Background/AimsNon-celiac gluten sensitivity is characterized by intestinal and extra intestinal symptoms associated with the consumption of gluten-containing food. Since biomarkers for non-celiac gluten sensitivity are lacking, its prevalence is estimated based on self-reported symptoms. However, no data exist on self-reported non-celiac gluten sensitivity in the Korean population. Thus, we aim to investigate the prevalence of self-reported non-celiac gluten sensitivity in the Korean population and to determine its demographic and clinical characteristics. MethodsThis study surveyed Korean participants aged 18-80 years who visited gastroenterology outpatient clinics at 9 tertiary hospitals in South Korea from January 2016 to February 2017. They were questioned regarding symptoms related to gluten ingestion: degree of discomfort (visual analog scale score), frequency, time of symptom onset, and duration. Abdominal discomfort caused by 11 different kinds of gluten-containing Korean food items was investigated. ResultsMore non-celiac gluten sensitivity self-reporters were identified among those with irritable bowel syndrome (33.6%) than among controls (5.8%). Major gastrointestinal symptoms included bloating (75.0%), abdominal discomfort (71.3%), and belching (45.0%). Common extra-intestinal symptoms included fatigue (20.0%) and headache (13.7%). More than half of those who self-reported non-celiac gluten sensitivity (66.3%) developed symptoms within 1 hour of food ingestion, and symptoms were localized in the upper abdomen (37.5%) and entire abdomen (30.0%). ConclusionOur findings suggest that if there are gluten-related symptoms in irritable bowel syndrome, the possibility of accompanying non-celiac gluten sensitivity should be considered.
New Methods of Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The potential disadvantages of traditional center-based pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) include the availability of transportation system, limited access to PR services, and the difficulty of maintaining long-term adherence. The emergence of new methods of PR can complement traditional PR and provide a greater personalization of programs, making PR more accessible and acceptable to patients with chronic respiratory diseases. COVID-19 pandemic has greatly prompted a rapid transition to home-based or telerehabilitation. It has become more important than ever in this COVID-19 era to exploit digital technologies. The essential components of PR, however, should be delivered in these new models. Hybrid models combining in-person and virtual exercise training can be optimized to enhance the effect of PR while decreasing the risk of contagious infection. In this lecture, evidence-based benefits of telerehabilitation and home-based models using digital technologies will be reviewed and how they can be incorporated into clinical practice will be discussed. The highly advanced information technology and fast network in South Korea can be harnessed to have the new models of PR adopted rapidly.

본 연구는 도심지 경관용으로 식재되는 초화류의 일조부족에 따른 관상성의 차이를 평가하기 위하여 수행하였다. 생장 특성에 따라 수직형, 부채꼴형, 반구형 식물 6종을 대상으로 7개월간의 차광처리 후 생장 특성을 조사하였다. 이 후 각 생장 유형에 따라 형태, 밀도, 색상 등의 관상 특성을 표현할 수 있는 산출식을 도출하였다. 차광처리 전, 후 식물 생육을 측정 한 후 산출식에 따라 관상가치를 평가한 결과 가우라는 자생 지 환경에서의 관상가치를 5점으로 하였을 때 50% 차광에서 0.66점 낮았고, 돌단풍은 80%에서 0.99점 부족한 관상성을 나타냈다. 다양한 환경조건에서 식물들의 생장 패턴을 유형화하는 등의 지속적인 경관식물의 가치 정량화에 대한 후속연구를 통해 도심지 녹지의 질을 높이는데 다양한 식물이 활용될 수 있게 함으로써 관상식물의 부가가치 향상을 기대할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다. With the aim of evaluating the ornamental quality of herbaceous flowering plants planted to improve the landscape in urban areas, this study established evaluation standards based on their growth and ornamental characteristics, measured differences in their growth under different environmental conditions and calculated their score based on the standards. Herbaceous flowering plants were divided, based on their growth characteristics, into four types - vertical, fan-shaped, semi-spherical and covering types. Measurement items that can express the ornamental characteristics of each plant such as shape, density and color were selected and an equation for calculation was obtained. Three species of each type were selected and changes in their ornamental characteristics under different shading conditions were measured for 7 months. The growth status of plants before and after treating shading was measured and their ornamental value was evaluated using the obtained equation. When the score of the ornamental value of Gaura lindheimeri in its natural habitat is 5points, its ornamental value in the 50% shading environment increased by 2.53 points, and that of Physostegia virginiana in the 80% shading environment decreased by 2.46 points. As such, the evaluation of the quality of green spaces based on the quantified ornamental value of plants is expected to be utilized in differentiating the value of green spaces in different urban spaces.

Milking center wastewater (MCW) has a relatively low ratio of carbon to nitrogen (C/N ratio), which should be separately managed from livestock manure due to the negative impacts of manure nutrients and harmful effects on down-stream in the livestock manure process with respect to the microbial growth. Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) is linked to inhibition of the second nitrification and reduces around 40% of the carbonaceous energy available for denitrification. Thus, this study was conducted to find the optimal operational conditions for the treatment of MCW using an attached-growth biofilm reactor; i.e., nitrogen loading rate (NLR) of 0.14, 0.28, 0.43, and $0.58kg\;m^{-3}\;d^{-1}$ and aeration rate of 0.06, 0.12, and $0.24\;m^3\;h^{-1}$ were evaluated and the comparison of air-diffuser position between one-third and bottom of the reactor was conducted. Four sand packed-bed reactors with the effective volume of 2.5 L were prepared and initially an air-diffuser was placed at one third from the bottom of the reactor. After the adaptation period of 2 weeks, SND was observed at all four reactors and the optimal NLR of $0.45kg\;m^{-3}\;d^{-1}$ was found as a threshold value to obtain higher nitrogen removal efficiency. Dissolved oxygen (DO) as one of key operational conditions was measured during the experiment and the reactor with an aeration rate of $0.12\;m^3\;h^{-1}$ showed the best performance of $NH_4-N$ removal and the higher total nitrogen removal efficiency through SND with appropriate DO level of ${\sim}0.5\;mg\;DO\;L^{-1}$. The air-diffuser position at one third from the bottom of the reactor resulted in better nitrogen removal than at the bottom position. Consequently, nitrogen in MCW with a low C/N ratio of 2.15 was successfully removed without the addition of external carbon sources.

In spite of importance of safety issues in community sport, little concerns have been paid to the sport safety policy. Governing bodies and individuals involved with the facility management have a responsibility to manage the risks at acceptable levels. For sports injury prevention interventions, the safety policy of sport facilities should be made to provide a structured framework which can be implemented at community sport. Hence, the current study is to identify the safety issues and to generate the policies that assist to conduct the systematic safety management at sports facilities. For this, the current study analyzed two cases from Japan and Germany. The study reviewed multiple pieces of literature including journal publications, political reports, and media coverage. Through review, the study analyzed the organizational structure, legal systems, and political stance of the safety management of sport facilities in Japan and Germany. The results proposed the following issues. First, law needs to be enacted to establish the control tower where has a responsibility to develop the safety manual and system. Second, local organizations need to be established to educate individuals working in sport facilities and inspect the facilities. Further political issues were discussed for safety management in Korea sport facilities.
