        Genetic Effects of Polymorphisms in Myogenic Regulatory Factors on Chicken Muscle Fiber Traits

        The myogenic regulatory factors is a family of transcription factors that play a key role in the development of skeletal muscle fibers, which are the main factors to affect the meat taste and texture. In the present study, we performed candidate gene analysis to identify single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the MyoD, Myf5, MyoG, and Mrf4 genes using polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism in 360 Erlang Mountain Chickens from three different housing systems (cage, pen, and free-range). The general linear model procedure was used to estimate the statistical significance of association between combined genotypes and muscle fiber traits of chickens. Two polymorphisms (g.39928301T>G and g.11579368C>T) were detected in the Mrf4 and MyoD gene, respectively. The diameters of thigh and pectoralis muscle fibers were higher in birds with the combined genotypes of GG-TT and TT-CT (p<0.05). Moreover, the interaction between housing system and combined genotypes has no significant effect on the traits of muscle fiber (p>0.05). Our findings suggest that the combined genotypes of TT-CT and GG-TT might be advantageous for muscle fiber traits, and could be the potential genetic markers for breeding program in Erlang Mountain Chickens.

        Clinical analysis of 117 cases with synchronous multiple primary esophageal squamous cell carcinomas

        Background/Aims: We aimed to study the clinical characteristics, treatment modality, and the prognosis of synchronous multiple primary esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (SMPESCC). Methods: A total of 117 SMPESCC cases were evaluated retrospectively from 2010 to 2015. Results: The most common locations of SMPESCC were mid- and lower thoracic segments (n = 208, 84.9%). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year overall survival rates were 53.8%, 30.8%, and 15.4%, respectively; the median survival time (MST) was 12.5 months. With definitive radiotherapy and surgery, respectively, the MST of stage I/II patients were 34.2 and 26.7 months, of stage III patients were 8.3 and 13.2 months (p = 0.163), and of stage IV patients were and 8 and 12.6 months (p = 0.379). Clinical stage, family history of cancer, and Karnofsky performance status were independent prognostic factors for the whole cohort by Cox multivariate regression analysis (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.859, p < 0.001; HR = 0.579, p = 0.032; and HR = 0.586, p = 0.013). Conclusions: Although the prognosis of SMPESCC is poor, stage I/II patients can achieve long-term survival with aggressive treatment, especially those with a Karnofsky performance score 90 or higher and who have no family history of cancer. Definitive radiotherapy could achieve a similar survival rate to definitive surgery at different clinical stages.

        Phase Stability and Thermo-Physical Properties of Nickel-Aluminum Binary Chemically Disordered Systems via First-Principles Study

        The effect of Al content and crystal structures on ground state, phase stability, elasticity and thermodynamics of Ni1−xAlx(x = 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75) binary chemically disordered systems are investigated using first-principles method in combinationwith quasi-harmonic Debye-Grüneisen model. The special quasirandom structures are applied to model disordered bodycenteredcubic (bcc) and face-centered cubic (fcc) phases. The Gibbs free energy of mixing of equiatomic Ni0.5Al0.5is thelowest. The nonmagnetic fcc structure’ Ni1−xAlx are predicted to be more favorable phases. Disordered Ni1−xAlx are lessstable than ordered L21Ni3Aland B2 NiAl, and L21phase is the most likely to form a nuclear growth. The somewhat differentimpact of Al content on elastic properties has been extracted that the resistance to volume change, shear deformation andelastic deformation of Ni1−xAlx decrease with increasing Al content. For bcc and fcc phases, Ni0.75Al0.25and Ni0.25Al0.75arepredicted to be ductile behavior, while Ni0.5Al0.5exhibit brittleness. The structural, vibrational and electronic contributionsare taken into account to study the thermodynamic properties at finite temperature. The lattice constants a and volumetricthermal expansion coefficient α of Ni1−xAlx systems increase with the increase of Al content. Nevertheless, it is decreasingfor heat capacity Cv and Cvvib. The vibrational entropy Svib of bcc Ni0.25Al0.75is the largest in considered temperature. The α,Cvvib and Svib of disordered Ni1−xAlx are larger than that of ordered Ni3Aland NiAl. Vibrational and electronic entropy arethe dominating at finite temperature stabilization mechanism.

