Antitumor and anti-metastatic effects of mineral powder(MP) were studied. In the present study, MP did not exhibit the any cytotoxic activity against leukemic cells such as L1210 and U937 tumor cell lines in vitro. Also, MP did not exhibit the any cytotoxic activity against solid cells such as A549 and B16-BL6 tumor cell lines in vitro. However, in vivo, MP exhibit a significant antitumor activity in BDF1 mice bearing Lewis lung carcinoma cells(LLC) with inhibition rates of 46 and $23\%$ at 200 and 100 mg/kg/day, respectively. Furthermore, in pulmonary colonization assay, MP exhibit the inhibitory effect of tumor metastasis. From these results, it was concluded that MP had antitumor and anti-metastatic activity suggesting its application for the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Previously, we have reported that black ginseng was produced by nine-time repeated steaming 5-year fresh ginsengs at 95℃ for 3 hr in pottery apparatus and drying at 60℃ for 12~36 hr and had an outstanding anticancer activity. This study was designed to examine the ability of black ginseng to suppress body weight gain and appetite, and to investigate the effect of black ginseng on lipid profile in male rats fed normal diets. The extract of black ginseng was administered daily for 3 weeks, and the changes of body weight and food intake were measured. After administering the extracts for 3 weeks, the fat weight and serum lipid levels were also measured. Black ginseng persistently suppressed weigh gain and food intake was also reduced, but not significantly. The weight of both epididymal and abdominal fats was decreased in black ginseng-treated rats. Serum triglyceride level in rats administered with black ginseng was also significantly lowered. Therefore, these results reveal that the repeated administration of black ginseng causes a suppression body weigh gain by decreasing triglyceride level in blood and body fat deposit.

We have synthesized some 2-(2-benzyloxybenzoyloxy)-and 2-(2,6-dibenzyloxybenzoyloxy)-acetophenones as intermediates for flavone synthesis. The reaction of polyoxygenated 2-hydroxyacetophenones with 2-benzyloxybenzoic acid or 2,6-dibenzyloxybenzoic acid in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and p-dimethylaminopyridine resulted in a good yield(70-89%) of 2-(2-benzvloxybenzovloxy)-acetophenones or 2-(2,6-dibenzyloxybenzoyloxy)-acetophenones under milder conditions and in shorter time than the previous methods. This new methods using benzoic acids instead of benzoyl chlorides saves one reaction step of acid chlorination in comparision of the previous methods.
Development of Medicinal Material using Rare Ginsenoside of Ginseng

The steamed ginseng showed various biological activities such as anti-tumor, anti-diabetic, anti-oxidative, anti-obesity, anti-HIV, and anti-septic activity . The main ginsenosides of steamed ginseng were Rg3, Rk1, Rg5, Rh4, Rg4, Rg6 and Rk3 which were not present or littler present in white ginseng and red ginseng. In summary, rare ginsenosides could be used as drug or dietary functional food for the prevention and treatment of various diseases.
신약 개발을 위한 참당귀(Angelica gigas Nakai) 추출 Decursin과 Decursinol Angelate의 약리 작용

Traditionally, Cham dang-gui (Angelica gigas Nakai) is one of the most popular herbal medicines in Asian countries including Korea. A. gigas has been used as a functional food product for treatment anemia, women’s health care, a sedative, an anodyne or a tonic agent. Decursin and decursinol angelate isolated from the roots of A. gigas are pyranocoumarin compounds. Recently, as the global herbal medication market is increasing, investigations about pharmacological effects of decursin and decursinol angelate are rapidly increasing. We summarized previous studies about pharmacological effects of decursin and decursinol angelate, and reviewed relation with pharmacological effects of decursin and decursinol angelate on human disorder, focused on the approach for new drug development. Pharmacological effects of decursin and decursinol angelate were classified as anti-tumor activity, anti-bacterial activity, improvements of the circulating system, inhibition of cytochrome P-450 activity, anti-inflammation activity, anti-oxidant activity and cognitive-enhancing activites. The activity of A. gigas with improvement of the circulating system may have wide therapeutic potential for circulatory diseases, including diabetes, hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis. Also, anti-inflammation ctivity A. gigas may be beneficial for the treatment and prevention of asthma, atopic dermatitis and rheumatism arthritis. This relation could potentially lead to the development of herbal new drugs. In order to development a new drug containing decursin and decursinol angelate, it is also necessary to consider the safety profile, and the information in this review would contribute to development a new drug from herbal medicine.
인간 HER-2 재조합 단백질을 사용한 항 HER-2 항체 단백질의 ELISA 정량 방법 개발

HER-2 (Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor-2) is a protein giving higher aggressiveness in human breast cancers. Trastuzumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets HER-2 and is known to extend survival across all stages of HER2-positive breast cancer. In this study, we attempted to development of a quantitative ELISA (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay) for evaluating anti HER-2 antibodies using human HER-2 recombinant proteins to support antibody producing processes and pharmacokinetic studies. We established direct or indirect ELISA method for the trastuzumab-like protein combined human recombinant HER-2. The ELISA method will prove to be great value in quantitating anti-HER-2 antibodies levels for developing anticancer antibodies.
