Phenolic compounds and antioxidant activities of ethanol extracts from barley sprouts were evaluated in this study. Barley sprouts were extracted using water and ethanol in various concentration (25, 50, and 75%) using reflux extraction methods. Ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) analysis showed that barley sprouts are mainly composed of rutin, gallic acid, ferulic acid, and p-coumaric acid. The 75% ethanol extracts had higher total polyphenol contents (44.01±1.32 mg/g) and total flavonoid contents (102.96±2.49 mg/g). 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity (EC50 value: 1.65±0.02 mg/mL) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt radical scavenging activity (EC50 value: 1.67±0.02 mg/mL) of the 75% ethanol extracts of barley sprouts were found to be the most effective. The 75% ethanol extracts of barley sprouts exhibited a strong reducing activity and ferric reducing antioxidant activity. As a result, the 75% ethanol extracts of barley sprouts showed stronger antioxidant activity than other extracts.

This study was designed to evaluate the physicochemical properties and biological activities (antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activities) of three and seven-year-old Platycodon grandiflorum extracts. Three and seven-year-old Platycodon grandiflorum contained crude saponins, free amino acids and minerals. Water extracts of the three and sevenyear- old plants were prepared using reflux extraction methods. The total polyphenol contents (TPC), total flavonoid contents (TFC), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) radical scavenging activity and antimicrobial effects of the extracts were determined. The seven-year-old Platycodon grandiflorum extract had higher TPC (5.08±0.07 TAE mg/g) and TFC (3.80±0.07 QUE mg/g). DPPH radical scavenging activity (IC50 value: 288±3.88 μg/mL) and ABTS radical scavenging activity (IC50 value: 568±2.09 μg/mL). The three and seven-year-old Platycodon grandiflorum extracts exhibited a strong antimicrobial effect against three kinds of bronchus disease-inducing bacteria; the seven-year-old Platycodon grandiflorum extracts showed a stronger antimicrobial effect than the three-year-old Platycodon grandiflorum extracts.

This study was carried out to investigate the improvements in antioxidant activities and cholesterol secretion inhibiting abilities upon the maturation of black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis, collected from May to June) for determining the suitability of black raspberry extracts for use as functional food materials. During the maturation process, the black raspberry samples were extracted by water using the reflux extraction method. The antioxidant activities of the resulting water extracts were determined in terms of the reducing power and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and it was found that these values were higher for the unripe black raspberry sample. The cholesterol secretion inhibition activities of the extracts were then examined in HepH2 cell, while the hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity and cell viability were measured in HepG2 cell. In addition, cholesterol secretion was inhibited of unripe black raspberry in HepG2 cell. Furthermore, HMG-CoA reductase activity of the unripe black raspberry extract was found to be superior to those of the other extracts. These results, therefore, indicated that the antioxidant activity and cholesterol secretion inhibiting ability of black raspberry were reduced during maturation and thus the water extract of unripe black raspberry could be suitable for application in functional foods and medicial materials.

이 논문에서는 함수가 폐그래프를 갖기위한 필요충분조건을 토대로하여 일반화된 새로운 개념, hyper폐함수를 도입하고 정의공간, 치역공간등의 성질에 따라 그 새로운 개념이 어떠한 성질들을 갖는가를 조사 연구하였다. This article begins with the generalization of necessary and sufficient condition for any function to have closed graph [4]. Its generalization led us introduce a new concept of hyper closed functions. Some propositions have been worked out under different situations making functions hyper closed. We close our article by investigating some separation properties induced by hyper closed functions either on its domain, or range, or on both spaces.
