갯벌 환경에서 저서미세조류(MPB)가 생산하는 세포외고분자물질(EPS)의 물리적 기능은 잘 알려져 있지만, 일부 생태학적 측면은 아직 연구가 미비하다. 본 연구에서는 서해에 위치한 두 가지 대조적인 조석 환경(거대조차 및 대조차)에서 MPB 생물량(Chl-a), EPS, 규조류 군집, 퇴적물 침식도를 조사하였다. MPB가 대증식하였을 때 두꺼운 생물막이 형성되었으며 Chl-a 및 EPS도 크게 증가하였다. 규조류 속 중 Navicula는 두 지역 모두에서 연중 가장 우점하였다(평균 41%). 대증식 시기에는 생물막이 두꺼워짐에 따라 다른 시기에 비하여 침식도가 54–73% 감소하였다. 이는 대형 Navicula 종(>40 μm)의 풍부도가 증가함에 따라 EPS 생산율이 크게 증가했기 때문으로 예상된다. 종합적으로, 본 연구에서는 시공간적 퇴적물 안정도 차이가 MPB의 생태적 변화와 유의한 연관이 있음을 설명하고 서해의 전형적인 갯벌에서 “퇴적물 안정제” 역할을 하는 주요 규조류 속을 확인하였다. The physical functions of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) produced by microphytobenthos (MPB) in tidal flat system are well documented, but some ecological aspects remain unknown. We investigated MPB biomass (Chl-a), EPS, diatom assemblages, and erodibility in two contrasting tidal environments (megatidal and macrotidal flats) in the Yellow Sea. Thick biofilms were observed when MPB bloomed, with high Chl-a and increased EPS concentrations. Among diatom genera, Navicula was the most dominant over the year (mean 41%) in both tidal regimes. Compared with non-bloom periods, erodibility decreased by 54–73% as biofilm thickened during blooms. It was attributed to the elevated abundance of large-sized (>40 μm) Navicula species, which was expected to secrete large amounts of EPS. Overall, we demonstrated spatiotemporal differences of sediment stabilization that significantly related to ecological variations of MPB, and identified the key diatom genus as a “sediment stabilizer” in the typical tidal flats of the Yellow Sea.
도인(桃仁), 소목(蘇木)이 Endotoxin으로 유발(誘發)된 어혈병태(瘀血病態)모델에 미치는 영향(影響)

Objective : This experimental study was carried out to investigate the effects of Persicae Semen(PS) and Caesalpiniae Lignum(CL) on the intravascular coagulation which is considered as thrombosis. Methods : Rats were pretreated orally with PS and CL extracts(PS: 8.45mg/100g, CL: 4.4mg/100g), and 1 hour later, to induce thrombosis, were given an endotoxin(0.01mg/100g) injection into the caudal vein. After 4hours we collected blood by cardiac puncture and measured the platelet count, the prothrombin time, the level of fibrinogen and the FDP(fibrinogen degradation product). Results : PS and CL supressed the decrease of the Platelet count and the prolongation of prothrombin time. In these factors, both groups showed significant effect. Both groups supressed the decrease of the fibrinogen level and the increase of the FDP level. But, only the PS group showed a significant effect on the fibrinogen level, and only the Cle CL group showed a significant effect on FDP level. Conclusions : PS had significant effects on the platelet count, the prothrombin time, and the FDP level. CL had significant effects on the platelet count, the prothrombin time, and the fibrinogen level. Therefore, PerSicae Semen and Caesalpiniae Lignum seem to be applicable to treating the diseases related to thrombosis.
가미사칠탕(加味四七湯)이 구속 Stress 생쥐의 뇌 부위별 Serotonin 함량에 미치는 영향

Background and Objectives ; This experimental study was conducted to evaluate an anti-stress effect of Gamisachi-tang(加味四七湯) on mice immobilized by stress. Methods : The experimental animals were immobilized by stress for 15 minutes, and administered 9mg/20g or 18mg/20g of Gamisachi-tang(加味四七湯) extract for seven days before they got stressed. The serotonin contents in the frontal cortex, hypothalamus, corpus striatum, hippocampus were measured by HPLC method in rat brain. Results : In frontal cortex, serotonin contents significantly decreased in both sample A and B group compared to the controlled group. In the hypothalamus, serotonin contents increased in both sample A and B group compared to the controlled group. In the corpus striatum, serotonin contents significantly increased in both sample A and B group compared to the controlled group. In the hippocamous, serotonin contents significantly increased in both sample A and B group compared to the controlled group. Conclusions : According to the above results, Gamisachi-tang(加味四七湯) had a significant impact on the changes in serotonin contents, which occurred in a separated part of mouse brain caused by stress.
인삼(人蔘)이 Cyclosporin A로 유발(誘發)된 백서(白鼠)의 신손상(腎損傷)에 미치는 영향(影響)

Purpose : This study is to find out the Ginseng Radix extract on rats nephrotoxicity when the rates were induced by Cs A. Methods : The experimental animals were divided into 3 groups and treated as follows: nothing was given to Sample A, Sample B was given normal saline after an I.V. injection of Cs A, and Sample C was given Ginseng Radix extract after a Cs A injection. The groups were observed for 14 days. After the prescription of the medicines, the following levels were tested: serum BUN, creatinine, total protein, sodium, potassium, and chloride ions. Results : 1. Changes in serum level. The levels of GPT, GOT, and BUN were significantly reduced in the experimental group when compared with those of the control group. The total protein level showed significant elevation when compared with those of the control group. The chloride level in the serum in the sample group was insignificantly reduced. The creatinine level was insignificantly increased. The Potassium level decreased, mildly. The Sodium and The Potassium levels in the serum in the sample group showed insignificantly lower levels than those of the control group. 2. Changes in the urine level. Urine specific gravity showed a significant increase, on the 14th day, in the experimental group when compared with that of the control group. The urinary ceatinine levels showed and insignificant increase, followed by an insignificant decrease. Conclusion : It can be inferred that Ginseng Radix may improve nephrotoxicity and hepatoxicity in rats when induced by Cyclosporin A.
