Influence of Motives and Tourism on Culture
Xuan Tran,Bao Le,Minh Nguyen,Cuong Tran,Anh Le 한국문화관광학회 2015 문화관광연구 Vol.17 No.2
As the challenge of tourist arrivals affects culture differences, a motive integrated culture model is becoming an effective strategy to study culture tourism. This study examines the Lewis model (2006) integrated with McClelland's theory (1985) and culture tourism to explore the effects of motives and tourism on culture. The three motives in McClelland's theory are achievement, affiliation, and power and the three culture types in Lewis model are linear-active type, multi-active type, and reactive type. In terms of culture, McClelland's theory is applied to explain the rise and fall of a culture and Lewis continues to explore the culture after falling. As a result, the Lewis model comprises of one strong culture; linear-active and the other culture is divided into two parts: one is friendly; multi-active and the other is alien; re-active. This study attempts to use Structure Equation Modeling (SEM) to build a model in which the achievement motive explains the rise culture and the power motive explain the alien culture. Both of the rise culture and the alien culture affect the friendly culture. In addition, the affiliation motive that contributes to the fall culture that is related to tourists who travel for pleasure only.

Evidence shows that tobacco advertising and promotion activities may increase tobacco consumption and usage, especially in youth. Despite the regulation on prohibiting advertisement of any tobacco product, tobacco advertisement and promotion activities are still common in Vietnam. This article presents current exposure to tobacco advertising and promotion (TAP) among school children aged 13 to 15 years in Vietnam in 2014 and potential influencing factors. Data from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2014 in Vietnam covering 3,430 school aged children were used. Both descriptive and analytical statistics were carried out with Stata 13 statistical software. Binary logistic regression was applied to explain the exposure to TAP among youth and examine relationships with individual factors. A significance level of p<0.05 and sampling weights were used in all of the computations. In the past 30 days, 48.6% of the students experienced exposure to at least 1 type of tobacco advertising or promotion. Wearing or otherwise using products related to tobacco was the most exposure TAP type reported by students (22.3%). The internet (22.1), points of sales (19.2) and social events (11.5) were three places that students aged 13-15 frequently were exposed to TAP. Binary logistic results showed that gender (female vs male) (OR = 0.61, 95%CI: 0.52 - 0.71), susceptibility to smoking (OR = 2.12, 95%CI: 1.53 - 2.92), closest friends' smoked (OR = 1.43, 95%CI: 1.2 - 1.7) and parents smoking status (OR = 2.83, 95%CI: 1.6 - 5.01) were significantly associated with TAP exposure among school-aged children. The research findings should contribute to effective implementation of measures for preventing and controlling tobacco use among students aged 13-15 in Viet Nam.

Dynamic soil-pile interaction is the main concern in the design of group piles under earthquake loadings. The lateral resistance of the pile group under dynamic loading becomes different from that of a single pile due to the group pile effect. However, this aspect has not yet been properly studied for the pile group under seismic loading condition. Thus, in this study the group pile effect was evaluated by performing a series of dynamic centrifuge tests on 3×3 group pile in dry loose sand. The multiplier coefficients for ultimate lateral resistance and subgrade reaction modulus were suggested to obtain the p-y curve of the group pile. The suggested coefficients were verified by performing the nonlinear dynamic analyses, which adopted Beam on Nonlinear Winkler Foundation model. The predicted behavior of the pile group showed the reasonable agreement compared with the results of the centrifuge tests under sinusoidal wave and artificial wave.

Objectives: The average alcohol consumption per capita among Vietnamese adults has consistently increased. Although alcoholrelated disorders have been extensively studied, there is a paucity of research shedding light on this issue among Internet users. The study aimed to examine the severity of alcohol-related disorders and other associated factors that might predispose individuals towards alcohol usage in a sample of youths recruited online. Methods: An online cross-sectional study was conducted with 1,080 Vietnamese youths. A standardized questionnaire was used. Respondent-driven sampling was applied to recruit participants. Multivariate logistic and Tobit regressions were utilized to identify the associated factors. Results: About 59.5% of the males and 12.7% of the total youths declared that they were actively using alcohol. From the total sample, a cumulative total of 32.3% of the participants were drinking alcohol, with 21.8% and 25.0% of the participants being classified as drinking hazardously and binge drinkers, respectively. The majority of the participants (60.7%) were in the pre-contemplative stage. Conclusions: A high prevalence of hazardous drinking was recognized among online Vietnamese youths. In addition, we found relationships between alcohol use disorder and other addictive disorders, such as tobacco smoking and water-pipe usage. Our results highlighted that the majority of the individuals are not receptive to the idea of changing their alcohol habits, and this would imply that there ought to be more government effort towards the implementation of effective alcohol control policies.

Pd-incorporated Zr-based metal–organic framework containing sulfone groups, named Pd(II)BUT-11, wassuccessfully prepared by dispersing the sulfone-functionalized MOF in Pd(OAc)2 solution. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, N2 isotherm sorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetricanalysis were applied to determine the features of the Pd-incorporated MOF. In the catalyticstudies, Pd(II)@BUT-11 was shown to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for synthesizing various stilbenederivatives via the cross-coupling Heck reaction with DABCO-derived deep eutectic solvent (DES) asa green solvent. Notably, the catalyst and the solvent could be recovered and reused, with their activityand structure remaining stable throughout several trials. The method provides an alternative solution tothe conventional catalysts and solvents, resulting in a green and efficient stilbene synthesis process. Furthermore, the stilbenes were separated by extraction with ethyl acetate due to the low solubility ofDES with this solvent.

Magnetic skyrmions, topological spin textures, have been intensively studied in spintronics as a prospective information carrier due to distinct topological features [1, 2]. Various skyrmion-related devices have been proposed including a logic device, a neuromorphic cell and a memory device. One of these proposals is a skyrmion racetrack memory, where information is encoded by magnetic skyrmions in a magnetic racetrack. Skyrmion racetrack memory device has attracted much attention as a promising alternative to the next-generation memory technology based on high density, high-speed and low power operation and topological stability. Skyrmion racetrack memory requires four core operations: electrical creation, deletion, shift and detection of isolated skyrmions. Therefore, the implementation of the four operations in a single device is the important experimental challenge for realizing skyrmion racetrack memory. Here, we demonstration of three core operations, skyrmion creation/deletion/shift, is a single three-terminal device and also present a proof-of-concept operation of skyrmion racetrack memory.
