Experimental investigations on the resistance performance of a high-speed partial air cushion supported catamaran

Yang, Jinglei,Lin, Zhuang,Li, Ping,Guo, Zhiqun,Sun, Hanbing,Yang, Dongmei The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2020 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.12 No.-

The partial air cushion supported catamaran (PACSCAT) is a novel Surface Effect Ship (SES) and possesses distinctive resistance performance due to the presence of planing bottom. In this paper, the design of PACSCAT and air cushion system are described in detail. Model tests were carried out for Froude numbers ranging from 0.1 to 1.11, the focus is on the influence of air cushion system on resistance characteristics. Drag-reducing effect of air cushion system was proved by means of contrast tests in cuhionborne and non-cushionborne mode. Wave-making characteristics reflect that the PACSCAT would eventually enter planing regime, in which the air could just escape under the seals and the hull body could operate in a steady state. To acquire different air cushion pressure, air flow rate and leakage height were adjusted during tests. Experimental results show that the resistance performance in planing regime would decrease evidently as the increased air flow rate, however, the scheme with medium leakage height presents the best resistance performance in the hump region.

Ginsenoside Rh2 inhibiting HCT116 colon cancer cell proliferation through blocking PDZ-binding kinase/T-LAK cell-originated protein kinase

        Yang, Jianjun,Yuan, Donghong,Xing, Tongchao,Su, Hongli,Zhang, Shengjun,Wen, Jiansheng,Bai, Qiqiang,Dang, Dongmei The Korean Society of Ginseng 2016 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.40 No.4

Background: Ginsenoside Rh2 (GRh2) is the main bioactive component in American ginseng, a commonly used herb, and its antitumor activity had been studied in previous studies. PDZ-binding kinase/T-LAK cell-originated protein kinase (PBK/TOPK), a serine/threonine protein kinase, is highly expressed in HCT116 colorectal cancer cells. Methods: We examined the effect of GRh2 on HCT116 cells ex vivo. Next, we performed in vitro binding assay and in vitro kinase assay to search for the target of GRh2. Furthermore, we elucidated the underlying molecular mechanisms for the antitumor effect of GRh2 ex vivo and in vivo. Results: The results of our in vitro studies indicated that GRh2 can directly bind with PBK/TOPK and GRh2 also can directly inhibit PBK/TOPK activity. Ex vivo studies showed that GRh2 significantly induced cell death in HCT116 colorectal cancer cells. Further mechanistic study demonstrated that these compounds inhibited the phosphorylation levels of the extracellular regulated protein kinases 1/2 (ERK1/2) and (H3) in HCT116 colorectal cancer cells. In vivo studies showed GRh2 inhibited the growth of xenograft tumors of HCT116 cells and inhibited the phosphorylation levels of the extracellular regulated protein kinases 1/2 and histone H3. Conclusion: The results indicate that GRh2 exerts promising antitumor effect that is specific to human HCT116 colorectal cancer cells through inhibiting the activity of PBK/TOPK.

Association of Alexithymia With Positive Symptoms in Chinese Chronic Schizophrenia Patients With and Without Obesity

        Yang Tian,Huixia Zhou,Dongmei Wang,Xiangyang Zhang 대한신경정신의학회 2023 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.20 No.8

Objective A growing body of research suggests the presence of alexithymia (a form of social cognitive impairment) in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ), which may be related to their psychopathological symptoms. Patients with SCZ exhibit high rates of obesity. Interestingly, studies of the general population have found that alexithymia acts a pivotal role in the development and maintenance of obesity. However, little is known regarding the relationship between obesity, alexithymia, and clinical symptoms in SCZ patients. The study was aim to explore the relationship between obesity, alexithymia, and clinical symptoms in SCZ patients. Methods Demographic and clinical data were collected from 507 patients with chronic SCZ. Their symptoms were assessed with the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), and alexithymia was assessed with the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS).Results Compare with nonobese SCZ patients, obese SCZ patients scored higher on PANSS positive symptoms, TAS total score, difficulty identifying feelings, and difficulty describing feelings (all p<0.05). Correlation analysis revealed a significant association between difficulty identifying feelings and positive symptoms in SCZ patients. Further correlation analysis showed that this association was only present in obese SCZ patients (p<0.05).Conclusion Obesity may moderate the association between alexithymia and positive symptoms in chronic SCZ patients.

