The purpose of this thesis is to re-examine Graham Greene`s The Quiet American from the perspective of Post-colonialism. This thesis will address West`s imperialism over the East, racism against orientals and sexism which produces another relationship of domination and subordination between men and women. In particular, this thesis discusses imperialism in the context of sexism in that the colonized East is analogous to the passive and inferior position of women in relation to the dominance of Western men over women and of Western men over the East. The Quiet American illustrates the binary opposition of ``West`` and ``non-West`` which establishes the Western subject as central and the indigene as Other. This view is illustrated in two specific ways: from the depiction of an imaginary world called ``Greeneland`` and from the depiction of indigenous people of Viet Nam along with ``Third Force`` which will undermine colonialism, destroy communism and liberate Viet Nam. The novel also captures and represents problems and conflicts of race, class and gender. Re-examining The Quiet American from the post-colonial perspective illuminates Greene`s technique of revealing the imperialistic mentality. (Kyungnam College of Information & Technology)

Global consumption of aspheric lens will expand rapidly due to golbal transformation of the electronics based industry to optics based mechatronics. Especially, F-Theta lens is one of important parts in Laser Scanning Unit(LSU) because it affects the optical performance of LSU dominantly. Non axisymmetric machine based processing techologies are required to obtain high accuracy in utlra-precision aspheric core, the most important component in plastic injection molded F-Theta lens assembly. In this study, the core with non-axisymmetric aspheric shape which is used to emit the F-Theta lens was processed using the ultra precision processing technology and the shape accuracy of the core was measured. And the results there of were evaluated and compared with the emitted shape accuracy of F-Theta lens.

In recent years, the demands of the aspheric glass lenses increase since it is difficult to obtain the desirable performance in the plastic lens. Glass lens is manufactured by the forming with high precision mold core. This paper presents the analysis of optimal grinding condition of tungsten carbide(WC, Co0.5%) using design of experiments(DOE). The process parameters are turbin spindle, work spindle, feedrate and depth of cut. The experiments results are evaluated by MINITAB software.

Recently, aspheric glass lens molding core is fabricated with tungsten carbide(WC). If molding core is fabricated with silicon carbide(SiC), SiC coating process, which must be carried out before the Diamond-Like Carbon(DLC) coating can be eliminated and thus, manufacturing time and cost can be reduced. Diamond Like Carbon(DLC) is being researched in various fields because of its high hardness, high elasticity, high durability, and chemical stability and is used extensively in several industrial fields. Especially, the DLC coating of the molding core surface used in the fabrication of a glass lens is an important technical field, which affects the improvement of the demolding performance between the lens and molding core during the molding process and the molding core lifetime. Because SiC is a material of high hardness and high brittleness, it can crack or chip during grinding. It is, however, widely used in many fields because of its superior mechanical properties. In this paper, the grinding condition for silicon carbide(SiC) was developed under the grinding condition of tungsten carbide. A silicon carbide molding core was fabricated under this grinding condition. The measurement results of the molding core were as follows: PV of 0.259 ㎛(apheric surface) and 0.094 ㎛(plane surface), Ra of 5.3 ㎚(aspheric surface) and 5.5 ㎚(plane surface). The fabricated aspheric glass lens was used 5 mega pixel, 4 optical zoom camera phone module.

N/A Mechanical properties of (10%Al₂O₃·SiO₂+5%Ni)/Al hybrid composites fabricated by the reaction squeeze casting were compared with those of (15%Al₂O₃·SiO₂)/Al composites. Al-Ni intertmetallic compounds (10-20㎛) formed by the reaction between nickel powder and molten aluminum were uniformly distributed in the Al matrix. These intermetallic compounds were identified as Al₃Ni using X-ray diffraction analysis and they resulted in beneficial effects on room and high temperature strength and wear resistance. Microhardness values of (10%Al₂O₃·SiO₂+5%Ni)/Al hybrid composite were greater by about 100Hv than those of (15%Al₂O₃·SiO₂)/Al composite. Wear resistance of (10%Al₂O₃·SiO₂+5%Ni)/Al hybrid composites was superior to that of (15%Al₂O₃·SiO₂)/Al composites regardless of the applied load. While tensile and yield strength of (10Al₂O₃·SiO₂+5%Ni)/Al hybrid composites were greater at room temperature and 300℃, strength drop at high temperature was much smaller in hybrid composites.
성형용 초경합금(WC) 코어면의 Re-Ir 코팅이 형상정도와 표면조도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

Aspheric glass lens have recently been used in camera phone module because they are more effective than spherical ones. In this paper, the grinding condition of the tungsten carbide molding core has been found after applying DOE to the development of the aspheric glass lens for the 3 Megapixel and 2.5x camera-phone module. Also, the ultra precision grinding process was investigated under this condition by experiment. Re-Ir coating was applied on the ground surface of the tungsten carbide molding core. The influence of Re-Ir coating on the form accuracy and surface roughness of molding core was compared and evaluated. The form accuracy and surface roughness of the molding core were improved by application of Re-Ir coating on the surface of the tungsten carbide molding core.
