        지역사회에서 형성된 사회적 지지와 근로자의 사회심리적 스트레스간의 관련성

        Objective: This study was performed to examine the relationship between community-based social support and psychosocial distress in workers. Methods: The study subjects were 596 workers recruited from 11 companies in Chungju city. A structured questionnaire was used to assess sociodemographics, health-related behaviors, job characteristics, job stress, work-based social support, community-based social support and level of psychosocial distress. Results: Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that workers with no chronic disease, exercise and sufficient sleep had a higher score of psychosocial distress than those with chronic disease, no exercise, and not enough sleep. Coworker's work-based social support and community-based social support were negatively associated with psychosocial distress. The R square value of total independent variables on psychosocial distress was 0.409, and that of community-based social support on psychosocial distress was 0.052. Conclusion: This study showed that community-based social support served as a protective factor against psychosocial distress in some workers. We recommend the establishment of a worksite stress reduction program in occupational level as well as community-based social support.

        Carbon-based drug delivery carriers for cancer therapy

        In the search to improve anticancer therapies, several drug carriers, including carbon-based nanomaterials have been studied. Both liposomes and polymeric microspheres have been used in anticancer drugs. However, there remains an on-going need for better therapeutic materials that have good drug solubility, an ability to reduce systemic toxicity through specific-tumor targeting, and rapid clearance. In this regard, carbon allotropes such as graphene oxide (GOs), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and nanodiamonds (NDs), have been investigated, as they possess sufficient surface-to-volume ratio, thermal conductivity, rigid structural properties capable of post-chemical modification, and excellent biocompatibility. This review is aimed at exploring these carbon-based nanomaterials for use as multifaceted cancer drug carriers and is intended to demonstrate that GOs, CNTs, and NDs are likely to improve chemotherapeutical strategy for cancers in either a sole or combinational manner.

      • S-277 Prognostic value of echocadiography for CKD patients with HF with reduced EF initiating hemodialysis

        Background: Heart failure (HF) is highly prevalent in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Among the CKD patients initiating hemodialysis, left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction was reported up to 15 %. The aim of this study was to evaluate value of echocardiography to determine adverse cardiac outcomes in CKD patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Methods: In this retrospective study, we surveyed 843 patients with both advanced CKD and HF who were starting hemodialysis in our hospital during the period 2005 - 2015. HFrEF was defined by LVEF ≤ 50 % with symptoms of HF. We inspected echocardiography, comorbidity, medication, laboratory findings in 94 patients with advanced CKD and HFrEF. The primary endpoint was comparison of echocardiographic parameters between hospitalization group and non-hospitaliztion group and secondary endpoints was all cause mortality in between two group. Results: 40 (42 %) patients were hospitalized caused by HF, and 18 (19.1 %) patients were deceased. Before initiation of hemodialysis, LV end-systolic (LVIDs) and end-diastolic diameter (LVIDd) were higher in patients with experience of hospitalization due to HF than patients without hospitalization (LVIDd: 60.5±8.14 mm vs 56.5±7.16, p=0.016) (LVIDs: 46.5±9.2 vs 41.7±8.0, p=0.01). Also There was a difference in relative wall thickness (RWT) between the two groups (0.334±0.073 vs 0.365±0.077, p=0.047) The 4.3-year survival rates of two group were 93.2% and 56.4 respectively by the Kaplan-Meier survival estimation (p=0.005). Conclusions: In CKD with HFrEF, LVIDs, LVIDd and RWT were strong predictors for adverse cardiac outcomes. Identification and measurement of LVIDs, LVIDd, RWT significantly improve risk stratification in high risk population

        고등학생의 소프트웨어 역량 증진 행동 탐구: 프로그래밍 교과의 개별화 수업전략을 중심으로

        본 연구는 고등학생의 소프트웨어 역량을 증진시킬 수 있도록 교육 프로그램을 개발하여 선택과목인 프로그래밍 수업에 적용하였으며, 참여자의 수업 전·후 행동 변화를 통해 교육의 효과를 알아보았다. 교육 프로그램의 효과를 높이기 위해 학습자의 프로그래밍 선행학습과 적성 정도에 따라 4개의 집단으로 구분하여 수업했으며 학습 산출물과 표출 행동을 수집했다. 분석 결과, 수업 전 학습자들의 행동 유형은 ‘개별적인 단순 지식 학습’, ‘수동적인 의무 학습’, ‘불안에 의한 초조함’, ‘의존적 인지 도제 갈망’으로 나타났다가, 수업 후 ‘고난도 과제 도전 의지’, ‘학습 태도 개선 노력’, ‘긴 사고과정의 인내’, ‘독립 학습 의지 상승’, ‘다각적인 문제 접근’, ‘협력적이고 개방적인 태도’로 변화되었다. 따라서 이 교육 프로그램은 학습자들의 행동을 소프트웨어 학습에 효과적이도록 변화시켜 소프트웨어 역량 증진을 도울 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. This study developed an educational program to improve the software competency of high school students and applied it to an optional programming class, and investigated the effect of education through changes in behavior before and after the class. In order to enhance the effectiveness of the educational program, learners were grouped into four classes according to the level of pre-programming and aptitude, and learning outcomes and expression behavior were collected and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the behavioral types of learners before class were "individual simple knowledge learning", "passive compulsory learning", "anxiety caused by anxiety", and "dependent cognitive apprenticeship craving", and after class, "willingness to challenge high-difficulty tasks" and "learning attitude improvement efforts", "patience in the long thinking process", "increase in willingness to learn independently", "multilateral approach to problems", and "cooperative and open attitude" were changed. Therefore, this educational program is expected to help improve software competency by changing learners" behavior to be effective in software learning.

