Submanifolds of Constant Scalar Curvature in a Space Form
Zhong Hua Hou KYUNGPOOK UNIVERSITY 1998 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.38 No.1
Let M^(n) be a closed submanifold immersed into a space formM~^(n+p)_ (c) of constant curvature c≥ 0. Denote by R the normalized scalar curvature and by H the mean curvature of M^(n) : Suppose that R is constant and R≥ c. We firstly extend Cheng-Yau's technique to higher codimension cases. Then we study the rigidity problem for M^(n) with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field. We show that, if H satisfies a certain inequality, then M^(n) is totally umbilical or the equaluity holds. We describe all M^(n) that satisfy this equality. We also prove some rigidity theorems of Yano-Ishihara's type and extend the rigidity theorems of H. Li to higher codimension. 0. Introduction

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of biogas slurry application on biomass production and the silage quality of corn. Methods: A field experiment was conducted in which corn was grown using different biogas slurry application rates. The effect of 25% to 500% biogas slurry nitrogen replacement (T1 to T14) on the yield and quality indices of corn were studied by field plot experiments. Results: The results revealed that biogas slurry application improved the stem diameter and relative feed value of corn silage in treatments T13 and T11. Moreover, the fermentation quality of corn silage was improved due to an increase in lactic acid content; in comparison with the chemical synthetic fertilizer (CF) group. The crude protein contents of corn silage had no obvious change with increasing biogas slurry application. However, the forage quality index of acid detergent fiber was decreased (p<0.05) in the T11 group compared with the CF group. In addition, higher (p<0.05) 30 h in vitro dry matter digestibility and 30 h in vitro neutral detergent fiber digestibility were observed in the T11 and T13 groups than in the CF group. Conclusion: Based on these results, it was concluded that the optimum biogas slurry application rate for corn was approximately 350% to 450% biogas slurry nitrogen replacement under the present experimental conditions.

( Li Kun Zhong ),( Xiao Hua Hou ) 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회 (구 대한소화관운동학회) 2012 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.18 No.1
The mechanism of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is still incompletely understood in the world although large amount of investigations have been carried out on it. There are many studies on the pathophysiology of IBS in China, which has huge amount of population suffering from IBS with special ethnicity and culture, including Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. We collected the literatures to show the results and discuss whether there were any differences in the pathophysiologic findings between China and other countries, whether there were any differences among different subtypes and how the pathophysiology correlated with the manifestations of patients. Gene polymorphism, disturbances of gastrointestinal motility, visceral hypersensitivity, intestinal infection and inflammation, psychological disturbances, food hypersensitivity and intolerance, and altered gut microflora were reviewed in this paper. Some conflicting outcomes between China and other countries were noted although most of them were similar. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2012;18:19-33)

Natamycin is a widely used antifungal antibiotic. For natamycin biosynthesis, the gene pimE encodes cholesterol oxidase, which acts as a signalling protein. To confirm the positive effect of the gene pimE on natamycin biosynthesis, an additional copy of the gene pimE was inserted into the genome of Streptomyces gilvosporeus 712 under the control of the ermE* promoter (permE*) using intergeneric conjugation. Overexpression of the target protein engendered 72% and 81% increases in the natamycin production and cell productivity, respectively, compared with the control strain. Further improvement in the antibiotic production was achieved in a 1 L fermenter to 7.0 g/l, which was a 153% improvement after 120 h cultivation. Exconjugants highly expressing pimE and pimM were constructed to investigate the effects of both genes on the increase of natamycin production. However, the co-effect of pimE and pimM did not enhance the antibiotic production obviously, compared with the exconjugants highly expressing pimE only. These results suggest not only a new application of cholesterol oxidase but also a useful strategy to genetically engineer natamycin production.

