Selecting the Optimal Hidden Layer of Extreme Learning Machine Using Multiple Kernel Learning

( Wentao Zhao Pan Li ),( Qiang Liu Dan Liu ),( Xinwang Liu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.12

Extreme learning machine (ELM) is emerging as a powerful machine learning method in a variety of application scenarios due to its promising advantages of high accuracy, fast learning speed and easy of implementation. However, how to select the optimal hidden layer of ELM is still an open question in the ELM community. Basically, the number of hidden layer nodes is a sensitive hyperparameter that significantly affects the performance of ELM. To address this challenging problem, we propose to adopt multiple kernel learning (MKL) to design a multi-hidden-layer-kernel ELM (MHLK-ELM). Specifically, we first integrate kernel functions with random feature mapping of ELM to design a hidden-layer-kernel ELM (HLK-ELM), which serves as the base of MHLK-ELM. Then, we utilize the MKL method to propose two versions of MHLK-ELMs, called sparse and non-sparse MHLK-ELMs. Both two types of MHLK-ELMs can effectively find out the optimal linear combination of multiple HLK-ELMs for different classification and regression problems. Experimental results on seven data sets, among which three data sets are relevant to classification and four ones are relevant to regression, demonstrate that the proposed MHLK-ELM achieves superior performance compared with conventional ELM and basic HLK-ELM.

Finite element generalized tooth contact analysis of double circular arc helical gears

        Wentao Qu,Xiongqi Peng,Ning Zhao,Hui Guo 국제구조공학회 2012 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.43 No.4

This paper investigates the load sharing of double circular arc helical gears considering the influence of assembly errors. Based on a load sharing formulae, a three-dimensional finite element tooth contact analysis (TCA) is implemented with commercial software package ANSYS. The finite element grid for the double circular arc gear contact model is automatically generated by using the APDL (ANSYS Parameter Design Language) embedded in ANSYS. The realistic rotation of gears is achieved by using a coupling degree-of-freedom method. Numerical simulations are carried out to exemplify the proposed approach. The distribution of contact stress and bending stress under specific loading conditions are computed and compared with those obtained from Hertz contact theory and empirical formulae to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed load sharing calculation formulae and TCA approach.

      • Experimental study on the axial bearing capacity of built-up cold-formed thin-walled steel multi-limb-section columns

        Wentao Qiao,Yuhuan Wang,Renjie Zhu,Ruifeng Li,Mingshan Zhao 국제구조공학회 2021 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.40 No.6

To solve the shortcomings of single-limb or double-limb cold-formed thin-walled steel column easy to buckling failure and low bearing capacity, a new cross-shaped built-up cold-formed thin-walled steel multi-limb-section is proposed for columns. The structure is composed of several single-limb cold-formed thin-walled steel C-channel sections. The flanges and webs are connected by self-drilling screws. In order to assess the mechanical properties of this built-up multi-limb-section column and the influence of the slenderness ratio on the column behavior, the axial loading tests were carried out. Three kinds of single-limb column and built-up multi-limb-section column with different ratio of slenderness were tested. The deformation process, failure mode and bearing capacity were analyzed. The SC specimens failed with local buckling and distorted buckling, while the MC and LC specimens failed with local buckling and global instability. For the built-up multi-limb-section column, the section combination multiple is 12. Compared to the section combination multiple, the bearing capacity combination multiple is much higher. The SQ specimens’ combination factor is about 1.1, the combination factor of MQ specimens and LQ specimens are about 1.4 and 3.0, respectively. It is concluded that the overall combined-performance and structural efficiency of the specimens is proportional to the combination factor.

