        타 언어권 유치원에서의 초기 사회적응 사례연구: 침묵기(silent period)를 중심으로

        본 연구는 재미 한인 가정 유아의 사례를 통해 타 언어권 유치원에서의 초기 사회적 경험을 살피고 침묵기(silent period)의 사회 발달적 의미를 탐구해 보고자 하였다. 약 7개월간의 참여관찰과 비디오분석을 통해 놀이형태, 또래와의 상호작용 및 의사소통, 관계 등의 사회적응 양상을 탐색하고, 비디오활용 유아면담과 교사면담의 비교분석을 통해 교사-유아 간 인식의 차이를 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 사례 유아는 첫째, 침묵 중에도 적극적 관찰과 사적 연습으로 사회적 학습을 하고 있었으며, 둘째, 다양한 비언어적 표현으로 또래와 소통하였으며, 셋째, 일방적 관계보다는 상호 이해와 도움이 가능한 또래를 친구로 인식했으며, 넷째, 놀이시간보다는 정리 및 전이시간에 다양한 공간과 자원을 활용하며 보다 많은 상호작용을 한 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 교사의 인식과는 많은 차이를 보였다. 이에 본 연구는 이민자ㆍ다문화 가정 유아의 학교적응을 돕기 위해 유아의 시각을 이해하고 이들의 방법에 응답하는 교수 접근법이 필요함을 제안하였다. This case study explored the social meaning of the “silent period” by looking at the early social experiences of a Korean girl enrolled in a U. S. preschool. Data were derived from video-cued child interviews, teacher interviews, participant observations and video recordings over seven months. The results showed that, even in the “silent period,” the child developed social knowledge and skills through active observations and private practices; communicated with peers by using various nonverbal expressions; and interacted with many other children and various objects at transition time. The child wanted to be a member capable of helping other children and contributing to her classroom, but the teacher perceived the child in need of help. The study suggested that it is important to understand children’s perspectives and develop responsive teaching strategies in order to support the social adjustment of children from immigrant and multicultural families.

        피터 싱어의 “동물해방”과의 만남: 프로젝트 기반 대학생 비교과 교육프로그램 사례연구

        This study examined the experiences of a single cohort (13 university students) who participated in the INU GB Studio Seminar held by the GB Center of I University from January 10 to February 6, 2023. The INU GB Studio Seminar is a project-based educational activity based on the Great Books Seminar developed by the University of I. This study employed the narrative inquiry method (Clandinin & Connelly). Zoom online and offline meetings, final reports, interview data, and photo data were used for analysis. The results of this study were as follows: In the initial phase, one cohort group and two tutors discussed Peter Singer's book Animal Liberation. During the discussion, students attempted to understand the author's arguments on the interpretation of “animal rights” and “speciesism” and reinterpret them from their perspectives, adapting them to their current situation. In the second phase, the 13 students were divided into three groups according to their specific interests, and they executed their projects. Each team implemented individual projects based on the aforementioned content. Each team dealt with a project on vegetarianism and animal rights in the laboratory. The students involved stated that by debating with students from other majors and experiencing critical thinking, they could broaden their perspectives and enhance their capabilities. In the third phase, each team participated in a competition and gave presentations. The study's findings proved the feasibility of operating a convergence studio seminar that connects the Great Books and project-based approaches as well as fostering students' interest, autonomy, and cooperation.

        “Would You Tell My Teacher to Let Me in the Block Center?”: A Case Study of a Korean Immigrant Boy’s Peer Interactions and Preschool Peer Culture at Playtime

        This study presents the case of Hoon, a 4-year-old Korean immigrant boy and his initial adjustment to an American preschool, by focusing his interactions with peers at playtime in relation to peer culture. Data were collected for four months through participatory observations during in-class playtime and interviews with the boy’s mother and teacher. The findings revealed that children in the classroom played according to a peer culture and the rules in each play center. This study found that Hoon’s different interactions with his peers in each center reflected his understanding of the peer culture, thus demonstrating the possibility of a play center with a peer culture that helps an immigrant child’s positive peer interactions. The study suggests that teachers should (a) understand peer culture and its effects on minority children, and (b) reflect on their practices to avoid practices that minimize immigrant children’s agency.

