      • AVATAR AND SELF-CONCEPT IN THE ERA OF METAVERSE

        There are a lot of brand experience in Metaverse. For example, we can participate in Samsung Galaxy Fan party, UC Berkeley graduation class, and even Ralph Lauren store in Metaverse. When the consumers experience such events in Metaverse, they have to use their avatar by making a user name. They have the option of using either their real or fictional name in Metaverse. There are two types of avatar in Metaverse. First, they can use actual self-avatar by using their real name. Second, they can create totally new avatars using made up name. The name is one of the symbols of self. Therefore, we can easily predict that consumer experience with avatar will affect the consumer perception differently. Which type of avatar will then enhance the brand engagement? Results show that the consumer experience with avatars affected brand attitudes differently. Also, the consumer's experience with avatars based on their actual images in the Metaverse affected the positive brand attitude. This study suggests that Metaverse avatars can also let people interact with themselves and with each other in parasocial ways. This study examines the role of avatar in virtual world; consumers experience with avatar can provide useful implications in terms of digital transformation.

        영웅적 유명인에 대한 애착이 기업진정성과 소비자 삶의 질에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        대중은 영웅 및 유명인과 같은 휴먼 브랜드에 대한 큰 관심, 사랑, 나아가 존중감까지 표현하기도 한다. 이러한 소비 문화를 반영하듯, 휴먼브랜드는 사람들의 소비 행동뿐만 아니라 여러 가지 방식으로 그들의 삶에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 특히 영웅적 유명인들은 소비자의 가치관과 삶의 태도에도 영향을 끼친다. 이렇게 휴먼브랜드의 역할이 소비문화에서 큰 비중을 차지함에 따라 소비자들이 그들에게 형성하는 애착의 영향력에 대한 연구가 요구된다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 휴먼브랜드에 대한, 특히 영웅적 휴먼브랜드에 대한 소비자들의 애착이 그들이 광고하는 브랜드의 기업 진정성 및 소비자 삶의 질에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 살펴본다. 특히, 영웅적 유명인을 일반 유명인과 비교하여, 이들에 대한 애착이 기업진정성과 소비자의 삶의 질에 미치는 영향에 대한 차이 검증에 중점을 두었다. 연구결과, 브랜드 성과 측면에서, 영웅적 유명인에 대한 애착은 일반 유명인 애착보다 기업의 진정성에 더 강한 긍정적 영향을 끼치고, 삶의 질 측면에서, 영웅적 유명인에 대한 애착은 일반 유명인에 대한 애착보다 자아효능감에 더 강한 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 휴먼브랜드 애착의 결과로서 브랜드 성과와 소비자의 삶의 질을 통합적으로 살펴봄으로써 소비 문화에서 영웅적 유명인의 역할에 대한 포괄적인 이해와 활용방법을 제공할 것으로 기대된다. The general public shows great attention, love, and respect for human brands, such as heroes and celebrities. Reflecting on such consumption culture, human brands significantly affect not only on people’s consumption behaviors, but also on their life in many ways. As the role of these human brands has become important in consumption culture, people are likely to build strong attachments toward them. The purpose of this study is to address how attachment to human brands affects not only brand performance but also their quality of life. We focus on the different effects of attachment to a hero versus a celebrity on brand performance and quality of life. In the aspect of brand performance, hero attachment has a stronger effect on corporate authenticity than brand supportive behavior, while celebrity attachment has a stronger effect on brand supportive behavior. In the aspect of quality of life, hero attachment has a stronger effect on self-efficacy than stress-relief, while celebrity attachment has a stronger effect on stress-relief. By examining both brand performance and consumer’s quality of life as the outcome of human brand attachment, this research can provide comprehensive understanding on the hero’s role in consumption culture.

