A Study on the Functionality of Halophytes from Coast area of Jeollanam-do

This study was undertaken to improve the perceived value of halophytes and contribute to the activity of the local economy by analyzing the antioxidant activity and mineral content of Suaeda japonica, Tetragonia tetragonoides, and Spergularia marina that grow wild on the mud flats and coastal areas. The total phenolic compound content found in each order is as follows: Suaeda japonica (3.674∼5.989 mg TAE/g dry wt.), Tetragonia tetragonoides (2.515∼4.471 mg TAE/g dry wt.), and Spergularia marina (2.450∼4.067 mg TAE/g dry wt.); DPPH radical scavenging and ABTS cation radical scavenging activities were also recorded in the same order. In the case of minerals, Iron(Fe) was relatively high in Suaeda japonica (960.1∼1,346.7 mg/kg), Manganese(Mn) in Tetragonia tetragonoides (197.1∼574.8 mg/kg), and Zinc(Zn) was relatively high in Spergularia marina (63.19∼216.56 mg/kg). It was confirmed that the mineral content of Suaeda japonica, Tetragonia tetragonoides, and Spergularia marina was significantly higher than that of Chinese cabbage, lettuce, leek, and spinach.

MPTP 독성물질이 도파민성 신경세포에 선택적으로 작용하여 산화성 손상에 의한 신경세포사를 일으키는 것을 이용하여 파킨슨병의 동물모델을 만들고, 이를 통해서 아폼토시스를 비롯한 포사의 기전에 대한 연구 및 너코틴의 신경세포 보호효과 여부를 판정하는 실험을 병행하고자 하였다. 파킨슨꾐의 동물모델을 MPTf 독성 물질을 이용하여 확립하였으며, MPTP(30mgag, i.p.)를 투여한 후 1, 2,3, 4, 5일째 흑질 조직을 채춰하여 tarm로 박걸하여 tyrosine hydroxylase 면역조직화학염색을 수행하여 cell countif우한 결과, control은 57.635ce11s, 1일째 친.OfDells,2일째 57.9±6cells,3일릴 없.3±죠ells, 4일째 49.0츠3cells, 5일째 39.4±Scells료 4, 3일째 뚜렷한 신경세포 수의 감소를 보였다. 신경세포사 기전 규명을 위한 아폼토시스 분걱에서는 벼PTP 투여 후 1, 2, 3, 4, 5일째 조직을 채취하여 Hoechst staining, TUNEL staining을 수곡하였는데 양성 반응을 보인 신경세포는 관찰되지 않아. 아폼토시스로 인한 세포사가 관찰되지 않았다. bIPTP 파킨슨병 동물모델에서 nicotine 보호효과 탐색에 관한 실험은 nicat푸e 0.2mgAg을 5일 퐁안 투여 후 리『fP(30mgag)를 CS7Bt/6 마은스에 복강 내주사로 nicotine과 병용 투여한 후 1, 2, 3, 4, 5일째 뇌를 적출하땄다. 신경세포사가 뚜렷이 관찰되기 시작하는 4, 5일째의 신경세포 수의 감소 정도를 20. 30% 정도 약화시키는 경향을 보였으나, nicotine 보호효과에 대한 추가 실헝이 현재 수행 중에 있다. The cause of Parkinson's disease (PD) is largely unknown. However, free radical toxicit? may plaf a role ip. the degeneration of substantia nigra, which is the Hajorfocus of pathological damages in PD. Recently, a neuroprotective effect of nicotine in PD has been suggested. Therefore, the mechanism of neurodegenerafion and protective potential o( nicotine in PD were investigated in the experimental modeB of Pll using a neurotoxin, C57BL/6mice were administered with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP, 30 mg/kg,j.p.). The degree of neurodegenerafion was determined by immunohistochemical stainiHB oftyrosine hydroxylase (TH). TH-positive cells on nigral sections were found 56.0 ±4, 57.9 ±6,52.315ce11s, 49.0±3cells, and 39,4±Scells at days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, respectively (controls : 57.6±Scells). Hoechst and TUNEL staining showed no evidence of apoptosis. The exandnation on themice co-adrunistered with nicotine(0.2mgAg) and MPTP(30mgag) revealed a tendency ofnicotine protective effects. At days 4 and 5, the degree of TH-positive cells was decreased by20-30%, In corclusiffn, the role of apoptosis was not evidenced in this MPTP modeB of PB.The possible proteccon by nicotine should be elucidated with further studies.
유병기간에 따른 한국인 파킨슨병 환자의 영양소 섭취 상태 및 식사의 질에 관한 연구