        한국 근대기 부적의 조형성 - 개항 이후 일제강점기 동안 유통된 부적이미지를 중심으로 -

        The current paper studies the modern visuality of talisman, which has been a traditional visual image in Korea. Looking into the formative characteristics of talismans that were popularly consumed during a period when the traditional values were inflected after modernization forced by Japan, this study ultimately aims to find a clue for understanding Korean traditional visual language in the perspective of "continuation of traditional values and their realistic restruc turing." Analyses on modern talisman were conducted by reviewing images reported in books written by Japanese folklorists during Japanese occupation, such as 『Ghosts in Joseon』, 『Research of Joseon Shamanism』, and 『Various Talismans』, The data in these books are major analytic indices because they contain images of talisman collected at the time, allowing researchers to compare modern talismans with pre-modern ones. In addition, literature on modern daily life in Korea related to shamanism were studied, in order to understand the ways in which the talismans were used. As a result of the research, it was found that a modern talisman was accompanied by a formative variation intensifying a talisman-specific visuality while following a unique constituting principle inherent in a traditional talisman. Particularly, with the number of strokes of Chinese character talisman functioning as a more linear formative element in comparison with earlier times, the characteristic of a character talisman assuming a picturesque shape stood out, and a modern talisman represented a method of connecting a part of the body with a character, or combining it with a specific figure as an expedient for visualizing transcendental power. This shows that while the enlightenment and colonization policies rejected talismans as bearers of images that officialize group sentiments and desires, inherent visuality containing shamanistic values deepened in contrast, depending on individual objectives. Like this, this study has significance in that it provides the beginning, which makes it possible to shed a new light on a traditional visual language, by considering formative characteristics represented by a visual shape embedding traditional value in response to reality of the times, and further provides another perspective to the past & gone research flow on 'Inquiry into Korean Moulding in Design Field.' 본 연구는 한국의 전통 시각이미지로 자리해 온 부적의 근대적 조형성을 고찰하고 있다. 이는 일본에 의한 근대화 이후 전통의 가치가 굴절되었던 시기에 대중적으로 소비되었던 부적의 시각적 특징을 살펴 보는 것으로, 궁극적인 목적은 ‘전통적 가치의 지속과 현실적 재구성’이라는 관점에서 전통의 시각 언어를 이해할 수 있는 단초를 제공하는데 있다. 근대 부적에 대한 분석은 일제강점기 일본 민속학자들에 의해 저술된 『조선의 귀신』, 『조선무속의 연구』, 작자미상인 『각양부적』에 실린 이미지를 대상으로 했다. 이들 자료는 모두 1920,30년대에 수집된 부적을 기록하고 있다는 점에서 근대 이전시기 부적과의 공통점과 차이점을 살펴볼 수 있는 주요 분석 지표로 작용했다. 이와 함께 부적이 사용된 양상을 살펴보기 위해 무속신앙과 관련된 한국의 근대 일상사 연구 및 해당 문헌 등을 고찰하였다. 연구결과, 근대 부적은 전통의 부적이 내재한 고유의 구성원리를 따르면서 부적 특유의 시각성을 강화하는 조형적 변이를 동반했다. 이전시기보다 한자부적의 자획(字劃)이 선적인 조형요소로 기능함으로써 회화적 형상을 띤 문자부적의 특성이 두드러졌으며, 초월적인 힘을 가시화하기 위한 방편으로 신체 일부를 문자와 연결시키거나 특정 도형과 결합하는 방식을 나타냈다. 이는 계몽운동과 식민정책의 영향으로 집단적 정서와 욕구를 공식화한 이미지로서의 기능은 사회로부터 배격되었으나 주술적 가치를 내재한 고유의 시각성은 오히려 개인의 목적에 따라 심화되었음을 나타낸 것이었다. 즉 근대 부적의 조형성은 근대 이전 집단적 소원에 기초해 형성되었던 특유의 조형성을 기반으로 ‘근대’라는 시대적 상황에 따른 시각적 구성의 변이를 동반하며 일상의 시각언어로 소용된 것이었다. 이처럼 본 연구는 전통의 가치를 내재한 시각적 형상이 시대적 현실에 반응하여 나타낸 조형적 특징을 고찰함으로써 전통의 시각언어를 새롭게 조명할 수 있는 단초를 제공하고, 나아가 ‘디자인 분야에서의 한국적 조형의 모색’에 관한 기왕의 연구흐름에 또 다른 시각을 제공하였다는데 의의를 갖는다.

        Bakhtinian Analysis of Social Engagement at Preschool Clean-up Time: Carnival for Engaging Everyone

        Drawing on an ethnographic study of two immigrant children’s first year experiences at U. S. preschools, this paper reports the children’s social engagement through clean-up time. Data were collected and analyzed through participant observations and video-cued interviews. Framed by research of peer culture in preschool and Bakhtin’s concept of carnival, I examine differences between playtime and clean-up time that resulted in the two children’s different degrees of social engagement at each time. Findings show that the carnivalistic mode of clean-up time allows the children to be free from the social order at playtime and actively use the time for enriching their social engagement. The findings suggest that educators recognize constraints immigrant children experience from the established order at school and the need to rethink the value of carnivalistic moments such as clean-up time for social engagement of all children.