      • Diverse Patterns of Perilymphatic Space Enhancement in the Rat Inner Ear after Intratympanic Injection of Two Different Types of Gadolinium: A 9.4-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Study

        <P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Objective:</I></B> To compare the quality of perilymphatic enhancement in the rat inner ear after intratympanic injection of two types of gadolinium with a 9.4-tesla micro-MRI. <B><I>Materials and Methods:</I></B> Gadolinium was injected into the middle ear in 6 Sprague-Dawley rats via the transtympanic route. The left ear was injected with Gd-DO3A-butrol first, and then the right ear was injected with Gd-DOTA. MR images of the inner ear were acquired 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4 h after intratympanic (IT) injection using an Agilent MRI system 9.4T/160/AS. The normalized signal intensity was quantitatively analyzed at the scala vestibuli (SV), scala media, and scala tympani (ST) using a Marosis M-view system. Then the normalized signal intensities (SIs) were compared between the two contrast agents. <B><I>Results:</I></B> For Gd-DO3A-butrol, the SI was as low as 1.0-1.5 throughout 1-4 h at the SV and ST of the basal turn. The maximum SI was 1.5 ± 0.5 at the SV (2 h) and 1.3 ± 0.5 at the ST (2 h). For Gd-DOTA, the 1-hour postinjection SI at the basal turn was 2.5 ± 0.5 at the SV, 1.6 ± 0.3 at the ST, and 1.2 ± 0.3 at the scala media. In the apical turn, the maximum SI was reached after 2.5 h. The maximum SI in the apical turn was 1.8 ± 0.4 at the SV (3.5 h), 1.8 ± 0.4 at the ST (4 h), and 1.4 ± 0.3 at the scala media (4 h). <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> We were able to clearly visualize and separate the ST and SV using IT Gd and 9.4-tesla micro-MRI. We recommend using Gd-DO3A-butrol over Gd-DOTA and to perform the MRI 2.5 h after using IT Gd in the rat inner ear.</P><P>© 2015 S. Karger AG, Basel</P>

      • Development of a Sampling Strategy and Sample Size Calculation to Estimate the Distribution of Mammographic Breast Density in Korean Women

        Mammographic breast density is a known risk factor for breast cancer. To conduct a survey to estimate the distribution of mammographic breast density in Korean women, appropriate sampling strategies for representative and efficient sampling design were evaluated through simulation. Using the target population from the National Cancer Screening Programme (NCSP) for breast cancer in 2009, we verified the distribution estimate by repeating the simulation 1,000 times using stratified random sampling to investigate the distribution of breast density of 1,340,362 women. According to the simulation results, using a sampling design stratifying the nation into three groups (metropolitan, urban, and rural), with a total sample size of 4,000, we estimated the distribution of breast density in Korean women at a level of 0.01% tolerance. Based on the results of our study, a nationwide survey for estimating the distribution of mammographic breast density among Korean women can be conducted efficiently.

        Development and a Pilot Application Process of the Korean Psychological Autopsy Checklist for Adolescents

        Objective The aim of the study was to develop the Korean Psychological Autopsy Checklist for Adolescent (K-PAC-A) and conduct a pilot study. Methods A number of steps were undertaken in the development of the K-PAC-A including literature reviews, consultations, and a pilot study. The Korean psychology autopsy checklist 2.0 (K-PAC 2.0) was carefully reviewed to adopt some domains and questions which can be applied to adolescents. Results In addition to the adoption of some domains and questions from the K-PAC 2.0, some items were developed by considering the risk factors shown in the previous studies and cultural factors including family-based and school-based problems. A pilot study was conducted in collaboration with Eulji hospital, and Suicide and School Mental Health Institute of Hallym University and 5 cases of adolescent suicide victims were recruited. A final version of the K-PAC-A consists of three domains; a bereaved family (informants), a decedent, and psychological assessments. Conclusion An adolescent psychological autopsy study using the K-PAC-A is expected to provide useful evidence for suicide prevention policies and intervention plans for Korean youths in the future.

        RK-270D and E, Oxindole Derivatives from Streptomyces sp. with Anti-Angiogenic Activity

        A chemical investigation of a culture extract from Streptomyces sp. RK85-270 led to the isolation and characterization of two new oxindoles, RK-270D (1) and E (2). The structures of 1 and 2 were determined by analyzing spectroscopic and spectrometric data from 1D and 2D NMR and High-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS) experiments. Compound 1 exhibited anti-angiogenic activities against human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) without cytotoxicity. Results of Western blot analysis revealed that 1 inhibits VEGF-induced angiogenesis in the HUVECs via VEGFR2/ p38 MAPK-mediated pathway.