Genetic homogeneity between populations of cotton bollworm from Xinjiang, China

        Dongmei Wang,Xianming Yang,Haiqiang Li,Akedan Wuwaishi,Ruifeng Ding,Haobin Li,Hongsheng Pan,Jian Liu,Yao Xu,Yan-Hui Lu 한국응용곤충학회 2018 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.21 No.1

We studied the population structure of cotton bollworm (CBW), Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera:Noctuidae), in Xinjiang, the largest cotton-growing region in China, using a fragment of cytochrome c oxidasesubunit I (COI) gene. Alignments of all 192 COI sequences revealed 28 haplotypes including 23 in southernXinjiang, 5 in eastern Xinjiang and 13 in northern Xinjiang. Negative and significant values of neutrality tests forthe Tajima's D and Fu's FS parameters, combined with the high values of haplotype diversity (Hd), low values ofnucleotide diversity (π) and a high number of low frequency haplotypes indicated a recent demographic expansionof Xinjiang CBW populations. Analysis of molecular variation (AMOVA) indicated low and non-significantgenetic structure, regardless of geographical scale or crop, with most of genetic variation occurringwithin local CBW populations. Pairwise FST analyses also indicated low genetic differentiation. This demographicevent and high gene flow could be responsible for the low genetic structure currently found. CBW populations inXinjiang need to be considered as one panmictic unit in its management, especially for the design of refuges todelay the development of resistance by this migratory pest to transgenic Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) cotton.

Performance Assessment of InSAR-Based Vertical Displacement Monitoring of Sluices in Coastal Soft Soil Area

        Xing Yang,Dongmei Wang,Yongping Xu,Miao Hou,Zhihuan Wang 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.1

Sluices are main flood control infrastructures in coastal areas, where soft rock and soft soil are widely distributed. In soft soil areas, the vertical displacement of sluice is common, which is the main factor affecting the sluice safety. So, it is very important for sluice safety control according to the prototypical observations on deformation. Considering some drawbacks of leveling, such as it can only provide a limited number of points and requires time-consuming field work, this paper evaluates the performance of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR)-based method in monitoring long-term vertical displacement deformations of sluices.Taking 12 sluices in Northern Jiangsu, China as an example, 129 Sentinel-1 C-band VV-polarizatio ascending SAR images that span the period from April 2015 to January 2020 were used to monitor their vertical displacement deformations. The leveling results are made to verify the accuracy and reliability of Permanent Scatterer InSAR (PSInSAR) method. The validation indicates good agreement between PSInSAR results and leveling results. Considering the higher accuracy of leveling, PSInSAR method is more suitable as an auxiliary technology besides leveling method to focus on the early warning of sluice deformation risk events.

Arabidopsis MiR396 Mediates the Development of Leaves and Flowers in Transgenic Tobacco

        Fengxi Yang,Gang Liang,Dongmei Liu,Diqiu Yu 한국식물학회 2009 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.52 No.5

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are single-stranded, noncoding small RNAs that usually function as posttranscriptional negative regulators by base pairing to target genes. They are pivotal to plant development. MiR396 is conserved among plant species and is predicted to target GRF (growth-regulating factor) genes in Arabidopsis. Here, overexpression of ath-miR396 in tobacco reduced the levels of three NtGRF-like genes containing an miR396 match site. Furthermore, its elevated expression resulted in a small, narrow leaf phenotype similar to that found with the Arabidopsis grf1grf2grf3 triple mutant. We also demonstrated that 35S:MIR396a transgenic plants were defective in the four whorls of floral organs. These results provide a link between the miR396- mediated regulatory pathway of NtGRF-like gene expression and the developmental processes for leaves and flowers in tobacco.

Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis Correlates With Long COVID-19 at One-Year After Discharge

        Zhang Dongmei,Zhou Yaya,Ma Yanling,Chen Ping,Tang Jian,Yang Bohan,Li Hui,Liang Mengyuan,Xue YuE,Liu Yao,Zhang Jianchu,Wang Xiaorong 대한의학회 2023 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.38 No.15

Background: Long coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in recovered patients (RPs) is gradually recognized by more people. However, how long it will last and the underlining mechanism remains unclear. Methods: We conducted a prospective follow-up study to evaluate the long-term symptoms and clinical indices of RPs at one-year after discharge from Union Hospital, Wuhan, China between December 2020 to May 2021. We also performed the 16S rRNA sequencing of stool samples from RPs and healthy controls (HCs) and analyzed the correlation between the gut microbiota and long COVID-19. Results: In total, 187 RPs were enrolled, among them, 84 (44.9%) RPs reported long COVID-19 symptoms at one-year after discharge. The most common long-term symptoms were cardiopulmonary symptoms, including chest tightness after activity (39/187, 20.9%), palpitations on exercise (27/187, 14.4%), sputum (21/187, 11.2%), cough (15/187, 8.0%) and chest pain (13/187, 7.0%), followed by systemic symptoms including fatigue (34/187, 18.2%) and myalgia (20/187, 10.7%), and digestive symptoms including constipation (14/187, 7.5%), anorexia (13/187, 7.0%), and diarrhea (8/187, 4.3%). Sixty-six (35.9%) RPs presented either anxiety or depression (42/187 [22.8%] and 53/187 [28.8%] respectively), and the proportion of anxiety or depression in the long symptomatic group was significantly higher than that in the asymptomatic group (41/187 [50.6%] vs. 25/187 [24.3%]). Compared with the asymptomatic group, scores of all nine 36-Item Short Form General Health Survey domains were lower in the symptomatic group (all P < 0.05). One hundred thirty RPs and 32 HCs (non-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infected subjects) performed fecal sample sequencing. Compared with HCs, symptomatic RPs had obvious gut microbiota dysbiosis including significantly reduced bacterial diversities and lower relative abundance of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)-producing salutary symbionts such as Eubacterium_hallii_group, Subdoligranulum, Ruminococcus, Dorea, Coprococcus, and Eubacterium_ventriosum_group. Meanwhile, the relative abundance of Eubacterium_hallii_group, Subdoligranulum, and Ruminococcus showed decreasing tendencies between HCs, the asymptomatic group, and the symptomatic group. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the presence of long COVID-19 which correlates with gut microbiota dysbiosis in RPs at one-year after discharge, indicating gut microbiota may play an important role in long COVID-19.

Comparison of Gayal (Bos frontalis) and Yunnan Yellow Cattle (Bos taurus): In vitro Dry Matter Digestibility and Gas Production for a Range of Forages

        Xi, Dongmei,Wanapat, Metha,Deng, Weidong,He, Tianbao,Yang, Zhifang,Mao, Huaming Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.8

Three male Gayal, two years of age and with a mean live weight of $203{\pm}26$ kg, and three adult Yunnan Yellow Cattle, with a mean live weight of $338{\pm}18$ kg were fed a ration of pelleted lucerne hay and used to collect rumen fluid for in vitro measurements of digestibilities and gas production from fermentation of a range of forages. The forages were: bamboo stems, bamboo twigs, bamboo leaves, rice straw, barley straw, annual ryegrass hay, smooth vetch hay and pelleted lucerne hay. There were significant (p<0.05) effects of the source of rumen fluid on in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) and gas production during fermentation of forage. For the roughage of lowest quality (bamboo stems and rice straw), gas production during fermentation was higher (p<0.05) in the presence of rumen fluid from Gayal than Yunnan Yellow Cattle. Differences for these parameters were found for the better quality roughages with gas production being enhanced in the presence of rumen fluid from Yunnan Yellow Cattle. Moreover, the IVDMD of investigated roughages was significantly higher (p<0.05) in Gayal than Yunnan Yellow Cattle. The results offer an explanation for the positive live weight gains recorded for Gayal foraging in their natural environment where the normal diet consists of poor quality roughages.
