<P>We investigated the characteristics of a capacitive nano-accelerometer based on a telescoping carbon nanotube by means of classical molecular dynamics simulations. The position of the telescoping nanotube was controlled by an externally applied force, and feedback sensing was based on the capacitance change. The capacitance variations, which were almost linearly proportional to the applied acceleration, were monitored within an error tolerance.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Model schematics of a carbon-nanotube-based frequency tuner are presented and their vibration frequencies are analyzed by theoretical approaches such as classical molecular dynamics simulations and the continuum model equation. Outertube’s position displacement by a piezoelectric strain of a piezoelectric material induces the change of the vibrating carbon nanotube length. The desired frequencies are achieved by manipulating the electric potential applied to the piezoelectric material.</P>
Review of the Genus Exetastes (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Banchinae) from South Korea
Gyu-Won Kang,Seung-Ho Oh,Jong-Wook Lee 한국응용곤충학회 2013 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2013 No.10
Tribe Banchini isa cosmopolitan tribe comprising 228 species within 11 genera whereas only three genera (Banchus, Exetastes and Rynchobanchus) have been recorded from Korea. The species of this tribe is koinobiont endoparacitoid that parasitize exposed large caterpillars, especially those pupating in the ground. For this reason, tribe Banchini has very short ovipositor when compared with that of other tribe. It is easily distinguished from two other tribes by the nervellus which is intercepted far from the middle and by having large areolet and very short ovipositor. Genus Exetastes belonging to Banchini is a largest group with 150 worldwide species. The Eastern Palaearctic region is represented by 48 species, but only five species, E. albiger Kriechbaumer, E. fornicator (Fabricius), E. ichneumoniformis (Gravenhorst), E. ishikawensis (Uchida) and E. komarovi Kokujev have been reported from Korea. Exetastes is distinguished from two other genera by the presence of prepectal carina and by having pointed upper tooth of mandible. The objectives of this work is to review the genus Exetastes and to report two unrecorded species (E. longipes Uchida and E. sapponensis Uchida) from Korea. Here we provide the diagnosises and photographs of Korean Exetastes species.

Four fucosterol derivatives were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Hizikia fusiformis. The chemical structures of the sterols were elucidated as fucosterol (1), a mixture of 24R,28R- and 24S,28R-epoxy-24-ethylcholesterol at the ratio of 3 to 2 (2), and 24R-saringosterol (3), all of which exhibited proliferation activity on MG63 cells.
A Review of South Korean Cryptopimpla (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Banchinae) with Two New Species
Gyu-Won Kang,Jin-Kyung Choi,Jong-Wook Lee 한국응용곤충학회 2016 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2016 No.04
The Banchinae are a large cosmopolitan subfamily that includes approximately 1,700 species in 65 genera. The number of species in South Korea is still pooly known and only 18 of the 275 Eastern Palaearctic species have been reported. Most species are koinobiont endoparasitoids of Lepidopteran larvae and pupae. A few banchines also parasitize Coleoptera and Hymenoptera. This subfamily is divided into three tribes; Atrophini, Banchini and Glyptini. The former is the largest tribe with 953 species in 40 genera, and is easily distinguished from two other tribes by the tergites without oblique grooves and the nevellus which is intercepted at middle. Cryptopimpla is moderately large genus with worldwide distribution. As a member of tribe Atrophini, Cryptopimpla can be distinguished by follow: Occipital carina connected with hypostomal carina; epomia absent; lower half of mesopleuron weakly convex; ovipositor sheath 0.5-1.0 times as long as hind tibia; ovipositor tip with subapical dorsal notch. Until now the genus was not found in Korean fauna. Here we report four species, two of them are described as new to science. The description is given also for newly reported male of Cryptopimpla brevigena Kuslitzkii and C. carinifacialis Sheng. A key for South Korean species is proposed.

Aging causes thymus involution, and genes in thymus play an important role in the development of the immune system. In this study, we compared genes expressed in thymus of neonatal and peripubertal rats using annealing control primers (ACPs)-based GeneFishing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and semiquantitative reverse transcription (RT)-PCR. We identified 10 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) with 20 ACPs. Of 10 DEGs, bystin-like, collagen type V alpha 1 (COL5A1), and T-cell receptor beta-chain segment 2 (TCRB2) that are related to immune-function were detected in rat thymus. Bystin-like and TCRB2 were up-regulated, while COL5A1 was down-regulated in peripubertal thymus. Semiquantitative RT-PCR confirmed postnatal changes in expression of bystin-like, COL5A1, and TCRB2. These results suggest that bystin-like, COL5A1, and TCRB2 could regulate immune function controlled in thymus as age increases.

<P>We investigated a nanoscale inertia sensor based on telescoping carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using classical molecular dynamics simulations. The positions of the telescoping CNTs are controlled by the centrifugal forces exerted by the rotation platform and thus position shifts are determined by the capacitance between CNTs and the electrode, and the operating frequency of the CNT oscillator. This measurement system, tracking oscillations of the CNT oscillator, can be used as the sensor for numerous types of devices, such as motion detectors, accelerometers, and acoustic sensors.</P>
