Body temperature is controlled by thermoregulatory center of the hypothalamus. We report a case of 24 years old man with central fever. He was subjected to a partial excision of pituitary tumor compressing optic chiasm four years ago. He has received hormonal therapy for panhypothyroidism after removal of pituitary tumor. And He received gamma knife operation for partially contrast-enhancing masses in suprasellar and both hypothalamic areas that is probably postoperatively remnant or recurrent tumor of pituitary adenoma. One year after gamma knife operation, he presented with a febrile syndrome of unknown origin including rhabdomyolysis. All usual investigations proved negative. We diagnosed him as central fever with rhabdomyolysis. He received medical ICU care with cooling bed, ice pack. And his symptom improved. Postoperative hyperthermia may result following resection of the pituitary tumor. When central fever is suspected taking note of past history, a quick recognition of course of fever can help reduce the using of unnecessary antibiotics and hospital stay.

<P>The process design of profile ring rolling for a large-scale turbine diaphragm was made using the calculation method and three dimensional finite element method (FEM). The design criteria are to achieve uniform distributions of strain and temperature, and defect-free profiled ring products. Based on the compression test results of the low alloy steel, deformation processing map was generated using the combination of the dynamic materials model (DMM) and stable or unstable forming criteria. The processing map was used to determine the optimum ring rolling temperature and feed rate of the mandrel. FEM analysis was simulated to predict the formation of rolling defects and deformed shape in the profile ring rolled diaphragm product. Finally, optimum process design to obtain a sound large-scale turbine diaphragm without forming defects was suggested and its validation was made by the comparison between the experimental data and FE analysis results.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Pyrolysis is an important conversion process which can produce high value-added light oils from unconventional oils such as oil sand bitumen and extra heavy oil, thus it is important to understand the characteristics and kinetics of pyrolysis for unconventional oils. In this study, the nonisothermal pyrolysis of Athabasca oil sand bitumen and its maltene and asphaltene fractions was analyzed using a thermogravimetric analyzer, and activation energies for pyrolysis were determined by the model-free isoconversional Friedman analysis. The analysis suggests that the pyrolysis of oil sand bitumen consists of reactions for volatilization of maltene fraction and cracking of maltene and asphaltene fractions. The pyrolysis behavior of oil sand bitumen was well described based on the kinetic parameters estimated by the distributed activation energy model for maltene and asphaltene fractions, which is beneficial to effective utilization and development of pyrolysis processes of oil sand bitumen.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Nonisothermal pyrolysis of oil sand bitumen and its maltene and asphaltene fractions. </LI> <LI> Determination of activation energies by model-free isoconversional Friedman analysis. </LI> <LI> Prediction of pyrolysis behavior of oil sand bitumen using kinetic parameters. </LI> </UL> </P>

The high dental treatment cost has been considered as one of the major reasons for inappropriate dental treatment in Korea. The aim of this study was to investigate the opinions of expansion of National Health Insurance (NHI) in dental treatment fields not covered with NHI and buying private dental insurance. This survey was carried out targeting 266 adults from their 30s to 50s with convenience sampling. The higher orders in stress of dental treatment cost were orthodontic treatment, dental implant, prosthodontic treatment, and caries treatment not covered with NHI. The higher orders in needs of expansion of NHI were caries treatment not covered with NHI, prosthodontic treatment, and orthodontic treatment. The agreement percentages with age restriction in NHI were scaling 57.1%, denture 23.3%, implant 14.3%, respectively. The subjective oral health had impact on the stress of dental treamtent cost and expansion on NHI. Although only 8.3% subjects had private dental insurance, 68.4% of the subjects had positive opinions buying private dental insurance. The correlation coefficients between stress of dental treatment cost and buying private dental insurance were implant 0.408, caries treatment not covered with NHI 0.404, denture 0.394, crown and bridge 0.375, and orthodontic treatment 0.313. Expansion of NHI in dental treatment and development of private dental insurance was suggested to treat dental disease in appropriate time.

In this paper, we have reported the expression of immune-related gene in a new embryonic cell line (FGBC8) which was established from olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) embryos. To explore the cell biotechnological applicability, the FGBC8 cells were incubated with the several mitogens such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS), polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly I:C), flagellin, and interferon (IFN)-γ. After incubation, the expression of immune-related gene was observed in FGBC8 cells through the quantitative real-time PCR. Our results indicate that FGBC8 cells will serve as a valuable research tool for investigating host-pathogen interactions as well as cell biotechnological applications.

Primary cell culture is a sufficient method frequently used to study the cellular properties and mechanisms of isolated cells in a controlled environment. In this study, an embryonic cell line (FGBC8) derived from the blastula stages of embryos of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus was developed. Furthermore, conditions for optimal long-term maintenance of this primary embryonic cell culture were investigated. Morphologically, FGBC8 cells were composed primarily of epithelial-like cells. FGBC8 cells were subcultured for >160 passages over ~830 days. The doubling time of FGBC8 cells was 73.8 h, and the modal diploid chromosome number was 48. FGBC8 cells transfected with green fluorescence protein (GFP)-expression plasmid exhibited a strong signal 48 h after transfection. Consequently, we demonstrated that fish serum is a crucial supplement for the long-term survival and maintenance of comparable morphology in these primary embryonic cells. Our results can be used as a guide for primary embryonic cell cultures for other fish species and may be useful for cell biotechnological applications.
