Central cord syndrome (CCS) is the most common incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI) syndrome, occured by cervical hyperextension injury. It is characterized by disproportionately greater motor impairment in the upper extremities compared to the lower extremities, bladder dysfunction, and variable degrees of sensory loss below the level of injury. Recently 36 year-old male was admitted with upper motor neuron weakness, sensory loss in the upper extremities and stiff neck. We report the improvement of his symptoms through both western medical treatment and oriental medical treatment.

Objectives : In this study, aged BCAO rats were used to observe the effect of Bupleuri Radix on brain ischemic injury because aging is an important factor in storke. Methods : The brain ischemic injury was induced by temporary closing carotids on both sides in a low blood pressure state, and Bupleuri Radix was orally administered to 18 month-old BCAO rats. The ischemic damaged hippocampus and c-Fos and c-Jun expression were analyzed by the immunohistochemical staining. Result and Conclusions : Results are summarized as fellows; 1. The c-Fos expression after inducing a brain ischemic injury in the hippocampus was more inhibited in the experimental group than in the control group. 2. The normalized optical density of c-Fos expression was more reduced in cornu ammonis(CA)1, dentate gyrus(DG) areas in the experimental group than in the control group. 3. The c-Jun expression after inducing a brain ischemic injury in the hippocampus was more inhibited in the experimental group than in the control group. 4. The normalized optical density of c-Jun expression was more reduced in CA1 and DG areas in the experimental group than in the control group.

Recently poly styrene (PPS) and poly vinyl acetate (PVA) are being investigated as a gate insulator for organic thin film transistors(OTFTs), because their dielectric constant for PVA and PPS is high enough to be used for gate insulator in the OTFT device. We report characteristics of single layer dielectric constant for PPS and PVA, and double layer of PPS/PVA prepared by different plasma power. Composition and electrical properties of the plasma polymerized insulating layer were investigated by FT-IR, I-V, and C-V measurements. Influence of the preparation condition on the resulting plasma polymerized thin films were discussed.

The OTFT devices had inverted staggered structures of Au/pentacene/ppMMA/ITO on PET substrate. The overall device performances of the flexible devices such as the operating voltage, the field effect mobility, the on/off ratio and the off current are somewhat worse than those of devices fabricated on glass substrates. Pentacene/ppMMA OTFT benchmarks (mobility, sub-threshold slope, on/off ratio) were comparable to that of solution cast PMMA, but below average when compared to other polymer gate dielectrics. However, threshold and drive voltages were among the lowest reported for a polymer gate dielectric, and surpassed only by ultra-thin SAM gate dielectrics.
