Renal cell carcinoma (RCC), one of the most common kidney cancers, has a poor prognosis. Epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a hallmark of carcinoma invasion and metastasis. Several studies have examined the molecular regulation of EMT, but the relationship between histone demethylases and EMT is little understood. In this study, we investigated the role of retinoblastoma-binding protein-2 (RBP2), a histone demethylase that is highly expressed in RCC and is positively correlated with poor RCC prognosis in the regulation of EMT. We found that ectopic overexpression of RBP2 can induce cancer stem cell-like (CSC) phenotypes through EMT in RCC cells by converting them to a more mesenchymal phenotype. This results in increased resistance to apoptosis, which leads to enhanced tumor growth in xenograft models. Together, our data show that RBP2 is an epigenetic regulator that has an important role in the initiation of CSC phenotypes through EMT, leading to tumor progression. RBP2 is also a novel biomolecule for RCC diagnosis, and prognosis and may be a therapeutic target.

For the first time, the finite Fourier integral transform approach is extended to analytically solve the free vibration problem of rectangular thin plates with two adjacent edges rotationally-restrained and others free. Based on the fundamental transform theory, the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) of the plate is converted to ordinary linear algebraic simultaneous equations without assuming trial function for deflection, which reduces the mathematical complexity caused by both the free corner and rotationally-restrained edges. By coupling with mathematical manipulation, the analytical solutions are elegantly achieved in a straightforward procedure. In addition, the vibration characteristics of plates under classical boundary conditions are also studied by choosing different rotating fixed coefficients. Finally, more than 400 comprehensive analytical solutions were well validated by finite element method (FEM) results, which can be served as reference data for further studies. The advantages of the present method are that it does not need to preselect the deformation function, and it has general applicability to various boundary conditions. The presented approach is promising to be further extended to solve the static and dynamic problems of moderately thick plates and thick plates.
Endothelial Progenitor Cells Correlated with Oxidative Stress after Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Purpose: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) play a key role in tissue repair and regeneration. Previous studies have shown that infusion of human umbilical cord blood-derived endothelial colony-forming cells improves outcomes in mice subjected to experimentaltraumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the efficiency of cell transplantation is not satisfactory. Oxidative stress plays a significant role in the survival of transplanted cells following ischemic reperfusion injury. This observational clinical study investigatedthe correlation between the number of circulating EPCs and plasma levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malonyldialdehyde(MDA). Materials and Methods: Peripheral blood samples were collected from 20 patients with mild TBI at day-1, day-2, day-3, day-4, and day-7 post TBI. The number of circulating EPCs and the plasma levels of SOD and MDA were measured. Results: The average of circulating EPCs in TBI patients decreased initially, but increased thereafter, compared with healthy controls. Plasma levels of SOD in TBI patients were significantly lower than those in healthy controls at day-4 post-TBI. MDA levels showed no difference between the two groups. Furthermore, when assessed on day-7 post-TBI, the circulating EPC number were correlated with the plasma levels of SOD and MDA. Conclusion: These results suggest that the number of circulating EPCs is weakly to moderately correlated with plasma levels of SOD and MDA at day-7 post-TBI, which may offer a novel antioxidant strategy for EPCs transplantation after TBI.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in patients treated with radicalnephroureterectomy (RNU) for upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). Materials and Methods: We collected data from 180 patients who were treated with RNU from 2005 to 2013 at our institution. TheKaplan-Meier method with log-rank test and Cox proportional hazards regression models were used for univariate and multivariateanalyses. Results: LVI was present in 28 patients (15.6%), which was associated with higher pathological tumor stage (p<0.001), tumor necrosis(p=0.012), lymph node metastasis (p=0.017) and multifocality (p=0.012). On multivariate analysis, LVI was an independentprognostic factor of recurrence-free survival [RFS: hazard ratio (HR)=2.954; 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.539–5.671; p=0.001]and cancer-specific survival (CSS: HR=3.530; 95% CI=1.701–7.325; p=0.001) in all patients. In patients with node-negative UTUC,LVI was also a significant predictor of RFS (HR=3.732; 95% CI 1.866–7.464; p<0.001) and CSS (HR=3.825; 95% CI=1.777–8.234;p=0.001). Conclusion: LVI status was an independent predictor in patients with UTUC who underwent RNU. The estimate of LVI couldhelp physicians identify high-risk patients and make a better medication regimen of adjuvant chemotherapy.

Dioxopiperazine alkaloids, 12R,13S 1), fumitremorgin C (2), andbrevianamide F (3), were isolated from the marine-derived fungus Pseudallescheria, and the absolutestereostructures of compounds 1 -3 were elucidated on the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence.Compounds 1 -3 showed an antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus,and multidrug-resistant . The MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) values of compounds 1 -3 were125 g/mL for all strains. Nonlinear response analysis of variable speed rotor system under maneuvering flight

Maneuverability is one of the important tactical and technical indexes of fighter aircraft. In this paper, the finite element method is used to establish a dynamic model of the rotor system that can consider arbitrary maneuvering flight form and rotor speed variation during the flight, and the vibration characteristic of the dynamic model is investigated in detail. In addition, the nonlinear forces caused by bearings and oil film are also considered. The Newmark-β method combined with Newton-Raphson method is adopted to solve the dynamic equations. The influences of speed variation, rolling, pitching, and yawing maneuver loads on the vibration responses of the rotor system are also evaluated.
