Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder associated with impaired social behavior and communication, repetitive behaviors, and restricted interests. In addition to genetic factors, environmental factors such as prenatal drug exposure contribute to the development of ASD. However, how those prenatal factors induce behavioral deficits in the adult stage is not clear. To elucidate ASD pathogenesis at the molecular level, we performed a high-resolution mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomic analysis on the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of mice exposed to valproic acid (VPA) in utero, a widely used animal model of ASD. Differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in VPA-exposed mice showed significant overlap with ASD risk genes, including differentially expressed genes from the postmortem cortex of ASD patients. Functional annotations of the DEPs revealed significant enrichment in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which is dysregulated by the upregulation of Rnf146 in VPA-exposed mice. Consistently, overexpressing Rnf146 in the PFC impaired social behaviors and altered the Wnt signaling pathway in adult mice. Furthermore, Rnf146-overexpressing PFC neurons showed increased excitatory synaptic transmission, which may underlie impaired social behavior. These results demonstrate that Rnf146 is critical for social behavior and that dysregulation of Rnf146 underlies social deficits in VPA-exposed mice.

In this study, we fabricated a parallelly connected Li-ion battery/supercapacitor hybrid cell to combine the advantageous characteristics of Li-ion battery and supercapacitor, high energy density and high power density, respectively, and investigated its discharging characteristics over a wide temperature range from -40 to 25°C. At the initial state of discharging of the hybrid cell, the power was mostly provided by the supercapacitor and then the portion of the Li-ion battery was gradually increased. By installing a switching system into the hybrid cell, which controls the discharging sequence of Li-ion battery and supercapacitor, the maximum power was improved by 40% compared with non switching system. In addition at low temperatures, the power and discharging time of the hybrid cell were significantly enhanced compared to a battery-alone system. The hybrid cell is expected to be applied in electric vehicles and small domestic appliances that require high power at initial discharging state.
Metabolic Engineering of Escherichia coli for Production of Carminic Acid

In this study, we report an engineered Escherichia coli strain capable of producing carminic acid, a natural red colorant, from glucose. We optimized the type II polyketide synthase machinery and introduced cyclases ZhuIJ to produce the precursor flavokermesic acid. Biochemical analyses were performed to identify aklavinone 12-hydroxylase (DnrF) and C-glucosyltransferase (GtCGT) that are capable of performing hydroxylation and C-glycosylation which are required for carminic acid biosynthesis. Then, performing homology modeling and docking simulations for the two enzymes resulted in beneficial mutants with higher activities. Moreover, the mutant GtCGT developed above could also produce aloesin from aloesone. Finally, fed-batch fermentation of the final strain produced 0.63 ± 0.02 ㎎/L of carminic acid from glucose.
Impact of Sarcopenia in Patients with Cirrhosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Aims: Skeletal muscle wasting, sarcopenia, which is a common syndrome in chronic diseases such as liver cirrhosis, is a key feature of frailty. The association between sarcopenia and outcomes, such as complications and survival has recently been described in various patient groups. However, study results remain inconclusive. Therefore, the aim of this study was to systematically review the impact of sarcopenia on outcome in patients with cirrhosis. Methods: We conducted a systematic review (SR) and meta-analysis (MA) on the impact of sarcopenia on outcome in liver cirrhosis were performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. Results: Of the 322 studies identified, 20 were eligible according to our inclusion criteria. Most of the studies used CT to diagnose sarcopenia. Two studies used bioelectrical impedance analysis, 10 studies used skeletal muscle index and 8 studies used total psoas muscle area. Seven studies included Asian participants and the remaining 13 studies included Western participants. The prevalence rate of sarcopenia among participants was mean 48.1%, and appeared more among men with a rate of 61.6% whereas the rate was 36% for women. With respect to clinical outcomes, patients with sarcopenia had poorer survival rates and an increased risk of complications such as infection compared to those without sarcopenia. According to the analysis of race subgroup, Asians had a HR 2.45 (95% con fidence interval (CI) =1.44-4.16, p=0.001, I<sup>2</sup> =0%) of mortality whereas Westerners had a HR 1.45 (95% CI=1.002-2.09, p<0.05, I<sup>2</sup> =70%). Conclusions: Based on this SR and MA, the presence of sarcopenia is related to a poor prognosis and occurrence of cirrhotic complications and could be used for risk assessment. Moreover, Asian participants had higher mortality related to sarcopenia compared to the Western participants.

Pure gallium (Ga) is not widely studied for electrochemical CO2 reduction (EC CO2R) due to its low meltingpoint near room temperature. However, in this study, metallic Ga was selected and subjected to ECCO2R under varying conditions of applied potentials, electrolytes, concentrations, and photoirradiation. The results showed that formate, CO, and H2 were the major products produced and were dependenton the conditions used. The introduction of nickel (Ni) on the Ga electrode was found to open up longchain CAC bond coupling Fischer–Tropsch synthesis pathways, resulting in the production of longchainC2-6 hydrocarbons. This research provides new and valuable insights into the use of Ga for electrochemicalCO2 reduction and the development of Ga-based electrocatalysts for CO2 recycling.
국어 수업의 설계와 실행에서 학생 주도성 실현의 가능역 탐색

이 연구는 OECD Education 2030 보고서에 제시된 학생 주도성의 개념을 면밀히 탐구하여 그 개념과 관련된 쟁점을 정리하고, 국어교육 관련 학술지에 게재된 논문의 학습자 중심 교육이 실현된 양상 속에서 학생 주도성의 면모를 확인함으로써 국어 수업의 설계와 실행에서 학생 주도성 실현의 가능역을 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 학생 주도성은 교육 내용으로서의 주도성과 학습 과정에서의 주도성으로 나뉠 수 있었으며, 협력적 주도 학습과 집단적 주도성을 포함하는 넓은 개념임을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 국어 수업에 실현할 수 있는 가능역을 탐색하기 위해 『우리말교육현장연구』의 학습자 중심 교육을 실천한 수업 사례 21건을 분석한 결과, 수업 목표 측면에서의 시사점과 수업 방법의 설계 및 실행 측면에서의 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 학생 주도성 실현을 위해서는 국가 차원의 교육과정을 교사 차원의 교육과정으로 재구성하고, 학생들에 대한 충분한 이해를 바탕으로 학생들과 상호 협력하여 수업을 꾸려나가는 교사 전문성이 필요하다. This study aimed to explore the possibilities of student agency in Korean language classes by summarizing issues related to the concept of student agency in the OECD Education 2030 project and examining various aspects of learner-centered education in previous research on Korean language education. Student agency can be divided into agency as teaching content and agency in the learning process. Also, it is a broad concept that includes co- agency and collective agency. To explore the possibility of realizing student agency in Korean language classes, 21 cases that practiced learner-centered education in an academic journal, “Field Studies in Korean Language Education” were analyzed, and implications in terms of class goals, class design, and progress were obtained. Findings confirmed that teacher professionalism is required to reorganize the national curriculum into a teacher-level curriculum, and it is essential that teachers cooperate with students based on an adequate understanding of their needs.
