This study evaluated the effect of the corrosion inhibitors on the corrosion control performance in drinking water distribution system. A phosphate-zinc based inhibitor formulated was for the efficient corrosion control in drinking water distribution system. In a continuous-circulation test, 99% reduction in corrosion rate was achieved. The optimum concentration of the corrosion inhibitor was found to be 2.2㎎ PO₄/L. The effect of the corrosion inhibitor was significant for the pipes of carbon steel, galvanized steel and copper, but less for that of stainless steel. The corrosion inhibitor can be an effective cure for corrosion and red water problems by prevention the old pipes from further corrosion. Tap water in Mokpo and Kwangyang were more corrosive than the water in the rest of 4 other regions(Seoul, Pohang, Pusan, Puyeo). Tap water in Pusan was high in various ionic concentrations in general. The corrosion inhibitor reduced the corrosion rate by 76-94%, depending on the origin of the tap water.

Background : Sodium Hyaluronate has been found to be deficient in the synovial fluid of patients with osteoarthritis. We evaluate the effect of intraarticular Sodium Hyaluronate(Hyruan®) on the knee joint pain in patients with osteoarthritis. Method : Ten patients with osteoarthritis of the knee were participated in this study. Sodium Hyaluronate was injected into knee joints weekly for 5 weeks consecutively. Clinical evaluations were performed using visual analogue scale(VAS) for pain, tenderness and swollen joint counts weekly for the first 5 weeks and at 10 weeks postinjection. Result : VAS, tenderness and swollen joint were all significantly improved from 2 weeks to 10 weeks. There was no complication, except pain on injection site in two patients. Conclusion : Intraarticular injection of Sodium Hyaluronate has been shown to be effective on the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Fiber-reinforced composite materials are used in a wide variety of applications in the advanced field of industries such as electric clutch, motor, car, space and aviation etc. It is well known that the brake lining made of fiber-reinforced composites show excellent friction and wear properties compared to the conventional asbestos brakes and also are known to have high absorption energy and excellent high temperature properties in braking. In order to endow high friction and wear stability to the commercial brake lining, the waste fiber such as cotton, PAN, PET, nylon,kevlar, glass and it's binary mixture fibers were used the fiber reinforcements. The fiber/phenolic resin system has been carried out by preform molding method. The friction tester was especially designed and prepared for evaluation of frictional properties such as friction coefficient and stability. The physical properties of fiber reinforced composites were investigated in terms of the 3-point bending strength, the properties of friction, and morphology. The results obtained from the work are as follows ; 1. The friction properties of the cotton fiber reinforced composites were similar to those of the commercial brake linings, but in the cases of reinforcement of kevlar, glass. we can improve those properties, 2. The proper amount of organic and inorganic fiber mixtures can improve the properties of friction and the mechanical properties, 3. It is more desirable to manufacture hybrid fiber reinforced composites because single cotton or synthetic fiber reinforced composites aren't improved frictional properties, and 4. On evaluating frictional properties of waste fiber reinforced composites, frictional properties of waste fiber reinforced composites are superior to commercial disc lining. Therefore we can confirm practical possibility of waste fiber reinforced disc lining.

<P>ABSTRACT: </P><P>The genetic contribution of 51 broodstock, comprising 29 females and 22 males, reared at Hiroshima City Marine Products Promotion Center for the production of stocked black sea bream was monitored during two consecutive years using seven microsatellite DNA loci. The high discrimination ability of these markers was reflected in the polymorphic identification content (<I>PIC</I> = 0.831), the exclusion probability (<I>Q</I> ∼ 1), and the low probability of identity index (<I>I</I> = 3.635<SUP>−10</SUP>). The total number of breeders contributing to the mating process was estimated at 32 (62.7%) in 2000 and 30 (58.8%) in 2001. On pedigree reconstruction, 69.3% of the offspring were successfully assigned to a single broodstock pair. Loss of alleles accounted for 16.9% during seed production; nevertheless, 90.9% of males and 69.0% of females participated in the mating process. Based on microsatellite genetic tagging, 58.9% of the fish sampled during the two months after release were identified as hatchery stock, presenting no significant differences from wild conspecifics in either fork length or body weight.</P>
