In this paper, an index for the evaluation of vehicle intake booming noise is developed through a correlation analysis of objective measurement data and subjective evaluation data. First, intake orifice noise is measured at the wide-open test condition. And then, acoustic transfer function between intake orifice noise and interior noise at the steady state condition is estimated. Simultaneously, subjective evaluation was carried out with a ten-scale score by 8 engineers. Next, the correlation analysis between the psycho-acoustic parameters derived from the measured data and the subjective evaluation is performed. The most critical factor was determined and the corresponding index for the intake booming noise is obtained from the multiple factor regression method. At last, the effectiveness of the proposed index is validated.

This paper introduces the robust design of an intake system using transmission loss and the frequency weighting function. First, transmission loss is measured to evaluate the performance of the noise reduction for the intake system. The robust design parameters of the intake system are extracted by adapting a cost function with the Taguchi method. Subsequently, the frequency weighting function is developed by the subjective evaluation in which 6 special engineers were participated. Finally, the comparison between the proposed frequency weighted optimal design and unweighted optimal design for the transmission loss as the part is performed. Here, the overall levels of the transmission loss according to the methods are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

This paper presents the general system theory and its applications to the safety analysis method that is a recent trend over the traditional event-driven model. This new model is known as STAMP(Systems Theory Accident Modeling and Process) proposed by Nancy G. Leveson in MIT. The new model has benefits o f systemic approaches concerning the system safety as a whole including the context it is in, its stimulants and outcomes, and its parts as well as the relationships among them in a holistic manner. The method consists of a hierarchical control structure, a process model, and the safety constraints governing the control. This paper demonstrates an example that contrasts the differences between the approaches of STAMP and the traditional safety models.