Both genetic and environmental factors play important roles in the pathogenesis of Parkinson Disease (PD). The contribution of many environmental factors including dietary factor remains unproven. The purpose the study was to investigate the dietary habits, nutrient intake and dietary quality of Korean PD patients according to the duration of disease. PD patients were recruited from K and S university hospitals from May 2005 to January 2006. This study was carried out after approval by the Institute Review Board (IRB). British Brain Bank criteria was used to diagnose PD. The subjects were classified into 2 groups based on the duration of PD: < 25 months and ≥ 25 months groups. General characteristics, anthropometric measurements, food habits and dietary intakes were investigated. The results of this study were as follows: 1) The mean age of < 25 months group (66.9 ± 8.0 yr) was significantly higher than that of ≥ 25 months group (62.2 ± 8.8 yr) (p < 0.05). No significant differences were found for academic background, occupation, living status and social activity, however, numbers of diseases, exercise and family history of PD were significantly different. 2) Anthropometric measurements were not different between the two groups. 3) The frequency of taking snacks was significantly higher in < 25 months group and the amounts of alcohol consumption were significantly higher in ≥ 25 months group. 4) Daily intakes of most nutrients were very low compared with DRI. 5) The MAR score was significantly lower in < 25 months group (p < 0.05;) however, the scores of DVS, DDS and DQI were not significantly different. As a conclusion an overall nutrient intake and dietary quality of the Parkinson's Disease patients need to be improved regardless of duration of the disease and a well-balanced diet should be emphasized.

담도폐쇄증은 간외 담도의 진행성, 특발성, 섬유 폐쇄성 염증질환으로 신생아기에 담도 폐쇄가 나타나고 소아 간이식의 가장 흔한 적응증이다. 조기에 치료하지 않으면 간경화가 진행되어 2세 이전에 사망하게 된다. 오늘날 Kasai portoenterostomy와 간이식 수술기법의 발달로담도폐쇄증 환자의 90% 이상이 성인기까지 생존한다. 따라서 Kasai portoenterostomy의성공 가능성은 시간이 지날수록 줄어들기 때문에 조기 진단이 매우 중요하다. 이 고찰은 담도폐쇄증의 원인, 분류, 유병률, 임상양상, 치료와 예후를 최신 지견을 중심으로 종합적으로검토하고자 한다.

<P>OBJECTIVE: We aimed to compare the incremental value of FDG PET/CT over CT for the assessment of mediastinal nodal status between patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and those with NSCLC but without IPF. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-two patients with NSCLC and IPF (mean age, 66 years) were matched to 168 patients with NSCLC but without IPF (mean age, 65 years). Patients underwent surgical mediastinal nodal staging after both integrated PET/CT and contrast-enhanced CT scans had been obtained. Histopathologic nodal assessment served as the reference standard. RESULTS: PET/CT had better specificity (91% [29/32 patients] vs 47% [15/32]; p = 0.0002) and accuracy (83% [35/42] vs 50% [21/42]; p = 0.001) than CT did in patients with IPF. In patients without IPF, PET/CT was better than CT alone with regard to sensitivity (62% [26/42] vs 40% [17/42]; p = 0.0067), specificity (96% [121/126] vs 84% [106/126]; p = 0.0002), and accuracy (88% [147/168] vs 73% [123/168]; p < 0.0001). Thus, the incremental accuracy of PET/CT, which was 33% (14/42) for patients with IPF and 14% (24/168) for patients without IPF (p = 0.0041), was mainly the result of improved specificity. CONCLUSION: PET/CT offers significantly increased accuracy versus CT in mediastinal nodal staging in patients with NSCLC and IPF compared with patients with NSCLC but without IPF, mainly because of improved specificity.</P>

We present a case of spontaneous rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma with poor liver function managed by transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE). The patient’s bilirubin level was 2.1 mg/dL, albumin level was 2.4 g/dL, and prothrombin time international normalized ratio was 2.1. In addition, the patient had also developed a large number of ascites. The tumor was supplied by the right renal capsular artery, as observed on angiography. With successful TAE, no hepatic failure occurred. We believe TAE can be a safe and effective treatment option, even in patients with poor liver function, if tumors are supplied only by extrahepatic collateral vessels. (J Liver Cancer 2019;19:59-63)
Refeeding Syndrome as a Possible Cause of Very Early Mortality in Acute Pancreatitis

Background/Aims: Refeeding syndrome (RFS) is a fatal clinical complication that can occur as a result of fluid and electrolyte shifts during early nutritional rehabilitation for malnourished patients. This study was conducted to determine the clinical implications of RFS in patients with acute pancreatitis (AP). Methods: Between 2006 and 2016, AP patients with very early mortality were retrospectively enrolled from three university hospitals. Results: Among 3,206 patients with AP, 44 patients died within 3 days after diagnosis. The median age was 52.5 years (range, 27 to 92 years), male-to-female ratio was 3:1, and median duration from admission to death was 33 hours (range, 5 to 72 hours). The etiology of AP was alcohol abuse in 32 patients, gallstones in five patients, and hypertriglyceridemia in two patients. Ranson score, bedside index for severity of AP, and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation-II were valuable for predicting very early mortality (median, [range]; 5 [1 to 8], 3 [0 to 5], and 19 [4 to 45]). RFS was diagnosed in nine patients who died of septic shock (n=5), cardiogenic shock (n=2), or cardiac arrhythmia (n=2). In addition, patients with RFS had significant hypophosphatemia compared to non-RFS patients (2.6 mg/dL [1.3 to 5.1] vs 5.8 mg/dL [0.8 to 15.5]; p=0.001). The early AP-related mortality rate within 3 days was approximately 1.4%, and RFS occurred in 20.5% of these patients following sudden nutritional support. Conclusions: The findings of current study emphasize that clinicians should be aware of the possibility of RFS in malnourished AP patients with electrolyte imbalances.