Enhanced dielectric and nonohmic properties of SrTiO3-modified CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics

        Zhao Jiangpeng,Sun Li,Cao Ensi,Hao Wentao,Zhang Yongjia,Chen Jianbin,Ju Lin 한국물리학회 2022 Current Applied Physics Vol.36 No.-

Dielectric and nonohmic properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) ceramics can be modified by addition of SrTiO3 (STO) in different molar proportions which were fabricated by a modified sol-gel method. XRD results indicated that all modified ceramics showed mixed phase consisting of both CCTO and STO. SEM images and grain size distribution probability also presented the change of microstructure with the addition of STO. The dielectric loss of the CCTO/0.4STO ceramics sintered at 1000 ◦C can be lower than 0.02 in a wide frequency (1 kHz–10 kHz), especially at 1 kHz, the dielectric loss of this sample is as low as 0.012. Furthermore, excellent nonlinear I–V electrical characteristic (high breakdown voltage to 54.15 kV/cm for CCTO/0.4STO sintered at 1000 ◦C) was observed as well. All the results indicated that the addition of STO does improve the dielectric properties and nonohmic characteristics of CCTO ceramics dramatically.

Phylogenetic and expression analysis of the angiopoietin-like gene family and their role in lipid metabolism in pigs

        Zibin Zheng,Wentao Lyu,Qihua Hong,Hua Yang,Ying Li,Shengjun Zhao,Ying Ren,Yingping Xiao Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2023 Animal Bioscience Vol.36 No.10

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the phylogenetic and expression analysis of the angiopoietin-like (ANGPTL) gene family and their role in lipid metabolism in pigs. Methods: In this study, the amino acid sequence analysis, phylogenetic analysis, and chromosome adjacent gene analysis were performed to identify the ANGPTL gene family in pigs. According to the body weight data from 60 Jinhua pigs, different tissues of 6 pigs with average body weight were used to determine the expression profile of ANGPTL1-8. The ileum, subcutaneous fat, and liver of 8 pigs with distinct fatness were selected to analyze the gene expression of ANGPTL3, ANGPTL4, and ANGPTL8. Results: The sequence length of ANGPTLs in pigs was between 1,186 and 1,991 bp, and the pig ANGPTL family members shared common features with human homologous genes, including the high similarity of the amino acid sequence and chromosome flanking genes. Amino acid sequence analysis showed that ANGPTL1-7 had a highly conserved domain except for ANGPTL8. Phylogenetic analysis showed that each ANGPTL homologous gene shared a common origin. Quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that ANGPTL family members had different expression patterns in different tissues. ANGPTL3 and ANGPTL8 were mainly expressed in the liver, while ANGPTL4 was expressed in many other tissues, such as the intestine and subcutaneous fat. The expression levels of ANGPTL3 in the liver and ANGPTL4 in the liver, intestine and subcutaneous fat of Jinhua pigs with low propensity for adipogenesis were significantly higher than those of high propensity for adipogenesis. Conclusion: These results increase our knowledge about the biological role of the ANGPTL family in this important economic species, it will also help to better understand the role of ANGPTL3, ANGPTL4, and ANGPTL8 in lipid metabolism of pigs, and provide innovative ideas for developing strategies to improve meat quality of pigs.

A Network Load Sensitive Block Placement Strategy of HDFS

( Lingjun Meng ),( Wentao Zhao ),( Haohao Zhao ),( Yang Ding ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.9

This paper investigates and analyzes the default block placement strategy of HDFS. HDFS is a typical representative distributed file system to stream vast amount of data effectively at high bandwidth to user applications. However, the default HDFS block placement policy assumes that all nodes in the cluster are homogeneous, and places blocks with a simple RoundRobin strategy without considering any nodes` resource characteristics, which decreases self-adaptability of the system. The primary contribution of this paper is the proposition of a network load sensitive block placement strategy. We have implemented our algorithm and justify it through extensive simulations and comparison with similar existing studies. The results indicate that our work not only performs much better in the data distribution but also improves write performance more significantly than the others.

