        Soy Products Fermented with Sprouted Garlic Have Increased Neuroprotective Activities and Restore Cognitive Functions

        Enhanced antioxidant activities of sprouted garlic over garlic were considered. The popular Korean traditional fermented soybean product cheonggukjang (CGJ) was prepared as normal CGJ and prepared with fermentation of a mixture of cooked soybeans and sprouted garlic. Different varieties were investigated for anti-oxidative and protective activities against oxidative stress in neuronal cells. Normal CGJ was compared with CGJ prepared with garlic and sprouted garlic for anti-oxidative and neuroprotective activities and protection of cognitive function. CGJ prepared with sprouted garlic during fermentation exhibited higher anti-oxidative and neuroprotective activities in a mouse hippocampal model than the normal fermented soy product with enhanced cognitive function in the mouse model. Sprouted garlic can be used to improve the health benefits of fermented soy products.

      • 재공영화를 통한 수도 통합 사례 : 파리시

        프랑스의 지방상수도사업의 주체는 기초지자체에 해당하는 꼬뮌(Commune)으로 3만 6천여 개에 가까운 꼬뮌의 수만큼 수도서비스가 분절되어 있다. 따라서 지방상수도사업은 규모의 영세성과 비효율적 운영의 문제가 발생하여 이를 해결하기 위해 중앙정부가 꼬뮌 통합과 동시에 수도 통합을 법과 제도를 통해 지속적으로 유인하고 있는 상황이다. 이러한 배경 하에 본 연구는 2010년 재공영화와 통합을 동시에 이룬 파리시 사례를 중심으로 통합 과정과 효과를 검토하였다. 나아가 점차 커지는 기후변화의 위험과 인구수 감소와 같은 문제에 대응하기 위해 파리市를 중심으로 한 인근의 지자체들과 수도 광역화시도를 살펴보았다. 프랑스는 인구수와 지자체의 규모면에 있어 우리나라의 상황과 차이가 있으나 분절된 수도공급체계를 갖고 있다는 점이 공통된다. 따라서 파리市 사례는 향후 수도 통합 및 광역화 모델로 참고할 만한 사례가 될 수 있을 것이다.

        Effectiveness of Ear Splint Therapy for Ear Deformities

        Objective To present our experience with ear splint therapy for babies with ear deformities, and thereby demonstrate that this therapy is an effective and safe intervention without significant complications.Methods This was a retrospective study of 54 babies (35 boys and 19 girls; 80 ears; age ≤3 months) with ear deformities who had received ear splint therapy at the Center for Torticollis, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Ajou University Hospital between December 2014 and February 2016. Before the initiation of ear splint therapy, ear deformities were classified with reference to the standard terminology. We compared the severity of ear deformity before and after ear splint therapy by using the physician’s ratings. We also compared the physician’s ratings and the caregiver’s ratings on completion of ear splint therapy.Results Among these 54 babies, 41 children (58 ears, 72.5%) completed the ear splint therapy. The mean age at initiation of therapy was 52.91±18.26 days and the treatment duration was 44.27±32.06 days. Satyr ear, forward-facing ear lobe, Darwinian notch, overfolded ear, and cupped ear were the five most common ear deformities. At the completion of therapy, the final physician’s ratings of ear deformities were significantly improved compared to the initial ratings (8.28±1.44 vs. 2.51±0.92; p<0.001). There was no significant difference between the physician’s ratings and the caregiver’s ratings at the completion of ear splint therapy (8.28±1.44 vs. 8.0±1.61; p=0.297).Conclusion We demonstrated that ear splint therapy significantly improved ear deformities in babies, as measured by quantitative rating scales. Ear splint therapy is an effective and safe intervention for babies with ear deformities.

        Clostridium 속 미생물 대사공학을 통한 butanol 생산

        Clostridium은 그람양성, 장간균으로 포자를 형성하는 절대혐기성 균이다. Clostridium은 다양한 기질을 이용할 수 있고, 유용 화합물 합성을 위한 building block으로 사용 가능한 대사산물을 생산할 수 있어, 최근 많은 관심을 끌고 있다. 특히, Clostridium을 이용하여 생산된 butanol은 차세대 연료로써 고려되고 있다. 수송용 연료로써 butanol은 1세대 바이오연료인 ethanol과 비교하여 더 높은 에너지 밀도와 낮은 흡습성을 보이는 것으로 알려져 있다. 최근, butanol 생산을 위한 Clostridium 대사공학이 활발히 진행되어 상당한 진보를 보이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 butanol 생산을 위한 Clostridium의 대사공학 전략을 리뷰하고, 관련 분야에 대해서 간략히 전망하였다. Clostridium is a genus of Gram-positive, rod shape, spore-forming obligate anaerobe. Recently, Clostridium has been attracted as a host for bio-based chemical production, due to its diversity of substrate utilization and the production ability for metabolites which can be used as a building block for chemical production. Especially, butanol produced from Clostridium has been considered as an alternative fuel. As a transportation fuel, butanol has a higher energy density and lower hygroscopicity compared to ethanol, the first generation biofuel. Recently, metabolic engineering of Clostridium has been massively conducted for butanol production. In this study, the metabolic engineering strategy of Clostridium for butanol production has been reviewed with a brief perspective.

