The use of statististical methodologies is steadily increasing for decades in almost every scientific fields. However, many researchers apply statistical methods improperly, and thus it calls for serious attention from the statistical society. This study aims at following three points. First, the general problem related with the use of statistical methodologies is investigated. Second, a check list is developed for systematic review of statistical aspects of academic research papers. Finally, this check list is tested by being applied to two Korean scientic journals ; The Journal of Educational Research and The Korean Journal of Nutrition.

This paper was designed to compute the actual expected output power of the wind wind energy conversion system in Cheju Island. The wind data were measured by the four local weather stations at Cheju, Seogui. Sungsan and Daejung from Oct. 1984 to Sep. 1985. The ideal wind power density was calculated from which the characteristics of the wind speed at 10m from surface were analyzed. Thus, it made it possible to choose the best site in setting up the wind energy conversion system. We estimated the. optimum rated wind speed of the system to fit with the characteristics of the wind speed of each site.

The aim of this paper is to investigate wind speed charateristics based on the wind data of Daejung site as the place of the highest potential energy of wind power in Cheju Island. and to provide optimum design for wind power conversion system being suitable to the wind speed charateristics. The results are as follows 1. Suitable Weibull coefficients, K and C. of wind speed distribution at Daejung site are evaluated. And then the wind speed charateristics are examined and determined. 2. The optimal rated wind speed of which wind power conversion system is suitable to wind speed charateristics is evaluated. 3. Monthly no-generation percentage by the results from calculating optimal starting wind speed and calm is graphed. 4. In the case of varing the system heights from 10m to 70m,optimal rated wind speeds of the system are determined by extrapolating Weibull coefficient, K and C. variations of maximum efficiency and load factor of the system are graphed, depending on the heights.
관절원판 유착을 동반한 악관절 내장증 환자의 수술후 증상의 변화

Purpose: The aim of this study was to find the clinical characteristics of the patients who had temporo-mandibular joint internal derangement(ID) with disc adhesion(adhesion group) compared to only disc displacement without disc adhesion, perforation, hyperemia, and so on(ID group) . Materials and methods: Thirty seven joints were included in adhesion group and 54 joints in ID group of all 174 patients(174 joints) treated surgically and had been checked periodically over 12 months at TMJ clinic of Yongdong Severance Hospital, Yonsei University, between 1992 and 1997. Mouth opening range, pain during mouth opening and biting, headache, neck/shoulder pain and TMJ sound were checked his/her every visit before and after surgery. Results: The maximum mouth opening was improved significantly after postoperative 3 months in two groups(p<0.01), but adhesion group was less improved. Pain during mouth opening was improved significantly over 3 months after surgery in adhesion group(p<0.01), but in ID group 1 month after surgery. Biting pain was improved and maintained it after surgery and not significant difference between two groups. Headache and neck/shoulder pain were much improved after surgery(p<0.01) , but slight relapse was found in adhesion group after 12 months. TMJ sound was more found in adhesion group after 1 month(p<0.05), but after 3 months, no significant difference was found between two groups. Conclusions: The postoperative results of adhesion group were worse than ID group. Therefore, it is considered more carefully to diagnose and treat in cases of internal derangement with adhesion.
골격성 Ⅱ급 부정교합자의 악교정 수술 후 설골의 위치와 상기도 변화에 관한 연구

OSAS(obstructive sleep apnea syndrome) is becoming more and more of importance nowadays. Therefore the study concerning OSAS is very important. Most of the studies which have been reported were comparison of upper airway size and change of skeletal class Ⅰ group and skeletal class Ⅲ group respectively. But, most of the showing OSAS have pharyngeal narrowing combined with more or less distinct maxillary and mandibular deficiency. Therefore the aim of this study is to see posterior airway space and hyoid bone position in patients affected by class Ⅱ malocclusion and treated with orthognathic surgery. we measured the lines between selected upper air way landmarks on lateral cephalometric x-ray films of skeletal class Ⅱ 30 persons who had not been operated yet, were within 2 weeks after operation, were 6 months after operation. And we compared them respectively and analyzed them with pairing t-test, pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows. First of all, skeletal class Ⅱ group was increased in all the level of PAS, especially PAS(MK) and PAS related to hyoid bone(H-phW, H-PhW(Me-H)) was significantly decreased within 6 months after operation but that was larger than preoperation. And then the PAS was increased after mandibular advancement surgery. While there was no significant correlation between PAS and surgical methods, there was statistical significance between PAS and a number of surgical movement. At last, the hyoid bone was advanced within 2 weeks after operation but relapsed within the follow up period. In the end of the study, it was turned out that PAS was always wider without distinction of the region after the operation and that there was significant correlation between the moving volume of hard tissues and the changing quantity of PAS( ; how much PAS was changed according to the moving degree of hard tissues). After this, to be based on the study, I consider that OSAS demands further study and that it is necessary to do more practical applications to the patients.
폐쇄성 수면무호흡증 진단을 위한 두부규격 방사선사진 계측 분석에 의한 한국 성인 정상교합자의 정상치에 관한 연구

Purpose : The lateral cephalometric Korean norms of the skeletal and pharyngeal dimension were analyzed for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS). Materials and Methods : The lateral cephalometric radiographies were taken in male(n=53) and female(n=50), who had a normal profile, class I occlusion, normal ANB (0∼4˚) and normal Wits Appraisal(-4∼0mm). The X-rays were traced by two oral and maxillofacial surgeons twice. The significant differences between male-female and examiners were tested. Results : The angle of mandibular line to Nasion-Sella line was 31.12˚/33.79˚(in male/in female, p=0.0018). The lower Gonion angle was 73.74˚/73.74˚(p=0.9978). The length of the soft palate was 36.93mm/34.35mm(p=0.0002). The pharyngeal airway space was 13.42mm/11.55mm at mandibular plane level(PAS(ML))(p=0.0025). The hyoid was placed inferiorly to mandibular plane 10.18mm/7.72mm(p=0.0051). The results from this study are to be used for the diagnosis of OSAS.

This case report demonstrates an unnecessary endodontic treatment of teeth with florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) due to a misdiagnosis as periapical pathosis and emphasizes the importance of correct diagnosis to avoid unnecessary treatment. A 30-year-old woman was referred to our institution for apicoectomies of the mandibular left canine and both the lateral incisors. The periapical lesions associated with these teeth had failed to resolve after root canal treatment over a 3-year period. Radiographic examinations revealed multiple lesions on the right canine, the second premolar, and both first molars as well as the anterior region of the mandible. Based on clinical, radiographic and histological evaluations, the patient condition was diagnosed as FCOD. The patient has been monitored for 2 years. To avoid unnecessary invasive treatment, accurate diagnosis is essential before treatment is carried out in managing FCOD.