      • Multi-omics platform assessing toxicity of different types of polystyrene nano-particles

        The toxicity of nano-particles is emerging as a new concern. Despite the increased interest in the risk of nano-plastics, there is no established way to evaluate the effect of nano-plastics to soil organisms by multi-omics approach. In this experiment, a multi-omics platform observing molecular changes in the nano-polystyrene(PS) exposed Caenorhabditis elegans was established. All three different surface types of PS increased the oxidative stress of Caenorhabditis elegans and influenced reproduction and locomotion of them. However, we confirmed that the alteration in metabolome and lipididome of worms varies depending on the type of exposed PS surface. The significant alteration of metabolome was found in PS-N treated group, but few in PS-NH and PS-COOH treated groups. This metabolic disturbance in PS-N treated nematodes is correlated with the transcriptome dysregulation and the expression level of genes related with autophagy and longevity was changed. In conclusion, we developed the multi-omics platform that could prove that PS cause biological disturbance of nematodes. This platform could be applied to the evaluation of soil contamination derived from nano-particles.

        Exciplex hosts for blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes

        The host material of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) has been advanced from a single host to a mixed host for high efficiency and long lifetime. Several types of mixed host have been reported in the literature, but the exciplex host has been popular as the mixed host of OLEDs. The exciplex host has been developed mostly for red and green phosphorescent OLEDs, and has upgraded device performances, but it is difficult to develop the exciplex host for blue phosphorescent OLEDs. Recently, several works demonstrated the potential of the exciplex host for blue phosphorescent OLEDs. In this paper, the exciplex host for blue OLEDs is reviewed, and its prospects are presented.

        Suppression of Azoxymethane-Induced Colorectal Tumors in iNOS<SUP>-/-</SUP> C57BL/6J Mice

        Nitric oxide (NO) is known to be involved in the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer in both rodents and humans. iNOS is responsible for the over production of NO in a variety of parenchymal cells and macrophages. In the present study, we utilized iNOS gene knockout mice to investigate the role of iNOS on chemical-induced colorectal polyposis. Azoxymethane (AOM) at a dose of 10 ㎎/㎏ body weight was administered to male and female iNOS<SUP>-/-</SUP> or iNOS wt C57BL/6J mice once a week for six weeks. The mice were sacrificed at 24 weeks after initiation of experiment and then examined with the incidence and multiplicities of colorectal polyps. The incidence of colorectal tumors were significantly reduced in iNOS gene knockout mice (22.9%), compared to that of control mice (61.4%). The multiplicity in colorectal polyps in the iNOS knockout mice were 0.37±0.77 (n = 35), being significantly less than wild type mice (1.02 ± 1.15, n = 44). The sizes of the polyps in the iNOS gene knockout mice were also decreased. However, according to histopathological observations, most of the adenocarcinomas from iNOS knockout mice were less differentiated compared to those of wild type mice. From the results, iNOS-mediated NO might have a promotive potential in the early stage, but a suppressive effect in the late stage of colorectal carcinogenesis.

        Case Report : Prune-belly syndrome detected by ultrasound in the first trimester and the usefulness of vesicocentesis as a modality of treatment

        Prune-belly syndrome may be related to lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO). LUTO in the early gestational age exacerbates fetal renal function and may require intrauterine intervention. If early developed LUTO causes bladder distension and abdominal musculature deficiency, it will result in prune belly syndrome. Therefore, early detection of the disease and proper treatment before the renal impairment is important. However, there are few literatures concerning the treatment of prune belly syndrome in the first trimester. We report a case of prune belly syndrome diagnosed at 11+6 weeks of gestation and the value of vesicocentesis as a modality of treatment. Ultrasound showed dilated fetal bladder and vesicocentesis was successful in reducing the volume of the bladder. However, the pregnancy was terminated upon request.