        Design and analysis of cleaning mechanism for an intermittent screw-driven pipeline robot

        For achieving the compact size and large traction force of cleaning robots, this paper presents an intermittent-cleaning robot based on the screw-driven mechanism. The robot has two working modes: Linear reciprocating cleaning (LRC) mode and Spiral reciprocating cleaning (SRC) mode. The working principle, kinematic analysis, traction and driving force calculations for both working modes, were obtained and compared. Furthermore, in order to ensure the working stability, the failure mode analysis was performed. Simulation and experiments were conducted to verify the proposed robotic mechanism. The results show that the proposed intermittent-cleaning robots can effectively complete the cleaning work of the pipeline.

        REVIEW : Inflammatory Bowel Disease-related Colorectal Cancer in the Asia-Pacific Region: Past, Present, and Future

        Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC), and key contributing factors include chronic colonic inflammation and the extent and duration of disease. This increase in risk is more likely to result from chronic inflammation of the colonic mucosa than from any clearly defined genetic predisposition. However, globally, the true magnitude of this risk is debatable, since results from different studies are heterogeneous in terms of geographical and methodological variables. The prevalence of IBD-related CRC in the Asia-Pacific region ranges from 0.3% to 1.8% and a recent study found that the cumulative incidence of IBD-related CRC is comparable to that in Western countries. However, the CRC mortality rate in the Asia-Pacific region is on the rise compared with that in Western countries, and a few Asian countries show particularly rapid upward trends in CRC incidence. Although our understanding of the molecular and clinical basis for IBD-related CRC has improved substantially, our means of prevention, endoscopic surveillance, chemoprevention, and prophylactic surgery remain modest at best. Furthermore, published data on IBD-related CRC in the Asia-Pacific region is lacking, and this review addresses many aspects including epidemiology, natural history, etiopathogenesis, morphology, and biological behaviors of IBD-related CRC and sporadic CRC in the Asia-Pacific region. In this review, we will also discuss the risk factors for CRC in IBD patients, endoscopic technology screening, and surveillance programs and management strategies for IBD-related CRC.         웨이보 인기뉴스에 관한 감정표현에 영향을 미치는 요인 - ‘중국 산시성 린펀시 반점 붕괴 사건’을 중심으로 -

        본 연구는 시나 웨이보(Sina Weibo)에 게재된 ‘산시성 린펀시 반점 붕괴 사건’이라는 인기뉴스(hot news)에 대한 댓글에 나타난 감정표현에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 살펴보았다. 연구결과, 첫째, 성별에 따라 감정표현에 차이가 나타났다. 여성은 남성보다 더 강한 분노, 실망, 슬픔, 비난 감정을 표현하였다. 둘째, 동부지역 이용자들의 감정표현 강도가 중부지역과 서부지역에 비하여 유의하게 높았다. 셋째, 이용자가 댓글에 참여하고 감정표현을 게시한 블로그의 총수량인 웨이보 수가 많을수록 감정표현이 더욱 강하게 나타났다. 넷째, 미인증 이용자는 인증된 이용자보다 실망, 슬픔의 감정표현이 더욱 강하였다. 본 연구는 중국의 온라인 여론형성 과정에서 감정표현의 영향 요인을 살펴봄으로써 서양의 트위터나 페이스북과 같은 소셜네트워크와 비교할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 온라인 뉴스분석에서 빅데이터 분석방법을 사용했다는 점에서도 의의가 있다. This study examined the factors that influence the emotional expression in comments on the hot news about the ‘Restaurant Collapse in Linfen City, Shanxi Province’ published in Sina Weibo.. As a result of the study, first, there were differences in emotional expression according to gender. Women expressed stronger anger, disappointment, sadness, and condemnation than men. Second, the intensity of emotional expression of users in the eastern region was significantly higher than that of users in the central and western region. Third, the greater the number of Weibo, the total number of blogs where users participated in comments and posted emotional expressions, the stronger the emotional expression was. Fourth, unauthenticated users showed stronger emotional expressions of disappointment and sadness than authenticated users. The results of this study present implications for the factors influencing emotional expression on hot news. This study is meaningful in that it can be compared with social networks such as Twitter and Facebook in the West by looking at the factors that influence emotional expression in the process of online public opinion formation in China, and also meaningful in that a big data analysis method was used in online news analysis.

