producing E. coli. Thus, T-Karmali agar might be effective for determining the real prevalence of Campylobacter in raw poultry and, especially, contamination with ESBL-producing E. coli.</P>

        Soil Organic Carbon of Soil Series from 2003 to 2010 in Korea

        Soil organic carbon (SOC) of soil series is necessary to calculate soil C sequestration due to IPCC default categorized by climate regions and by soil types. The 3,400 thousand data were downloaded from agricultural soil information system and analyzed to get averages of soil order, soil series, and textual family for the three different soil management practices in Korea. The SOC content was $13.3{\pm}5.38g\;kg^{-1}$ in paddy field, $13.7{\pm}7.19g\;kg^{-1}$ in upland field, and $15.2{\pm}8.22g\;kg^{-1}$ in orchard soil, respectively. As SOC in orchard was 10% greater than that in upland, orchard must be managed with applying compost. The SOCs of inceptisols, which was largely distributed in Korea, were $13.6{\pm}5.48g\;kg^{-1}$ in paddy field, $14.1{\pm}7.38g\;kg^{-1}$ in upland field, and $15.3{\pm}8.20g\;kg^{-1}$ in orchard soil, respectively. The SOCs of alfisols were $13.6{\pm}4.96g\;kg^{-1}$ in paddy field, $13.7{\pm}6.99g\;kg^{-1}$ in upland field, and $15.6{\pm}8.59g\;kg^{-1}$ in orchard soil, respectively. The SOCs of entisols were $11.7{\pm}5.16g\;kg^{-1}$ in paddy field, $12.8{\pm}7.05g\;kg^{-1}$ in upland field, and $13.7{\pm}7.81g\;kg^{-1}$ in orchard soil, respectively. The SOCs of ultisols were $12.7{\pm}4.79g\;kg^{-1}$ in paddy field, $12.7{\pm}6.22g\;kg^{-1}$ in upland field, and $16.3{\pm}8.49g\;kg^{-1}$ in orchard soil, respectively. The fact that soils containing greater clay content in textual family had also more SOC content revealed that SOC could be also dependent on some soil properties as well as soil order. Because SOC differences among soil series representing same textual family were greater than those among textual family, SOC differences should be mainly affected by management practices such as compost application.

      • Vascular Injury in Thoracolumbar Spinal Surgeries and Role of Angiography in Early Diagnosis and Management

        STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective outcomes study. OBJECTIVE: To stress on the importance of early diagnosis with the help of angiography and proper treatment of vascular injuries occurring during thoracolumbar surgeries and to report our results. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Vascular injury is a rare but dangerous complication that can develop during thoracolumbar surgeries and if not treated properly then it can lead to severe complications including the death of the patient. METHODS: The patients included in this study were the ones who were suspected to have a possible vascular injury after a thoracolumbar surgery. Contrast enhanced computed tomography was performed for patients having clinical signs suggesting vascular injury. Among these patients, who were suspected to have active bleeding and major vessel injury on computed tomography were further subjected to angiography. RESULTS: Of the 10 cases included in the study, vascular injury was identified to be arterial in origin in 8 cases and venous in 3 cases. Among the 8 cases of identified arterial injury, angiography was performed in 4 cases, of which 3 were found to have active bleeding and were subjected to immediate intervention. Of the 4 cases in which angiography was not performed, 3 of them expired at variable postoperative periods. Complications developed in total 5 cases including 3 cases of mortality, 1 case of infection, and 1 case of cauda equina syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: The vascular injuries during thoracolumbar spinal surgeries need immediate and aggressive treatment. In arterial injuries, we can prevent serious consequences by subjecting the patient to an angiography as early as possible followed by a therapeutic embolization. In contrast, for venous injuries if hemostasis has been confirmed, then an immediate intervention may not be always required.

        국가별 친환경건축물 인증제도의 비교를 통한 운영체계 제안

        The goal of this study is to suggest an improved Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC) operational system in Korea. The scope of the study covers the identification of the GBCC operational status of five leading countries, Korea, U.S, England, Australia, and Japan, in the construction of green buildings. The analyses were mainly classified into two folds, GBCC operation system and GBCC supporting system. For the GBCC operation system, a new integrated GBCC operation structure, which includes certificating, reviewing, and upgrading processes, is suggested in lieu of the exiting plural operation structure. The current both preliminary and final review should be combined an unified organization. An online GBCC processing is recommended to save money, time, and space. For GBCC supporting system, GBCC educational programs should be developed in separate and sequential levels. Professional qualification program and its public relation are also mandatory subjects for the globalization of the GBCC. Further studies, the possibility and necessity of their integrated performances would be proceeded as well as the extension of the certification institution work.

        우리나라에 있어서 산사태 유발강우의 강도-지속시간 한계

        We examined relationship between rainfall and triggering of shallow landslides in South Korea, based on hourly rainfall data for 478 shallow landslides during 1963-2012. Rainfall intensity(I) and duration(D)relationship was analyzed to obtain the I-D threshold for the initiation of a shallow landslide using the quantile regression analysis. The I-D threshold equation from in this study is: I = 9.64D-0.27(4 ≤ D ≤ 76), where I and D are expressed in millimeters per hour and hours, respectively. In addition, rainfall criteria were proposed to predict the potential to cause landslides, based on values of I-D and cumulative rainfall derived from quantile regression analysis. Our findings may provide essential data and important evidences for the improvement of landslide warning and evacuation system.
