Acer ginnala Maximowicz는 漢方에서 잎을 止瀉濟로 사용하는 落葉闊葉 小喬木이다. 연자들은 phenol性 化合物 資源生藥開發의 一環으로 A. ginnala의 잎을 음건한 후 80% 수성 acetone으로 抽出, 減壓不에서 濃縮하여 chlorophyll 등 不溶物을 여별하고, 얻어진 수층 엑스를 再濃縮하여 Sephadex LH-20 column을 이용, H₂O-MeOH-acetone gradient로 순차적으로 溶出시켜 6개의 fraction으로 分劃하였다. 각 fraction은 다시 MCI-gel CHP 20P, Sephadex LH-20, Cosmosil, Toyopearl, Cellulose 등의 column chromatography를 反復實施하여 14種의 phenol性 化合物을 單離하였다. 이들 化合物中 4種은 諸 物理恒數, ¹H-NMR, <sup>13</sup>C-NMR, UV, IR spectrum 등을 檢討하여 각각 gallic acid(1), ethylgallate(2), quercitrin(3), isoquercitrin(4)으로 同定하였고, 나머지 化合物의 構造에 對하여는 現在 檢討中에 있다.

Three phenolcarboxylic acids, two flavonoids and four hydrolysable tannins were isolated from the whole plant of Acalypha australis. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence, the structures of these compounds were established as gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, caffeic acid, rutin, isoquercitrin, corilagin, furosin and geraniin.

Human Genome Project (HGP) could unveil the secrets of human being by a long script of genetic codes, which enabled us to get access to mine the cause of diseases more efficiently. Two wheels for HGP, bioinformatics and high throughput technology are essential techniques for the genomic medicine. While microarray platforms are still evolving, we can screen more than 500,000 genotypes at once. Even we can sequence the whole genome of an organism within a day. Because the future medicne will focus on the genetic susceptibility of individuals, we need to find genetic variations of each person by efficient genotyping methods.

The present study was undertaken to elucidate the hypoglycemic effect and inhibitory effect of Cudrania tricuspidata root bark on aldose reductase activity. C. tricuspidata MeOH ext. 1,000 mg/kg showed a significant blood glucose lowering effect on alloxan-induced hyperglycemic rats and increasing body weight. C. tricuspidata MeOH ext. showed a potent inhibitory effect on bovine lens aldose reductase.

Two phenolcarboxylic acids. five flavonoids and one hydrolysable tannin were isolated from the leaves of Acer ginnala Maxim. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence, the strutures of these compounds were established as gallic acid, ethylgallate, acertannin, quercetin, quercitrin, isoquercitrin, rutin, $quercetin-3-O-{\alpha}-_L-rhamnopyranosyl-2'-gallate$.

To search for inhibitory activities for lens aldose reductase, twenty two medicinal plants were tested by the method of bovine lens aldose reductase inhibition test. In this test Rubia akane(68%), Artemisia selengensis(61%), Lespedeza cuneata (58%), Ligustrum lucidum(58%), Viola patrinii(58%) extracts were shown to have aldose reductase inhibitory activity. From the radix of Rubia akane, $2-methyl-1,\;3,\;6-trihydroxy-9,\;10-anthraquinone-3-O-(6'-O-acetyl)-{\alpha}-rhamnosyl-(1{\rightarrow}2)-{\beta}-D-glucoside$ was isolated and the $IC_{50}$ of this compound in the aldose reductase inhibition test was about $1.2{\times}10^{-6}M$.

Eight compounds were isolated from the stem bark of Cornus walteri. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidences, the structures of these compounds were identified as gallic acid, (+)-gallocatechin, (+)-catechin, quercetin, quercitrin, rutin, isoquercitrin and hyperoside respectively.

A chemical examination of the aqueous acetone extract of the leaves of Securinega suffruticosa has led to the isolation of nine phenolic compounds. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidences, the structures of these compounds were established to be gallic acid(1), corilagin(2), helioscopinin B(3), geraniin(4), bergenin (5), norbergenin(6), 11-O-galloyl norbergenin(7), gallocatechin(8) and rutin(9).