Immunogenicity of recombinant Lactobacillus plantarum NC8 expressing goose parvovirus VP2 gene in BALB/c mice

        Yu-Ying Liu,Wentao Yang,Shaohua Shi,Ya-Jie Li,Liang Zhao,Chunwei Shi,Fangyu Zhou,Yanlong Jiang,Jingtao Hu,Wei Gu,Gui-Lian Yang,Chun-feng Wang 대한수의학회 2017 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.18 No.2

Goose parvovirus (GPV) continues to be a threat to goose farms and has significant economic effects on the production of geese. Current commercially available vaccines only rarely prevent GPV infection. In our study, Lactobacillus (L.) plantarum NC8 was selected as a vector to express the VP2 gene of GPV, and recombinant L. plantarum pSIP409-VP2/NC8 was successfully constructed. The molecular weight of the expressed recombinant protein was approximately 70 kDa. Mice were immunized with a 2 × 109 colony-forming unit/200 mL dose of the recombinant L. plantarum strain, and the ratios and numbers of CD11c+, CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+, and interferon gamma- and tumor necrosis factor alpha-expressing spleen lymphocytes in the pSIP409-VP2/NC8 group were higher than those in the control groups. In addition, we assessed the capacity of L. plantarum SIP409-VP2/NC8 to induce secretory IgA production. We conclude that administered pSIP409-VP2/NC8 leads to relatively extensive cellular responses. This study provides information on GPV infection and offers a clear framework of options available for GPV control strategies.

Effect of activated persulfate on the properties of contaminated soil and degradation behavior of PAHs

        Yamin Hong,Xiupeng Yue,Yaping Zhang,Kai Shen,Wentao Jiao,Lei Zhao,Beibei Li 대한환경공학회 2023 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.28 No.3

Sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes have been applied in the remediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) contaminated soil, during which sulfate can be activated in different ways. In this work, effects of four different ways (FeSO4, NaOH, H2O2, and Heat) activated sodium persulfate (PS) on PAHs removal and soil physicochemical properties (pH, organic matter, functional groups, surface morphology, and partial heavy metal elements) were compared, and the influencing factors and mechanism of soil PAHs removal by thermally activated PS were also studied. The results showed that at the dosage of 3% of persulfate, the removal efficiency of PAHs followed the sequences of Heat (91.4%) > FeSO4 (86.6%) > H2O2 (86.2%) > NaOH (72.9%). However, thermal activation decreased the soil pH and organic matter content more significantly than other treatments. The reaction tended to reach equilibrium at 6 h when the dosage of persulfate was 3% and the activation temperature was 60 °C, and the reaction obeyed pseudo-first-order kinetics. Through quenching experiments, it was found that the free radicals playing a dominant role in the oxidation process were sulfate radicals. Compared with pH, liquid to soil (L/S ratio) and the temperature had more significant impacts on the degradation efficiency of PAHs.

Identifying long non-coding RNAs and characterizing their functional roles in swine mammary gland from colostrogenesis to lactogenesis

        Shi Lijun,Zhang Longchao,Wang Ligang,Liu Xin,Gao Hongmei,Hou Xinhua,Zhao Fuping,Yan Hua,Cai Wentao,Wang Lixian 아세아·태평양축산학회 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.6

Objective: This study was conducted to identify the functional long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) for swine lactation by RNA-seq data of mammary gland. Methods: According to the RNA-seq data of swine mammary gland, we screened lncRNAs, performed differential expression analysis, and confirmed the functional lncRNAs for swine lactation by validation of genome wide association study (GWAS) signals, functional annotation and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Results: We totally identified 286 differentially expressed (DE) lncRNAs in mammary gland at different stages from 14 days prior to (-) parturition to day 1 after (+) parturition, and the expressions of most of lncRNAs were strongly changed from day –2 to day +1. Further, the GWAS signals of sow milk ability trait were significantly enriched in DE lncRNAs. Functional annotation revealed that these DE lncRNAs were mainly involved in mammary gland and lactation developing, milk composition metabolism and colostrum function. By performing weighted WGCNA, we identified 7 out of 12 lncRNA-mRNA modules that were highly associated with the mammary gland at day –14, day –2, and day +1, in which, 35 lncRNAs and 319 mRNAs were involved. Conclusion: This study suggested that 18 lncRNAs and their 20 target genes were promising candidates for swine parturition and colostrum occurrence processes. Our research provided new insights into lncRNA profiles and their regulating mechanisms from colostrogenesis to lactogenesis in swine.
