Seventy-five patients with either pulmonary nodules or masses that could not be confirmed with sputum examination or bronchoscopic examination underwent transthoracic fineneedle aspiration with 22 or 23 gauze needles under fluoroscopy for cytologic diagnosis. There were 51 men and 24 women, and the age range was 43-78 years old. The lesion distribution and sizes were as follow: 48 cases in the right lung, 2l cases in the left lung, 23 cases under 4 cm in size, and 52 cases over 4 cm in size. There were no meaningful correlations in lesion size or site with malignant or benign cytologic findings. Among the 46 malignant cases squamous cell carcinoma was 32 cases, large cell carcinoma 5 cases, small cell carcinoma 4cases, lymphoma 3 cases, and bronchioalveolar carcinoma 2 cases. Among the other cases, pulmonary tuberculosis was. 11 cases and lung abcess 3 cases. Among the 49 cases proven malignant after operation or follow-up by now, 46 cases were malignant at fine- needle aspiration biopsy cytology (sensitivity 93.9%), and among the 23 cases proven benign after follow up, all showed no malignancy by fine-needle aspiration biopsy cytology (specificity 100%). Three cases failed in the follow-up due to various causes. In the benign cases, there were some who had difficulty in being diagnosed with this procedure alone, but we were helped a great deal in differentiating malignancies by this procedure. Complications were minimal, but 5 cases of pneumoth-orax occurred, and 2 cases among these needed closed thoracotomy and soon improved. In conclusion, transthoracic fine-needle aspiration biopsy cytology is very helpful in diagnosing patients with lung nodules or masses that failed to be confirmed with sputum examination or bronchoscopic procedure and in differentiating a malignant state from a benign one, with minimal complications. So, active clinical trial of this procedure is recommended.

The formation of the secondary reaction zone (SRZ) at the interface between the CoNiCrAlY coating and experimental Ni-based single crystal superalloy substrate was investigated. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation revealed that the SRZ was composed of recrystallized γ` grains with a high density of fine topologically close-packed (TCP) precipitates. The TCP precipitate was identified as the faulted and twinned rhombohedral μ phase. TCP precipitation appears to be analogous to the discontinuous precipitation. The γ` grains nucleated epitaxially with grains in the coated layer. Preferential formation of the SRZ was observed along the <110> direction. This anisotropy of SRZ formation may be essentially related to the preferential <110> dislocation gliding direction where recrystallization would be most active due to high strain energy and the supply of fast interdiffusion pathways. Based on the suggested SRZ formation mechanism, the intermediate annealing is proposed to suppress SRZ formation in terms of mitigation of strain energy and interdiffusion. The fatigue of back muscle in the repetitive lifting motion was studied using multiple parameters(FFT_MDF, RMS, ZC, NT) in this study. Recent developments in the time-frequency analysis procedures to compute the IMDF(instantaneous median frequency) were utilized to overcome the nonstationarity of EMG signal using Cohen-Posch distribution. But the above method has a lot of computation time because of its complexity. So, in this study, FFT_MDF(median frequency estimation based on FFT) algorithm was used for median frequency estimation of back muscle EMG signal during muscle work in uniform velocity portion of lumbar movement. The analysis period of EMG signal was determined by using the run test and lumbar movement angle in dynamic task, such as lifting. Results showed that FFT_MDF algorithm is well suited for the estimation of back muscle fatigue from the view point of computation time. The negative slope of a regression line fitted to the median frequency values of back muscle EMG signal was taken as an indication of muscle fatigue. The slope of muscle fatigueness with FFT_MDF method shows the similarity of 77.8% comparing with CP_MDF(median frequency estimation based on Cohen Posch distribution) method.

The transition of serrated grain boundary and its effect on liquation behavior in the simulated weld heat-affected zone (HAZ) have been investigated in a wrought Ni-based superalloy Alloy 263. Recently, the present authors have found that grain boundary serration occurs in the absence of adjacent coarse ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles or $M_{23}C_6$ carbides when a specimen is direct-aged with a combination of slow cooling from solution treatment temperature to aging temperature. The present study was initiated to determine the interdependence of the serration and HAZ property with a consideration of this serration as a potential for the use of a hot-cracking resistant microstructure. A crystallographic study indicated that the serration led to a change in grain boundary character as special boundary with a lower interfacial energy as those terminated by low-index {111} boundary planes. It was found that the serrated grain boundaries are highly resistant to boron enrichment, and suppress effectively grain coarsening in HAZ. Furthermore, the serrated grain boundaries showed a higher resistance to susceptibility of liquation cracking. These results was discussed in terms of a significant decrease in interfacial energy of grain boundary by the serration.

Mucormycosis is an uncommon, frequently fatal, opportunistic fungal infection. Rhino-cerebral and pulmonary involvement are the most common forms and usually occur in immunecompromised patients. Gastrointestinal involvement is extremely rare, the stomach being the most frequently involved site among them. We report a case of gastric mucormycosis in a 37 year old male alcoholic with gastric ulcer. On histological examination, characteristic findings of hyphae with irregular width and right angle branchings were observed in the gastric mucosa and ulcer debris. The diagnosis of gastric mucormycosis was made by the characteristic histological nature. The patient was treated aggressively with antibiotics and antiulcer regimen for 6 weeks, and then no fungus was present on follow up biopsy of gastric mucosa.