        지역 지배세력의 형성과 변화 : 경상북도 구미시의 사례

        이 연구는 20세기 전통적인 농촌사회에서 대한민국의 대표적 산업도시로 급격하게 변화한 경상북도 구미시 지역에서 정치·경제·사회적 영향력을 지속적으로 행사해 오고 있는 지배세력이 어떤 경로를 거쳐 형성되고 변화해 왔는가를 규명함으로써 지역권력 구조의 실체를 ‘있었던 그대로’ 또는 ‘있는 그대로’ 밝히려는 연구목적 아래 수행되었다. 특이하게도 이 지역에서는 조선시대 이래 현재까지 선산(일선) 김씨, 인동 장씨, 고령 박씨 등의 정치 사회적, 문화적 영향력이 강하게 지속 되어 오고 있다. 지역에 세거해 온 이들 문중은 식민지 시대-미군정-이승만 통치체제- 산업화 체제를 거치는 동안 근대적 신교육을 받았고, 지주로서의 경제적 기반을 활용하여 기업이나 교육기관 등을 설립한 후 이를 활동기반으로 삼아 집단적 연대성을 강화할 수 있었다. 일부는 특정 정치인과의 연계에 의해 지배적 위치로 상승할 수 있었다. 지역에서 권력을 점유한 이들은 점차 각 영역으로 지배범위를 확대해 일종의 ‘지배세력’을 형성할 수 있었다. 이 때문에 그동안 도시화와 산업화 과정을 통해 인구 이동이 급격하였고 실제로 고향에 남아있는 사람이 적어졌음에도 불구하고 이들의 영향력은 사라지지 않고 있으며 ‘지역주의’가 고착화하는 중요한 한 요인으로 작용하기도 한다. This study investigates the formation and changes in ruling powers that continue to exert political, economic, and social influences in Gumi-si, a city in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province in Korea that has developed into one of the country’s leading industrial city from a traditional farming society in the 20th century. It seeks to define the essence of local power structures “as it was” or “as it is”. Interestingly the strong sociopolitical and cultural influences of the Kim family originating from Seonsan (Ilseon), the Jang family originating from Indong, and the Park family originating from Goryeong still persists. These families still maintain and enjoy their sociocultural status and political influence. They receive new, modern education over the periods of the colonial era, the U.S. military government, the regime of former President Rhee Syngman, and the industrialization system. And by using their financial means as landowners, they have also strengthened collective solidarity by founding companies and institutions of education, and using them as their activity base. Some managed to rise to ruling positions by forming connections with particular politicians. After securing authority in the region, they gradually expanded their control into every field. They were able to form a type of “ruling power” since influence linked to them. Therefore, even with a rapid population shift following the process of urbanization and industrialization and a decrease in the number of those who actually remained in their home ground, the influence of local ruling powers carries on, acting as one of the main reasons for solidifying “regionalism.”

      • Complete chloroplast genomes of two Miscanthus species

        The complete chloroplast (cp) genomes of two Miscanthus species, M. sinensis and M. sacchariflorus, were sequenced and investigated for genes, genome size variation, and polymorphisms. There are 154 genes in both cp genomes, consisting of 122 coding genes, 40 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The cp genome contains two inverted repeat (IR) regions, separated by large single copy (LSC) region and small single copy (SSC) region. 112bp indels in M. sinensis and 152bp in M. sacchariflorus were found mainly in LSC and SSC, which are responsible for 40 bp-difference in cp genome size in two species. Likewise, out of 94bp of SNPs, 88bp were found in LSC and SSC regions. Although gene number and sequence structure were quite well conserved, indel distribution and size were different in these two Miscanthus species.

        Reinforcement of the Unfolded Protein Response Mitigates Cytotoxicity Induced by Human Z-Type α1-Antitrypsin

        Deficient human α1-antitrypsin (AAT) variants are involved in pulmonary emphysema and liver cirrhosis. Especially, the Z-type AAT (Z AAT) variant folds very slowly, and thus accumulates protein folding intermediates prone to aggregation in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of hepatocytes. Misfolded proteins accumulated in the ER lead to persistent ER stress and subsequent cell death. In this study, the contribution of unfolded protein response (UPR) in Z AAT-induced cytotoxicity was investigated. Deletions of each UPR element severely hampered growth of Z AAT-overexpressing yeast cells. Overexpression of UPR elements, except kar2, alleviated the slow growth phenotype of Z AAT-overexpressing cells, possibly through augmentation of folding capacity. Furthermore, reinforcement of UPR elements promoted extracellular secretion of Z AAT, which may have mitigated the plasma deficiency of AAT. Our results therefore provide further information on therapeutic strategies to address protein folding diseases.

        Development of wrinkled skin-on-a-chip (WSOC) by cyclic uniaxial stretching

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The skin experiences constant physical stimuli, such as stretching. Exposure to excessive physical stimuli stresses the skin and can accelerate aging. In this study, we applied a method that allowed human fibroblasts and keratinocytes to be perfused with media to form 3D skin equivalents that were then uniaxially 10%-stretched for 12h per day (at either 0.01 or 0.05Hz) for up to 7days to form wrinkled skin-on-a-chip (WSOC). There was more wrinkling seen in skin equivalents under 0.01Hz uniaxial stretching than there was for non-stretched skin equivalents. At 0.05Hz, the stratum corneum almost disappeared from the skin equivalents, indicating that stretching was harmful for the epidermis. At both frequencies, the production of collagen and related proteins in the skin equivalents, such as fibronectin 10 and keratin, decreased more than those in the non-stretched equivalents, indicating that the dermis also suffered from the repeated tensile stress. These results suggest that WSOCs can be used to examine skin aging and as an <I>in vitro</I> tool to evaluate the efficacy of anti-wrinkle cosmetics and medicines.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