        Effects of nutritional enrichment on acid production from degenerated (non-solventogenic) Clostridium acetobutylicum strain M5

        Clostridium acetobutylicum has been used as a microbial platform for the production of butanol, acetone, and butyrate from biomass. This study examined the effect of nutritional enrichment on the production of acetate and butyrate by C. acetobutylicum in culture, and tested whether this nutritional change could shift metabolic flux in these microbial cells. The degenerated (non-solventogenic) C. acetobutylicum M5 strain, which lacks the pSOL1 plasmid that contains genes responsible for solvent production, was cultured in the rich medium, C. acetobutylicum medium 1 (CAM1). As a control, M5 strain was also cultured in clostridial growth medium (CGM). Batch fermentation of M5 strain in CAM1 achieved a cell density of 23.7 (OD600), which was 2.55 times that obtained when these cells were cultured in CGM. Fermentation in CAM1 yielded volumetric acetate and butyrate productivities of 0.42 g/L/h and 1.06 g/L/h, respectively, which were 2.33 and 1.33 times the values obtained in CGM. Nutritional enrichment also increased the acetate-to-butyrate ratio, which was 0.39 g/g for M5 cells grown in CAM1 and 0.25 g/g for those grown in CGM. These findings demonstrate that the tested nutritional enrichment triggers a metabolic shift in the acid production of a degenerated C. acetobutylicum in culture.

        이종 디바이스 환경에 효과적인 신규 딥러닝 기반 프로파일링 부채널 분석

        Deep learning-based profiling side-channel analysis has been many proposed. Deep learning-based profiling analysis is a technique that trains the relationship between the side-channel information and the intermediate values to the neural network, then finds the secret key of the attack device using the trained neural network. Recently, cross-device profiling side channel analysis was proposed to consider the realistic deep learning-based profiling side channel analysis scenarios. However, it has a limitation in that attack performance is lowered if the profiling device and the attack device have not the same chips. In this paper, an environment in which the profiling device and the attack device have not the same chips is defined as the different-device, and a novel deep learning-based profiling side-channel analysis on different-device is proposed. Also, MCNN is used to well extract the characteristic of each data. We experimented with the six different boards to verify the attack performance of the proposed method; as a result, when the proposed method was used, the minimum number of attack traces was reduced by up to 25 times compared to without the proposed method. 딥러닝 기반 프로파일링 부채널 분석은 사전에 소비전력과 같은 부채널 정보와 중간값과의 관계를 신경망이 학습한 뒤, 학습된 신경망을 이용하여 공격 파형의 비밀키를 찾아내는 기법이다. 최근에는 실제 부채널 분석 환경을 고려하기 위하여 교차 디바이스 환경에서의 분석 방안들이 제안되고 있다. 그러나 이러한 환경은 프로파일링 디바이스와 공격 디바이스의 칩이 다르면 공격 성능이 낮아지는 한계점이 존재한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 공격자가 프로파일링 디바이스와 다른 칩을 가지는 공격 디바이스를 가지고 있는 환경을 이종 디바이스라고 정의하고, 이러한 환경을 고려한 분석 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 프로파일링 데이터와 공격 데이터에서 발생하는 도메인 차이를 줄이기 위해 비지도 도메인 적응을 사용하였다. 또한, 각 데이터의 특징을 잘 추출하기 위하여 여러 전처리 데이터와 원본 데이터를 학습하는 신경망 구조인 MCNN를 이용하였다. 이종 디바이스 환경을 구성하기 위해 8-bit 기반 프로세서 1개, 32-bit 기반 프로세서 5개를 이용하여 AES-128 전력 파형을 수집하였다. 제안한 방법론을 적용한 신경망과 적용하지 않은 신경망의 공격 성능을 비교했을 때, 제안한 방법론을 적용한 신경망의 최소 분석 파형 수가 최대 25배 이상 낮아졌다.

        목소리 변화가 자신감, 자아존중감, 긍정적 사고에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects that objective and subjective changes in the voice of participants who took part in a voice training course have on their confidence, self-esteem and positivity. The training was conducted on 83 adult learners, enrolled voluntarily in the “Voice Training” course delivered by the A institute and done in small groups of 3 to 5 people during 8 sessions of 120 minutes each (1-2 sessions a week). Out of these, 60 people were selected for analysis. In order to objectively measure the results of voice training, voice analysis was carried out with the help of the Praat voice analysis software, before and after the participants’ training. In addition, a structured questionnaire was given to the participants, before and after training, to get their subjective views on their voice, confidence, self-esteem and positivity. The SPSS 18.0 program was used to analyze this statistical data. Lastly, the reactions of the participants were collected after the experiment in order to conduct a qualitative analysis on the perceived influence of the changes in their voice when it comes to confidence, self-esteem and positivity. Results show that after the voice training course both objective voice analysis figures (Jitter, Shimmer, NHR) and subjective voice evaluations improved as did the participants’ perceived confidence, self-esteem and positivity. These changes were found to be independent of sex, age, occupation, motives for participating in the course and geographic location.

        Butanol 생합성 Clostridium 속 미생물 대사공학용 게놈 편집 도구 개발

        Global warming caused from the heavy consumption of fossil fuel is one of the biggest problems to be solved. Biofuel has been gained more attention as an alternative to reduce the consumption of fossil fuel. Recently, butanol produced from the genus Clostridium has been considered as one of the promising alternatives for gasoline, fossil based fuel. Nevertheless, the lack of the genome-engineering tools for the genus Clostridium is the major hurdle for the economic production of butanol. More recently, genome engineering tools have been developed for metabolic engineering of butanolproducing Clostridium species, which includes genome scale network model and genome editing tools on the basis of mobile group II introns and CRISPR/Cas system. In this study, the genome engineering tools for butanol-producing Clostridium species have been reviewed with a brief future perspective.
