Potential effect of the global warming to the subfamily Lipotactinae (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) in China and acoustics data of Lipotactes truncatus Shi & Li, 2009

        Tao Wang,Fuming Shi 한국응용곤충학회 2020 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.23 No.1

Species in the subfamily Lipotactinae are brachypterous with a small body and have limited dispersal ability. In this study, it’s the first time to describe the male calling song of Lipotactes truncatus Shi & Li, 2009. MaxEnt was used to predict the potential geographic distribution of Lipotactinae in present-day and year 2070, in order to explore responses to global warming of this subfamily in China. As for L. truncatus, two types of calling songs are observed with the peak frequencies in the ultrasound range. With the trend of global warming, the suitable habitats of the subfamily Lipotactinae will change in three ways: i) migrate to high latitude area; ii) migrate to the coastal region of south China; iii) migrate along altitude gradients in mountains. Some species will be locked into the “sky islands”, which will accelerate speciation process, with global warming.

Synthesis of CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes on Co/Ni-covered substrate by nitrogen-atom-beam-assisted pulsed laser ablation

        Ning Xu,Aimin Wu,Fuming Li,Hao Lin,Jiada Wu,Peinan Wang,Yuancheng Du,Zhifeng Ying 한국물리학회 2004 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.44 No.32

CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes were synthesized on Co/Ni-covered Si(100) wafers using a nitrogen-atom-beam-assisted pulsed laser ablation deposition method. Transimission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy showed that nanometer-sized CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes were contained in the as-deposited lms. The co-catalyzation by the cobalt and nickel in the synthesis process is considered to play an important role in the formation of CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes. The reasons for the formation of CNx nanocrystals and nanotubes have been analyzed.

An International Freshman Exchange Program: A Trial for Engineering Design Education

        Elizabeth Webeck,Fumihiko Imamura,Fuming Wang,Hongmin Zhu,Tetsuya Nagasak 한국공학교육학회 2012 공학교육연구 Vol.15 No.4

The Engineering school of Tohoku University has been offering a Team-based Engineering Design Course to its first year students since 1996 in order to increase the level of both motivation and interest in engineering. Freshmen are required to select one of approximately 150 topics and do some research on this topic. This course also provides opportunities for students to participate in exchange programs with the University of Washington (UW) and the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB). In the Tohoku-UW exchange program, which began in 1999, between 10 and 25 students of Tohoku visit the UW annually to present the results of the subjects the school has appointed in advance in the Team-based Engineering Design Course. In the Tohoku-USTB exchange program, which began in 2007, about 15 students from each university participate in a one day meeting organized by the students themselves. They give a presentation on either the results of the subject they selected in the course, or on an engineering related topic both groups have agreed to in advance. In this paper, a detailed history, the objectives, a schedule and the budget in these unique exchange programs is introduced together with an outline of the course and its contribution to the engineering design education.

      • Expression and Characterization of RNA-dependent RNA Polymerase of Dendrolimus punctatus Tetravirus

        Zhou, Liang,Zhang, Jiamin,Wang, Xiaochun,Jiang, Hong,Yi, Fuming,Hu, Yuanyang 생화학분자생물학회 2006 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.39 No.5

Dendrolimus punctatus tetravirus (DpTV) has been identified as a new member of the genus Omegatetravirus of the family Tetraviridae that may be related serologically to Nudaurelia capensis virus ($N{\omega}V$). To establish the function of DpTV RNA genome and to better understand the mechanism of viral replication, the putative RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) domain has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant protein was purified on a Ni-chelating HisTrap affinity column and demonstrated to initiate viral RNA synthesis in a primer-independent manner but not by terminal nucleotidyle transferase activity in the presence of $Mg^{2+}$ and RNA template. Mutation of the GDD to GAA interferes with the residues at the polymerase active site and metal ions, and thus renders the polymerase inactive.

Effect of Laminated Structure on the Mechanical Properties of Reclaimed Bamboo Chopsticks-Wood Veneer Hybrid Laminated Composite

        Haiying Zhou,Xin Wei,Fuming Chen,Ge Wang,Lee M. Smith 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.7

The waste created by disposable bamboo chopsticks used in dine in restaurants, fast food, and takeaway has anincreasingly enormous impact. The object of this study was to investigate the effect of the type of laminate structure on themechanical properties of a novel type of biodegradable bamboo-wood hybrid composite processed from the reclaimedbamboo chopsticks and wood veneer hybrid laminate composite (BWHC). Four types of laminate structures were chosen forcomparison namely: bamboo chopsticks parallel laminate (Type I), bamboo chopsticks cross-laminate (Type II), bamboochopsticks-wood veneer parallel laminate (Type III), and bamboo chopsticks-wood veneer cross-laminate (Type IV). Theresults revealed that the modulus of rupture MOR of Type I>Type III>Type IV>Type II. The optimum bonding strength forBWHC was displayed by the structural Type III, followed by Types I, IV and II. The horizontal wood veneers layer betweenthe bamboo chopsticks layers effectively improve the bonding strength of BWHC which was confirmed by SEM observation. The dynamic mechanical properties of BWHC were examined by performing low velocity impact loading tests. The impactperformance of BWHC was significantly greater in the samples designed with a cross-laminate structure. Mixed failuremodels for the BWHC under the impact test were found, including debonding, delamination, fiber tensile fracture, andstructural collapse. Structural collapse was main failure model of BWHC with a cross hybrid lamination and their values ofthe total energy absorbed was far greater than BWHC with parallel laminate. This study suggest that bamboo-wood hybridcomposite with low cost, biodegradability, and excellent physical and mechanical properties can be manufactured by therecycling utilization and structural design.