        DC-Link Capacitor Voltage Balanced Modulation Strategy Based on Three-Level Neutral-Point-Clamped Cascaded Rectifiers

        This study proposes a new modulation strategy to deal with unbalanced output voltage that is based on three-levelneutral-point-clamped cascaded rectifiers. The fundament idea is to reallocate the value of the voltage levels generated by each ofthe modules on the basis of space vector pulse width modulation. This proposed modulation strategy can reduce the switchingfrequency while maintaining the mutual-module voltage balance. First, an analysis of unbalanced output voltage is reflected. Then a new modulation strategy is introduced in detail. Internal module capacitor voltages are balanced by the selection ofredundant vectors. Moreover, the voltage balance ability is calculated. Finally, the feasibility of this modulation strategy isverified through experimental results.

        Optimizing the multidimensional aspects of the patient-physician relationship in the management of inflammatory bowel disease

        The patient-physician relationship has a pivotal impact on the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) outcomes. However, there are many challenges in the patient-physician relationship; lag time in diagnosis which results in frustration and an anchoring bias against the treating gastroenterologist, the widespread availability of medical information on the internet has resulted in patients having their own ideas of treatment, which may be incongruent from the treating physicians’ goals resulting in patient physician discordance. Because IBD is an incurable disease, the goal of treatment is to sustain remission. To achieve this, patients may have to go through several lines of treatment. The period of receiving stepping up, top down or even accelerated stepping up medications may result in a lot of frustration and anxiety for the patient and may compromise the patient-physician relationship. IBD patients are also prone to psychological distress that further compromises the patient-physician relationship. Despite numerous published data regarding the medical and surgical treatment options available for IBD, there is a lack of data regarding methods to improve the therapeutic patient-physician relationship. In this review article, we aim to encapsulate the challenges faced in the patient-physician relationship and ways to overcome in for an improved outcome in IBD. (Intest Res 2018;16:509-521)

        We studied the interaction of 3,3',3'',3'''-ethylenetetrakis-4-hydroxycoumarin (EHC) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) in acetate buffer and phosphate buffer with different pH values by UV-vis absorption spectrometry and fluorescence spectrometry respectively. It was found that the pH values of the buffer solutions had an effect on the interaction process. In acetate buffer of pH 4.70, the carbonyl groups in EHC bound to the amino groups in BSA by means of hydrogen bond and van der Waals force, which made the extent of peptide chain in BSA changed. By contrast, in phosphate buffer of pH 7.40, hydrophobic force played a major role in the interaction between EHC and BSA, while the hydrogen bond and van der Waals force were also involved in the interaction. The results of spectrometry indicated that BSA could enhance the fluorescence intensity of EHC by forming a 1:1 EHC-BSA fluorescent complex through static mechanism at pH 4.70 and 7.40 respectively. Furthermore, EHC bound on site 1 in BSA.

        Stochastic PWM methods to inhibit junction temperature rise in IGBT module

        The insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module is a core component of high-power electronic device systems. Since the junction temperature of an IGBT module increases with operation, the junction temperature of the IGBT module is the main cause of failure, which seriously affects the safe and stable operation of systems. To restrain the junction temperature and to improve the reliability of IGBT modules during operation, a new stochastic pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy is proposed. It is deduced that this method can do a good job of restraining the junction temperature of IGBT modules. The effectiveness of this method is verified on an experimental platform of a permanent magnet synchronous motor system. Experimental results show that the stochastic PWM has a good inhibitory effect on the junction temperature of IGBT modules in the same cycle, and that the difference of the most significant inhibition effect is about 3.27 K. The proposed stochastic PWM has practical engineering significance in terms of restraining the junction temperature of IGBT modules.
