그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 어머니 행동특성이 영아의 행동특성과 애착 안정성에 미치는 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 가정에서 이루어지는 영아와 어머니의 그림책 읽기 상호작용을 토대로 어머니의 행동특성이 영아의 행동특성에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 또한 어머니의 행동특성이 영아의 애착 안정성에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 영아의 행동특성과 애착 안정성간의 관계를 파악하고자 한다.
이를 위해 24～36개월 사이의 만 2세 영아와 어머니 40쌍을 대상으로, 그림책 읽기 상호작용을 관찰하고 애착 안정성을 측정하였다. 자료 수집을 위하여 가정을 개별 방문하여 연구자가 선정한 그림책을 읽게 하고, 어머니와 영아의 그림책 읽기 상호작용의 모든 과정을 비디오카메라로 녹화하였다. 어머니 행동특성과 영아의 행동특성은 Frosch, Cox와 Goldman(2001)의 분석기준을 사용하여 평정하였다. 애착 안정성은 Waters와 Deane(1985)이 제작한 애착 Q-set의 개정판(Waters, 1987)을 이영, 박경자, 나유미(1997)가 번안한 한국판 애착 Q-set를 사용하였다.
그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 어머니 행동특성이 영아의 행동특성과 애착 안정성에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 상관분석과 단계적 중다회귀분석(Stepwise multiple regression analysis)을 실시하였으며, 영아의 행동특성과 애착 안정성간의 관계를 알아보기 위하여 상관분석을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서 어머니들은 다정한/협력적인 행동특성을 많이 보였고, 영아들은 열정적이고 집중력이 높고 잘 순응하며 긍정적 분위기의 행동특성을 많이 보였다.
둘째, 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 어머니 행동특성이 영아의 행동특성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 어머니가 다정한/협력적인 행동을 더 보일수록 영아는 열정적이고 집중력이 높았으며 부정적 분위기는 감소하였다. 어머니가 적대적/방해적인 행동을 덜 보일수록 영아는 집중력이 높고 잘 순응하였으며, 어머니가 정서적 분리의 행동을 덜 보일수록 영아의 긍정적 분위기가 증가하였다.
셋째, 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 어머니 행동특성 중 정서적 분리의 행동이 영아의 애착 안정성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 즉, 어머니가 정서적 분리의 행동을 덜 보일수록 영아의 애착 안정성은 높게 나타났다.
넷째, 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 영아의 열정, 집중력, 순응의 행동특성과 애착 안정성은 관련이 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
본 연구는 만 2세 영아와 어머니의 그림책 읽기 상호작용을 가정에서 직접 관찰한 연구가 드문 실정에서, 영아-어머니 상호작용 시 나타나는 행동의 빈도와 강도를 동시에 고려하여 평가함으로써 어머니 행동특성이 영아의 행동특성에 미치는 영향을 규명하였다. 또한 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 어머니 행동특성이 영아의 애착 안정성에 미치는 영향을 확인하고, 영아의 행동특성과 애착 안정성 간의 상호관련성을 파악하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 본 연구에서 밝혀진 어머니와 영아의 실제적인 상호작용의 정보는 만 2세 영아와 어머니의 효율적인 그림책 읽기 프로그램을 구성하는 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims at examining how maternal behavior characteristics influence infants' behavior characteristics, based on the interaction between mothers and infants when the former reads picturebook to the latter at home. Also, it analyzes how maternal behavior characteristics affect infants' attachment security and by understanding the relationship between infants' characteristics and attachment security.
To do this, this study selected 40 dyads that consist of a infant between 24 and 36 months and its mother, and observed picturebook interaction between mother and infant and the infant's attachment security. To collect the data, researchers visited each individual house and asked the mother to read a picturebook that was selected for this study. Every process of interaction between the mother and the infant was recorded by video camera while the mother read the picturebook to her child. Behavior characteristics both of mother and infant were analyzed by Frosch, Cox and Goldman (2001). Attachment security is assessed by a revised edition of the Attachment Q-set (Waters, 1987) that Waters and Deane (1985) produced, and a Korean version of the Q-set that Lee Young, Park Kyungja and Na Yumi (1997) translated.
To examining how maternal behavior characteristics influence infants' behavior characteristics, when mothers read picturebook to their children, correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis were performed. To analyze the relationship between a child's behavior characteristics and its attachment security, correlation analysis was performed.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, in picturebook interaction, mothers showed warm/supportive behavior characteristics, and children showed high enthusiasm, focused attention, compliance and positive mood.
Second, this study proved that maternal behavior characteristics affect an infant's behavior characteristics in picturebook interaction. That is, the more warm/supportive behavior characteristics the mother showed, the higher enthusiasm and focused attention, and the less negative mood infants showed. The less hostile/intrusive behavior the mother showed, the higher focused attention and compliance the infant showed. The less detachment the mother showed, the more positive mood the infant showed.
Third, among maternal behavior characteristics in picturebook interaction, the mother's detached behavior affects an infant's attachment security. That is, the less detached the mother is the higher attachment security the infant shows.
Fourth, an infant's enthusiasm, focused attention and compliance in picturebook interaction have a close relationship with the infant’s attachment security.
This study examines how maternal behavior characteristics influence infants' behavior characteristics in the picturebook interaction by considering frequency and intensity of behavior since there is not much observational research on interaction of picturebook reading to infants around two years of age by their mothers. This study confirmed that the mother's behavior characteristic in picturebook interaction influences the infant's attachment security and there is a correlation between the infant's behavior characteristics and its attachment security. It is expected that the information that this study demonstrated on actual interaction between mother and infant can provide useful data to build an effective picturebook reading program for two year old infants and their mothers.
