Objective To introduce the Korean Database of Cerebral Palsy (KDCP) and to provide the first report on characteristics of subjects with cerebral palsy (CP).Methods The KDCP is a nationwide database of subjects with CP, which includes a total of 773 subjects. Characteristics such as demography, birth history, onset and type of CP, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, functional ability and accompanying impairments, were extracted and analyzed. Results Preterm delivery and low birth weight were found in 59.51% and 60.28% of subjects, respectively. Postnatally acquired CP was 15.3%. The distribution of CP was 87.32%, 5.17%, and 1.81% for spastic, dyskinetic, and ataxic types, respectively. Functional ability was the worst in dyskinetic CP, as compared to other types of CP. Speech-language disorder (43.9%), ophthalmologic impairment (32.9%), and intellectual disability (30.3%) were the three most common accompanying impairments. The number of accompanying impairments was elevated in subjects with preterm birth and low birth weight. Brain MRI showed normal findings, malformations, and non-malformations in 10.62%, 9.56%, and 77.35% of subjects, respectively. Subjects with normal MRI findings had better functional ability than subjects with other MRI findings. MRI findings of a non-malformation origin, such as periventricular leukomalacia, were more common in subjects with preterm birth and low birth weight. Conclusion The KDCP and its first report are introduced in this report, wherein the KDCP established agreement on terminologies of CP. This study added information on the characteristics of subjects with CP in South Korea, which can now be compared to those of other countries and ethnicities.

This study described strengthening differences between primary and secondary stress in English words according to the number of syllables among acoustic parameters such as vowel duration, intensity, and F0 produced by 12 Korean speakers and 18 American speakers from the Buckeye Corpus of Conversational Speech. Also, this study analyzed phonetic correlation between F1 and F2. The acoustical analysis to measure acoustic parameters was conducted through Praat. The post hoc test with ANOVA was conducted for statistical evaluation on these measures using SPSS 18. This study mainly suggested four interesting findings: First, in both accented and unaccented syllables, the position of primary and secondary stress significantly influences vowel duration and intensity. Second, American speakers rely crucially on vowel duration, and weakly on F0, while the Korean speakers make reference to F0 in the distinction between primary and secondary stress in English. Third, unstressed vowels produced by American speakers are weaken or deleted. Lastly, F2 values of the unstressed vowels by Korean speakers are higher and F1 values are lower than those of American speakers.

Abnormal posture of the head and neck can happen to anybody from neonates to adults, which requires appropriate interventions according to etiologies. Congenital muscular torticollis is the most common cause of abnormal posture of the head and neck in infancy, where early intervention as soon as possible is critical for better therapeutic outcome. Childhood laterocollis is heterogeneous condition, which needs etiological diagnosis for the proper management. Cervical dystonia is the most common form of focal dystonia and an overview on clinical presentations and therapeutic options including chemodenervation with botulinum toxin injection was provided. Abnormal posture of the head and neck of acute onset could be a sign of serious conditions and needs differential diagnosis.

Conversion of Medium, Novel into Film —The beard of General This paper has an aim to study the aspects of conversion from novel into film according to the trait of medium. In the dramatization, all text is certain to have some distinctions against the original work. Due to the conversation of medium, transform, supplement/elimination of affair becomes an essential element to lead a narrative. A scenario adapted from a novel has a lot of aspects that occur through the various routes. So the final scenario is made of essential and accidental elements such as, the medium, the genre, the inclination of the adapter, the atmosphere of period, the consciousness of popularity, the performer as a star and the requirement of investor. The embodiment of the elements is influenced by how to recreate the situation, character, theme, plot, lines, affair inside of the text. In many times, the adapter can add an epoch-making affair or give a new condition. All his attempts is an effort to ensure the driving force of the drama that is embodied through the action of performer. The narrative structure of The beard of General hasn’t lots of alterations in comparison with the original work. But that shows some changes according to the trait of medium. In the original work, the critique of author is revealed concretely against the society at that time by the ‘I’ as a narrator. So the death of Kim Chul Hun is looked upon as a pharmakos because of the regimentation of group consciousness and irrational society. On the other hand, his death is focused on his tragic fate of the protagonist in the scenario. As it were, his death was deemed as personal matter, solitude and alienation of a modern. And the film has various cinematic effect such as unique animation, flashback and narration. Especially flashback and narration are frequent in it, because the film makes the explanation about a murder case which is the start. The manner of performance is an important part not only for good function of medium, but also for the driving force of narrative. And others, the film is presented for distinguishing mark, that is the composition of character according as mystery plot, and scenarization by the visualization.

This study aims to account for the variation among VOT, F0 and vowel durations of English voiced and voiceless stops. It provides analysis on English stops comparing English native and Korean speakers and shows the phonological transfer between English and Korean stops produced by Korean speakers. The results of the acoustic analysis indicate that the differences between voiced and voiceless stops in terms of VOT and F0 are statistically significant in both speaker groups. It turned out that the VOT values of the voiceless stops produced by native speakers were two times as high as Korean speakers. However, the F0 values between the voiced and voiceless stops produced by native speakers turned out to be overlapped. This suggests that native speakers rely on the VOT values more than on the F0 values. As for the vowel duration, the duration of following vowels was longer than that of Korean speakers. The three parameters of the English voiced and voiceless stops produced by the Korean speakers were similar to those of the Korean aspirated and lenis stops, which suggests that Koreans are not good at putting stresses on English stops.
