Pyrolysis system will plat a big role on the resource recovery of wastes without secondary pollution problems comparing usual incineration system. Pyrolysis experiments of municipal solid wastes was conducted and the results are as follows. 1) From tile compression test before the pyrolysis, moisture removal was observed from 70% compression and the variation of the removed moisture amount was detected until 80% compression. Over the 80% compression, there was no change. 2) Non-isothermal pyrolysis reaction constant was found out through the experiment. When the increasing rate of temperature varied from 20 to 40 K/min, the activation energy of cellulose and plastic were 100~160 KJ/mol and 192~239KJ/mo1, respectively. The order of reaction was on the range of 1.2~1.8. As the increasing rate of temperature increased, the activation energy was decreased.
Rowell syndrome in systemic lupus erythematosus patient

Rowell syndrome is the name given to a distinct group of patients with lupus erythematosus who develop erythema multiforme-like lesions and have a characteristic serological picture of lupus erythematosus. We report a 44-year-old female with a history of systemic lupus erythematosus and lupus nephritis for 15 years who presented with annular, erythematous, scaly papules and plaques on her trunk, arms, legs and palms for 2 weeks. Histopathologic examination showed a papillary dermal edema and superficial perivascular and periadnexal lymphocyte infiltration with vacuolar degeneration. In serology, she showed a positive in anti-DNA (161.2) antibodies, anti-Smith (78.1) antibodies and anti-RNP antibodies (>200). C3 level was decreased (79). These findings are most compatible with a diagnosis of Rowell syndrome. Complete clearing of skin lesions was achieved with antihistamines and topical steroid within three weeks.
Two cases of extramammary Paget`s disease of the axilla

Extramammary Paget``s disease (EMPD) is a kind of adenocarcinoma observed mostly in areas with numerous apocrine or eccrine glands, often involving the skin of the genital or perianal regions. However, EMPD of the axilla is very rare with two cases reported in Korean literature. In case 1, a 41-year-old woman presented with a year history of an erythematous plaque on the left axilla Ultrasound imaging showed no abnormal echogenicity without accessory breast tissues. In case 2, a 73-year-old man with a 5-months history of erythematous plaque on his right axillary regions. Both patients denied any associated symptoms. Biopsy specimens showed large vacuolated pagetoid cells of the epidermis with abundant fine granular cytoplasm and nuclear atypia. These findings are most compatible with a diagnosis of EMPD. The patients were treated with a wide surgical excision and no evidences of relapse have been observed so far. Herein we report two cases of EMPD of the axilla.
P118 Efficacy of microneedle patches containing salicylic acid or EGCG on acne vulgaris

It is expected to be effective on acne lesions using a microneedle system coated with a known topical acne medications. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of salicylic acid (SA) and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) containing microneedle patches on facial acne lesions Methods: A prospective, split-face study was performed for 4 weeks. A total twenty adult acne patients were conducted to assess the treatments. The participants applied the different types of patches (SA, EGCG and control) on each quadrant area of the face every other day. Clinical improvement was assessed by lesions counting using photographs, investigator grading analysis score, sebum excretion, erythema index, and patients’ subjective assessment of satisfaction. Results: At week 4, both SA and EGCG containing microneedle patch showed clinical improvement on each assessments. SA had a superior efficacy than EGCG and control patches, especially on lesions counting of non-inflammatory acne lesions which were showed a statistically significant difference. No adverse effects were noticed. Conclusion: Almost none statistically significant difference was seen among SA, EGCG and control microneedle patches, except for non-inflammatory acne lesions. But still SA and EGCG containing microneedle were shown to be clinically more efficacious than controls.
Er:YAG laser treatment of epidermal nevus syndrome

Epidermal nevus syndrome is the association of any type of epidermal nevus with systemic involvement, including various ocular, neurological, skeletal, cardiovascular, or urogenital developmental abnormalities. Although two reports have shown the efficacy of Er:YAG lasers in the treatment, of epidermal nevi, there is no reported case of their efficacy in the treatment of epidermal nevus syndrome. A 55-year-old man had a history of multiple verrucous plaques on his entire body along Blaschko’s lines since birth. The patient had moderate mental retardation and ocular hemangiomas. Based on the clinical findings, epidermal nevus syndrome was diagnosed. He was treated using 2940 nm Er:YAG laser with a 3-5 mm spot size, pulse energy of 800-1000 mJ, fluence of 5.0-11.0 J/cm2. A significant clinical improvement was seen 2 months after one session of laser treatment. There was no relapse at the 12-month follow-up after completion of treatment. We consider that Er:YAG laser ablation is a safe, simple, effective treatment option for extensive cutaneous lesions in epidermal nevus syndrome.
Eruption of lymphocyte recovery after peripheral blood stem cell transplantation

Eruption of lymphocyte recovery creates erythematous macules and papules in patients receiving chemotherapy. The phenomenon usually develops after the chemotherapy-induced nadir of the leukocyte count is attained, and correlates with the time of initial recovery in peripheral lymphocyte numbers. No reported case of eruption of lymphocyte recovery after autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) has been reported in Korea. We treated a 59-year-old patient with a history of acute myeloid leukemia, who developed erythematous macules and patches on his trunk and thigh 1 week after PBSCT. His white cell count was 1.0 x 103/L, his hemoglobin level 11.6 g/dL, and his platelet 26 x 103/L. Histopathologically, apoptotic keratinocytes were evident in the epidermis, and the dermis exhibited perivascular lymphocyte infiltration, without atypia. The skin lesions cleared completely, and spontaneously, within 2 weeks. We thus report an eruption of lymphocyte recovery after PBSCT.

<P>This study evaluated the effect of the combined treatment of intravenous zoledronic acid (ZA, 0.08?mg/kg) and rhBMP-2 (5??g) on osteogenesis in a calvarial defect model of ovariectomized SD rats. New bone formation was evaluated 4 or 8 weeks after calvarial defect implantation using micro-CT and histology. Micro-CT results revealed that the rhBMP-2 group showed significantly higher calvarial defect coverage ratio compared with the ZA?+?rhBMP-2 group at 4 weeks. In addition, bone formation indices were significantly lower in ZA?+?rhBMP-2 group when compared with the rhBMP-2 group after 4 weeks, which indicates a negative effect of ZA on the initial bone formation and the bone quality. At 8 weeks, the negative effect induced by ZA treatment was alleviated as time passed. Histological examination showed similar results to the micro-CT measurements. In conclusion, although ZA treatment lowered the new bone formation induced by rhBMP-2 initially, as time passed, the negative effect was decreased.</P>
