The design of an efficient scaler to enhance the edge data is one of the most important issues in video signal applications, because the perceptual quality of the processed image is sensitively affected by the degradation of edge data. Various conventional scaling schemes have been proposed to enhance the edge data. In this paper, we propose an efficient scaling algorithm for this purpose. The proposed method is based on the discrete cosine transform-based interpolation filter (DCT-IF) because it outperforms other scaling algorithms in various configurations. The proposed DCT-IF incorporates weighting parameters that are optimized for training data. Simulation results show that the quality of the resized image produced by the proposed DCT-IF is much higher than that of those produced by the conventional schemes, although the proposed DCT-IF is more complex than other conventional scaling algorithms.

In this study, we evaluated the clinical significance of detecting carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) mRNA in the peripheral blood samples of patients with gastric cancer. We analyzed the peripheral blood of 46 patients with gastric cancer who had undergone curative resection. The presence of CEA mRNA was serially monitored using a CEA-specific reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) every 2 months. The clinical recurrence rates according to category were as follows: 100% (3 of 3) in the positive conversion, 0% (0 of 18) in the negative conversion, 50% (3 of 6) in the always-positive, and 10.5% (2 of 19) in the always-negative category. The recurrence rate was 66.7% (6 of 9) in the positive group and 5.4% (2 of 37) in the negative group (P ≤0.00022). Multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that only group variable had a significant effect on clinical recurrence (P = 0.015). We conclude that RT-PCR analysis of CEA mRNA in the peripheral blood seems to be a promising tool for the early detection of micrometastatic circulating tumor cells in gastric carcinoma patients and that it can be useful used to identify patients at risk for recurring.

본 논문에서는 영상처리를 이용해서 물품을 색상별로 분류하는 로봇 개발에 대해 기술한다. 그동안 로봇에서 획득한 영상 데이터를 고성능 host PC에 보내어 처리하고 로봇은 그 결과만을 받아 사용하는 것이 일반적이었으나, 최근에는 embedded CPU의 비약적인 발전에 따라 영상을 로봇 자체에서 영상 처리 하는 것이 점점 더 용이해지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서 기술하는 색상별 물체 분류기 로봇 개발을 통하여 로봇에서의 영상 처리 가능성을 알아보고자 한다.

This study is designed for two purposes. Tfhe first one is to compare the realization and perception of English contrastive focus between Korean learners of English and native speakers of English. The second purpose is to study the phonological and phonetical features of contrastive focus by examining the results of production and perception experiments. English native speakers' results show that the English contrastive accents are generally accompanied by higher peak heights. Tfhe findings agree with the results of Bartels & Kingston (1994). Unlike native speakers of English, Korear speakers seem to be poor at relating the phonetical features of contrastive focus to their actual speech. Korean speakers' results are expecially unsuccessful when the contrast is not distinctly grasped through syntatic structure, or when the function words are contrasted. Furthermore, Korean speakers' utterances tend to have pitch accents on evry content word, whether the word is contrasted or not.

The morphology and taxonomic values of the sperm in male Chlamys (Swiftopecten) swiftii were investigated by transmission electron microscope observations. The morphologies and ultrastructures of the sperm nucleus and the acrosome of this species are the vase type and long cone shape, respectively. Spermatozoa are approximately $45-50{\mu}m$ long including a sperm nucleus (approximately $2.60{\mu}m$ long), an acrosome (about $0.63{\mu}m$ long), and a tail flagellum (approximately $44-47{\mu}m$ in long). The axoneme of the sperm tail shows a 9+2 structure. In this study, the right and left basal rings in the acrosomal vesicle of this species show electron opaque part (region), and also the anterior apex part of the acrosomal vesicle shows electron opaque part (region). These characteristics of the acrosomal vesicle were found in Pectinidae and other several families in subclass Pteriomorphia. The number of mitochondria in the midpiece of the sperm of this species are four, as one of common characteristics appear in most species in Pectinidae in subclass Pteriomorphia. In addition, the satellite fibres are found near the distal centriole of this species, as have been reported in other species of Pectinidae in subclass Pteriomorphia. Accordingly, structutral characteristics which are found in the acrosomal vesicle, four mitochondria in the sperm midpiece and the appearance of the satellite fibers near the distal centriole of C. (S.) swiftii in Pectinidae (subclass Pteriomorphia), can be employed for phylogenetic and taxonomic analyses as taxonomic key or a significant tool.

Spider mites are one of major pests in cultivations of various ornamental plants and also important in plant quarantine service. Due to the very small body size and high similarity within the Genus the identification of species is difficult even at the microscopic observation. To identify 5 major species (Tetranychus cinnabarinus, T. urticae, T. phaselus, T. kanzawai and T. truncatus) in the Genus Tetranychus at the molecular level, we designed 4 species-specific primer sets using nucleotide sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS2) region in the nuclear ribosomal repeat unit. At the PCR diagnosis of extracted genomic DNAs of 5 species using each primer set, specific primers of both T. phaselus and T. truncates were species-specific to their own species samples. However, specific primer set of T. urticae detected T. cinnabarinus as well as T. urticae. Specific primer set of T. kanzawai detected T. truncates as well as T. kanzawai, even though detection intensities were lower in non-target species.