Purpose: Five members of the zinc finger of the cerebellum (ZIC) family—ZIC1, ZIC2, ZIC3, ZIC4, and ZIC5—have been shown to be involved in various carcinomas. Here, we aimed to explore the clinicopathologic and prognostic roles of ZIC family members in invasive breast cancer patients using immunohistochemical analysis, western blotting analysis, and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Methods: A total of 241 female invasive breast cancer patients who underwent radical mastectomy between 2009 and 2011 were enrolled. ZIC proteins in 241 pairs of breast tumors and corresponding normal tissues were investigated using immunohistochemistry and the clinicopathologic roles of proteins were analyzed using Pearson’s chi-square test. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression analysis were also used to analyze the prognostic value of the ZIC proteins. In addition, 12 pairs of fresh-frozen breast tumors and matched normal tissues were used in the western blotting analysis and RT-qPCR. Results: Only ZIC1 expression in normal tissues was obviously higher than that in tumors (p<0.001). On multivariate analysis, ZIC1 expression (in overall survival analysis: hazard ratio [HR], 0.405, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.233–0.702, p=0.001; in disease-free survival analysis: HR, 0.395, 95% CI, 0.234–0.669, p=0.001) was identified as a prognostic indicator of invasive breast cancer. Conclusion: ZIC1, but not the other proteins, was obviously decreased in breast tumors and associated with clinicopathologic factors. Thus, ZIC1 might be a novel indicator to predict the overall and disease-free survival of invasive breast cancer patients.

Zhang, Xiu-Ling,Dang, Yi-Wu,Li, Ping,Rong, Min-Hua,Hou, Xin-Xi,Luo, Dian-Zhong,Chen, Gang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.24
Background: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) has been reported to be associated with the development of various cancers. However, the role of TRAF6 in lung cancer remains unclear. Objective: To explore the expression and clinicopathological significance of TRAF6 protein in lung cancer tissues. Materials and Methods: Three hundred and sixty-five lung cancer samples and thirty normal lung tissues were constructed into 3 microarrays. The expression of TRAF6 protein was determined using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Furthermore, correlations between the expression of TRAF6 and clinicopathological parameters were investigated. Results: The expression of TRAF6 in total lung cancer tissues (365 cases), as well as in small cell lung cancer (SCLC, 26 cases) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC, 339 cases) was significantly higher compared with that in normal lung tissues. The ROC curve showed that the area under curve of TRAF6 was 0.663 (95%CI 0.570~0.756) for lung cancer. The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of TRAF6 were 52.6% and 80%, respectively. In addition, the expression of TRAF6 was correlated with clinical TNM stage, tumor size and lymph node metastasis in all lung cancers. Consistent correlations were also observed for NSCLCs. Conclusions: TRAF6 might be an oncogene and the expression of TRAF6 protein is related to the progression of lung cancer. Thus, TRAF6 might become a target for diagnosis and gene therapy for lung cancer patients.
Effect of serotonin on the cell viability of the bovine mammary alveolar cell-T (MAC-T) cell line
Xusheng Dong,Chen Liu,Jialin Miao,Xueyan Lin,Yun Wang,Zhong-Hua Wang,Qiuling Hou 한국축산학회 2022 한국축산학회지 Vol.64 No.5
5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), a monoamine, as a local regulator in the mammary gland is achemical signal produced by the mammary epithelium cell. In cows, studies have shown that5-HT is associated with epithelial cell apoptosis during the degenerative phase of the mammarygland. However, studies in other tissues have shown that 5-HT can effectively promotecell viability. Whether 5-HT could have an effect on mammary cell viability in dairy cows isstill unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine: (1) effect of 5-HT on the viability ofbovine mammary epithelial cells and its related signaling pathways, (2) interaction betweenprolactin (PRL) and 5-HT on the cell viability. The bovine mammary alveolar cell-T (MAC-T)were cultured with different concentrations of 5-HT for 12, 24, 48 or 72 hours, and then wereassayed using cell counting kit-8, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and immunobloting. Theresults suggested that 20 μM 5-HT treatment for 12 or 24 h promote cell viability, which wasmainly induced by the activation of 5-HT receptor (5-HTR) 1B and 4, because the increasecaused by 5-HT vanished when 5-HTR 1B and 4 was blocked by SB224289 and SB204070. And protein expression of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), eukaryotic translationelongation factor 2 (eEF2), janus kinase 2 (JAK2) and signal transducer and activator of transcription5 (STAT5) were decreased after blocking 5-HT 1B and 4 receptors. When MAC-Tcells were treated with 5-HT and PRL simultaneously for 24 h, both the cell viability and thelevel of mTOR protein were significantly higher than that cultured with 5-HT or PRL alone. Inconclusion, our study suggested that 5-HT promotes the viability of MAC-T cells by 5-HTR1B and/or 4. Furthermore, there is a reciprocal relationship between PRL and 5-HT.