        한국의 성냥갑 디자인이 내재한 근대적 감각

        The purpose of this study is to consider packaging design as a daily lifestyle. This is significant in that it provides a starting point for reading the inherent value of packaging design as a cultural medium, away from the perspective of marketing tools, which has deepened in the field of Korean design research. The concept of “packaging design as a marketing tool” originated from the “artization strategy of products to boost exports” promoted at the national level in the 1970s. The Korea Packaging Design Center, a power plant for national design strategies at the time, defined packaging design as an art tool to make factory-produced products look like the best products and implemented related policies and systems. This view of packaging design germinated at the institutional level in the 1970s had a great influence on the industry and academia since then. In particular, academic research and education on packaging design have been based on the definition of packaging from the West, which is ‘packaging is a silent salesperson’. Therefore, from the 1970s to the present, packaging design is still recognized as an absolute graphic tool that generates exchange value in the market. However, this study traces the function that packaging design has performed from a cultural research perspective and illuminates the characteristics of packaging design as a cultural medium that converges and diverges certain lifestyles. The Korean matchbox, the main research subject, is a design text that drove this research purpose, and the research method was based on literature research with qualitative research characteristics. By analyzing matchboxes distributed in Korea from the opening of ports to the 1930s at a synchronic and microscopic level, the value inherent in packaging design, which mediates the sense of daily life, is converted into text with the meaning of recording.

        오페라 〈소태산 박중빈〉의 플롯 연구

        <소태산 박중빈>은 원불교 교조인 소태산 박중빈의 일대기를 형상화한 최초의 오페라 작품이다. 이 글은 오페라가 음악을 일차적 표현 수단으로 삼는 연극 형식이라는 전제 아래 <소태산 박중빈>의 플롯을 살펴보았다. 플롯을 분석할 때 <소태산 박중빈>이 교조의 일대기와 사상을 무대화한 종교오페라라는 점에 중점을 두었다. 이와 같은 경우 교조의 일대기와 사상을 구체적으로 형상화하고, 종교적 감동을 유발하는 데 목적이 있기 때문에 이에 상응하는 플롯이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 교조의 생애와 사상을 전달하기 위해서 플롯의 서사적 기능을 확대해야 한다고 보았다. 이에 불연속한 사건과 시간을 연결해주는 해설자를 설정함으로써 서사적 기능을 확대하자고 제안하였다. <소태산 박중빈>에서는 도창과 자막이 해설자로 기능할 수 있다고 보았다. 종교적 감동을 유발하기 위해서는 플롯의 극적 기능을 확대해야 한다고 보았다. 감동을 유발하기 위해서는 기승전결의 단계를 각 장의 구조에 적용하는 것이 필요하기 때문에 <소태산 박중빈>의 장면을 세분화하자고 제안하였다. 다양한 갈등과 장면이 절정으로 집약되고 통일될 수 있도록 하기 위해서이다. 그리고 감정을 극대화하는 아리아를 절정에 해당하는 부분에 배치하는 방법을 제시하였다. Sotaesan, Park Jung-bin is the first opera that portrays the life of Park Jung-bin whose penname is Sotaesan and who was the founder of Won Buddhism. On the assumption that opera is a theatrical form that takes music as its primary means of expression, this paper has examined the plot of Sotaesan, Park Jung-bin. The analysis of the plot focuses on the fact that Sotaesan, Park Jung-bin is a religious opera which makes a story laid in biography and philosophy of the founder of Won-Buddhism. As a religious opera has the purpose of fleshing out a founder’s life and thoughts and creating religious emotion, it needs a matching plot. In this study, religious opera is required to expand the epic role of plot in order to convey the life and thoughts of the founder. So, I have suggested that the epic role be expanded by letting the narrator put together and explain discontinuous events and time segments. I think that in Sotaesan, Park Jung-bin, Doh-Chang and subtitles can serve as narrator. I think that the dramatic role of plot should be expanded in order for a religious opera to create religious emotion. I have suggested further segmentation of scenes of Sotaesan, Park Jung-bin, as the stages of introduction, development, turn, and conclusion should be applied to the structure of each act for the purpose of creating emotion. This is designed to ensure that various conflicts and scenes are condensed and unified into a climax. And I have proposed that the aria maximizing emotional reactions be placed at the climax.
