This study was performed to investigate the effects of acteoside and isoacteoside isolated from Clerodendron trichotomum Thunberg on melanin production in B16 melanoma cells. In DPPH radical scavenging activity, acteoside and isoacteoside had a potent anti-oxidant activity in a dose-dependent manner. Both acteoside and isoacteoside dose-dependently inhibited silica-induced ROS (reactive oxygen species) generation in B16 melanoma cells. They significantly inhibited tyrosinase activity and melanin production in MSH-stimulated B16 melanoma cells. The inhibitory effect of acteoside was more potent than that of isoacteosidee. In Western blot of tyrosinase, acteoside inhibited MSH-induced tyrosinase expression in B16 melanoma cells, which is related to the inhibitory action of acteoside on tyrosinase activity and melanin production. These results show that acteoside and isoacteoside from Clerodendron trichotomum Thunberg has a potent antioxidant activity and whitening activity. The underlying mechanism of acteoside on whitening activity may be due to the inhibition of tyrosinase activity and tyrosinase expression.

The objective of this study is to provide the basic information for developing a high-value ginseng product using ginseng saponin and prosapogenin. In order to achieve such aim, Ginsenoside compositions of black ginseng (BG) extracts with various solvent conditions were examined by HPLC. The total saponin and the prosapogenin content of 95% ethyl alcohol extract were higher than that of the either 50% ethyl alcohol extract or distilled water extract. As a result, the order of the total saponin and the prosapogenin content was 1) 95% ethyl alcohol, 2) 50% ethyl alcohol, 3) the first and second mixture of 95% ethyl alcohol, distilled water, and 4) distilled water extract. In the case of fine black ginseng (FBG), the first and second mixture extracts of 95% ethyl alcohol and distilled water were the highest. In addition, the ratio of the protopanaxadiol group and the protopanaxatriol group (PD/PT) showed that the ratio of BG ranged from 0.304 to 0.601, while the ratio of FBG ranged from 1.166 to 1.657.

Agastache rugosa is distributed in Korea, China Japan and etc. by perennial plant of Labiatae. It has been used for treatment of tumor, cholera, emesis, pyrexia, headache, a cold, a disordered digestion, stomachache and halitosis. MeOH Extract of aerial part from Agastache rugosa is fractionated with H2O, 30%, 60% and 100% MeOH. These four fractions were tested for the scavenging activity for DPPH radical according to the guided fractionation. A strong antioxidant activity was found on 30% and 60% MeOH fractions. One unknown compound was isolate from 30% and 60% MeOH fractions using chromatography. Because of excellent antioxidant activity of the compound isolate from Agastache rugosa, the compound could be used for the developments of functional anti-aging cosmetic. By physico-chemical characteristics, spectroscophic analysis. Compound Ⅰ is acacetin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (C22H22O10) and its m.p. is 263°. This Compound I is considered the major ingredient of antioxidant activity and the major source of acacetin-7-O-ß-D-glucopyranoside as isolated to 21.4g. Accordingly, as the use of the superior antioxidant activity compound isolated from Agastache rugosa, there are high possibilities of development that are toward antioxidant compound and toward new materials of functional anti-aging cosmetic.

Repeated treatment of hair permanent wave and coloring cause to hair weakness and cuticle a damage. So that, a optimal treatment condition of hair coloring was proven in this study by different methods. 15 Hair pieces were divided into 3 groups (Room Temperature; RT incubation, heating, ozone treatment). Red and yellow dye were selected for coloring, and hair pieces were treated with color dye in 10 minutes at RT incubation or heating and ozone vapor by using of machine. Value of lightness(L*), redness(a*) and yellowness(b*) were measured for color change observation by chroma meter, and alkaline solubility and swelling were calculated. In the result, ozone treated hair pieces after apply of red and yellow dye were the highest value of L*, a* and b*. And alkaline solubility and swelling by ozone vapor treatment were shown the lowest value. Heating method after apply of red and yellow dye was revealed the lowest value of L*, a* and b*, and the highest level of alkaline solubility and swelling in contrary to ozone vapor treatment. In conclusion, ozone vapor treatment could be useful better than RT incubation and heating for protection of hair damage by coloring, and heating method may be caused hair damage by coloring.

Crude saponin fractions were isolated using non-ionic resin chromatography from Ginseng Radix Alba (PG) and Gynostemmae Herba (GP). These saponin fractions were orally administered to streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats for 2 weeks and to high-fat diet-induced obese rats for 4 weeks. Treatment with either PG saponin or GP saponin at a dose of 1 mg/kg significantly decreased the plasma glucose level to that of glibenclamide treated or normal groups. The increased plasma triglyceride (TG) level in diabetic rats was decreased by 50% with PG or GP saponin treatment. Combined administration of PG and GP saponins with different ratios (total dose of 1 mg/kg) also had the similar effects on the blood glucose and TG levels with that of PG or GP alone. Treatments with GP (1 mg/kg) or GP (0.5 mg/kg) and PG (0.5 mgfkg) together signiscantly suppressed the rise in TG levels induced by high-fat diet whereas slightly suppressed the rise in the total cholesterol level. The body weight gain was also decreased both in the two saponin treated groups. These results demonstrate that either alone or mixture of PG and GP have similar degree of effects on hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia.

The herbaceous species of phyllanthus in this genus are used as hyperglycemic, diuretic, and malaria agent in the world. For the phytochemical studies and the investigation of medicinal resources in the Phyllanthu species, phyllanthus species, (Euphorbiaceae) were used and the studies of constituents in this plant were carried out. From the aqueous fraction of methanolic extract, one flavonoid (quercetin-3-0-rutinoside), two gallotannins(gallic acid, methyl gallate), and two ellagitannins (corilagin, geraniin)were isolated through fractionation and repeated column chromatography using Amberlite XAD-4, ODS gel, and sephadex LH-20. The structures of these compounds were identified on the basis of spectroscopic evidences.