Study on Static and Dynamic Reliability of Main Girder of Cable-stayed Bridge Based on Subset Simulation Method

        Zhenhao Zhang,Mengmeng Tao,Fuming Wang,Yi Yang,Lu Ke 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.2

For failure probability analysis of complex structures, the Monte Carlo method (MC) needs alarge number of samples and it is more inefficient in the case of small failure probability. Basedon the Subset Simulation (SS) and Subset Simulation Significant Sampling (SSIS), this paperanalyzes the static and dynamic reliability of main girder of cable-stayed bridge and realizesthe efficient solution of the failure probability of complex cable-stayed bridge. According toSS, MC sampling is performed on random variables. Finally, the critical values of intermediatefailure events are solved and automatically stratified, and then the failure probability of eachfailure mode is obtained by counting the number of samples in the failure domain. Accordingto SSIS method, SS method is optimized by introducing important sampling density function, which can make the sample points to fall in the structural failure areas as many as possible. The failure probability of main girder of cable-stayed bridge can be calculated more efficiently. Meanwhile, ANSYS-PDS template technique is used to perform the reliability and sensitivityanalysis of main girder of cable-stayed bridge. The failure probabilities obtained are very closeto the results of SS. The example analysis shows that for the reliability analysis of cable-stayedbridges, the sample size of SS and SSIS is 0.3% of MC, and the maximum relative difference isless than 3%. In addition the main beam section bending moment and wind speed have thegreatest impact on the reliability of the main beam of cable-stayed bridges.

Synthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate catalyzed by KF modified hydroxyapatite

        Rongxian Bai,Guangxing Li,Shu Wang,Fuming Mei,Tao Li 한국공업화학회 2011 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.17 No.4

Hydroxyapatite (HAP) modified with different metal salts were prepared by wet-impregnation method and used as a catalyst for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate via transesterification from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate (DMC). It was found that KF/HAP was a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of glycerol carbonate and the catalyst can be easily recovered and recycled. Under the conditions of molar ratio of DMC/glycerol of 2:1, the weight ratio of catalyst/glycerol of 3%, reaction time 50 min and reaction temperature 78 8C, the conversion of glycerol and the yield of glycerol carbonate reached 99.3% and 99.0%, respectively. The catalytic performance of KF/HAP is comparable to the homogenous catalyst of KF and better than that of K_2CO_3.

Rectal cancer-derived exosomes activate the nuclear factor kappa B pathway and lung fibroblasts by delivering integrin beta-1

        Qingkun Gao,Ke An,Zhaoya Gao,Yanzhao Wang,Changmin Ding,Pengfei Niu,Fuming Lei The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2023 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.27 No.4

Numerous studies have revealed the importance of tumor-derived exosomes in rectal cancer (RC). This study aims to explore the influence of tumor-derived exosomal integrin beta-1 (ITGB1) on lung fibroblasts in RC along with underlying mechanisms. Exosome morphology was observed using a transmission electron microscope. Protein levels of CD63, CD9, ITGB1, p-p65 and p65 were detected using Western blot. To determine ITGB1's mRNA expression, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used. Moreover, levels of interleukin (IL)-8, IL-1β, and IL-6 in cell culture supernatant were measured via commercial ELISA kits. ITGB1 expression was increased in exosomes from RC cells. The ratio of p-p65/p65 as well as levels of interleukins in lung fibroblasts was raised by exosomes derived from RC cells, while was reduced after down-regulation of exosomal ITGB1. The increased ratio of p-p65/p65 as well as levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines caused by exosomes from RC cells was reversed by the addition of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) inhibitor. We concluded that the knockdown of RC cells-derived exosomal ITGB1 repressed activation of lung fibroblasts and the NF-κB pathway in vitro.

      • Energy factor of high-strength-steel frames with energy dissipation bays under repeated near-field earthquakes

        Ke Ke,Michael C.H. Yam,Xu-Hong Zhou,Fuming Wang,Fei Xu 국제구조공학회 2021 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.40 No.3

This investigation contributes to quantification of the inelastic seismic demands for high strength steel moment resisting frames equipped with energy dissipation bays (HSSF-EDBs) subjected to seismic sequences composed of repeated near-field ground motions. The emphasis is placed on the energy factor demand. A statistical examination of a database with more than eighty million energy factor demands of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) oscillators representing HSSF-EDBs responding in different yielding stages is conducted. The research findings show that in the damage-control stage, the energy factor which quantifies the peak seismic demand of a HSSF-EDB structure is insensitive to the repeated near-field earthquake motions. In contrast, a remarkable elevation of the energy factor is observed when oscillators characterising HSSF-EDBs progress into the ultimate stage. In addition, an increasing post-yielding stiffness ratio of the nonlinear force-displacement response in the damage-control stage may produce a detrimental effect on HSSF-EDBs progressing into the ultimate stage under repeated near-field earthquakes due to the corresponding evident increase of seismic demands. A nonlinear regression model quantifying the mean energy factor demand of the system under repeated near-field earthquake motions is proposed to facilitate performance-based seismic design of HSSF-EDBs.
